Just placed a pretty sizable order through Discogs... nothing was over $6 or under VG+ media condition. Some pretty random stuff, but some stuff I'm pretty excited about, still;
The Orb - AbsOrb: Selections from Orb Live 1993 (EP) Son of Sam and The Good Shepherds - Rich and Famous: Eight Songs of Greed Donna Summer - Love To Love You Baby (never can seem to find this one) Nitzer Ebb - As Is (EP) Nitzer Ebb - Hearts and Minds (12" maxi single) Cabaret Voltaire - Yashar (12") Cabaret Voltaire - Code Cabaret Voltaire - The Drain Train (double 12" single) Cabaret Voltaire - Drinking Gasoline (double EP)
I had to stop myself, because I was dangerously close to buying some more expensive records I've been wanting for a while as well (Bjork - Post, Meat Beat Manifesto - Satyricon, Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 1, Cabaret Voltaire - 2x45).
Bishop how often do you purge records? Do you have a budget you stick to for all these pickups?
I promised I'm not asking in judgement. I am genuinely jealous you can buy new stuff seemingly every week.
I never purge my records... I'll re-sell a few here and there that I'm either unsatisfied with or just flat out don't like (I blind buy a good bit). I really buy for my own collection with the possibility to resell in the future on rare occasion. I'm just fortunate that I have 5 or 6 really good places to get records around here, and I'm really cautious on what I'm paying (I do my research on Discogs and eBay to see if I'm close to overpaying). I try to get my records for less than going rate, and I'd say 90% of the time I'm successful, and then usually at a good point underpaying. For instance, for what I just posted, I paid under $25. Knowing people who can cut me good deals also helps.
I'm impulsive when it comes to buying something I find at a good deal, so I end up buying more than I really want to. Last year, I was really bad... I had an inheritance from my grandmother that allowed me to splurge on new records willy nilly for a little bit. I don't even want to calculate how much I spent in the first half of last year alone. However, I'm a comic book collector as well and end up making some good cash selling/trading to people around town. If you know how, where, and what to look for, comic flipping is stupid profitable. I don't really go to concerts that much anymore, nor am I going out to bars regularly as I did 5-10 years ago, so I have more extra cash to spend on my hobbies. But really, the best thing for me is having so many good places around me to buy records (2nd and Charles being literally a one minute drive down the road helps).

Jesus that's a great deal. So you're mostly crate digging at places in your neighborhood?
Not in the sense of going to yard/garage sales, and not a whole lot of flea market visits. But, since there are all these great places around here for vinyl, competitive pricing is already in place. And then there are store sales, loyalty discounts, promotional coupons (in the case of 2nC, at least), and such a volume of stuff comes through here in Columbia, it's inevitable that some great deals slip through.

Bought an something for the first time on Discogs and they sent the wrong item. It's been two days since I messaged the seller and I've had no response, what should I do?

If you paid with Paypal or credit card you should file a complaint with them. They'll help get your money back.
And leave a bad review so this doesn't happen to other people.
I've never even heard that before... s/t and Deceit get pretty steady rotation on my record player, though.
I spent a bit of time searching for either the self-titled or Deceit but couldn't find a copy of either before the signing. Reckless Records had quite a few copies of this one, a compilation of their John Peel sessions called Made Available (and I only found out now that it was a collection of John Peel sessions - I was told by the vendor it was just a regular compilation), and Repeat/Metal. Given that a lot of vendors at Pitchfork's record fair had lots of other copies of records by other artists playing the fest (everyone seemed to have at least three copies of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill), it was kind of surprising no one had the originals.
That does seem kind of odd... maybe they just sold before you could get to them. However, I've got the Modern Classics Recordings reissues from a couple of years ago, and if you're just looking for copies to play, they sound pretty great to me and should be pretty affordable.
