If people sat down, a large number of people would have been stuck outside the tent and more subject to sound bleeding from other stages/tents.
If it were an amphitheatre with seats, then people can sit down. Even the people in the front would have to scoot back several feet so that the rail didn't obstruct their sitting down view.
Plus I think a band would rather see people standing up than sitting down for them.
Maybe it's just me, but I thought the reason a lot of people were standing was that they shared my distaste for sitting in mud.
I just made up for my Roo mistake and picked up a pair for their show @ Red Rocks in September!
holy crap thats going to be spectacular.
I'm having a hard time imagining how it WON'T be!
Plus, that time of year up at Red Rocks seems to be good for a clear, bright white, moon, sparkly skyline, and cold breezes shooting through the venue. My only gripe, is that buying them through the presale didn't allow you to see where your reserved seats are going to be!

that is one hell of a good way to make up for it!!! I had to debate whether or not I should buy the red rocks tix, but I decided to just see them here in mn. I am so jealous though, that would have been a GREAT first show at red rocks for me. By the way, was trying to get tickets from the presale a nightmare for you too? it must have taken me 50 minutes to finally complete the sale, and it sold out minutes after i got mine! Wish i knew where the seats are, but i'm sure they'll be good!

This was also my favorite show of the weekend... "The stuff they're playing in those other tents? It's bullshit." Haha. SO GOOD. I feel like everyone there was completely absorbed.

the way i've been describing it to everyone who asks is "EPICALLY BEAUTIFUL"
maybe i was too far in to hear anything else, or maybe the music just took over the entirety of my body. either way, there was nothing else going on in those two hours other than the music of sigur ros. to say it was beautiful or amazing is to say the pyramids are really cool. it was the kind of thing one can only experience first-hand.
halfway through the show i began to look around at the people near me, and i couldn't believe the number of people who were seated, legs pulled up, head in hands, just FEELING every note...every ambient sound of every instrument on stage. it was exactly what i'd wanted it to be and more.
heatheroo...just tell me where you want to go to see them and i'll be there!!!!

that was definately me!! I opened my eyes for a total of about 4 minutes at this show, I just NEEDED to hear every single sound that they were making, my ears were focused like they never had been before. I really wish there was video of the applause they got at the end of the show, but I didn't see any on youtube..

Same here! Still debating whether or not I want to see them in Detroit as well, since that's the only place they're coming that is close to me. But It will probably end up being the same setlist they play at Red Rocks so I wouldn't want to ruin the surprise!
I found them to be really pleasant to listen to and watch, but couldn't stay awake after my escapades from friday's latenight. Nothing against them in any way, they made excellent late night power nap music

Truly the best concert I have ever seen and I just saw Radiohead a few weeks ago! I was 2nd row for it. Jonsi's voice was perfect, he held those notes for like 2 minutes then would go to another note without dropping a beat. They had a pretty unique setup also, I'm still blown away. Thanks Iceland, for Sigur Ros!
You guys have pretty much captured my thoughts already. I'm really glad to see so many others that shared this astounding experience after reading a few people put Sigur Ros in the "Biggest Disappointments" thread. I guess any show can turn out badly in the right (or wrong) cicrumstances.
This show was like seeing musical angels, descended from heaven, that decided to grace us with a glimpse of some pure, ethereal type of energy in the form of their songs. That may sound cheesy but that's truly how I felt whilst listening...and I'm not a religious guy.
As for the sound bleeding over from Ghostland...it was subtle enough not to interfere for me, although I do remember Jonsi mentioning something about it. Besides, anyone who went to Ghostland after that wouldn't hold it against them.
And to the guy using his Camelbak for beer, please tell me if you can get your water to NOT taste like beer ever again.
I got close to the front, but decided to sit down in the middle of the standing crowd, and I had my eyes closed for nearly the entire show, the sound was really reverberating through my laced head.
Same here, I had a very nice spot, but sat down for a song or two during the show.
It was so amazing, it was just beautiful.
I wish the little "Sit Down" chant that we had going had worked before the show though, that would have been completely epic.
And to the guy using his Camelbak for beer, please tell me if you can get your water to NOT taste like beer ever again.
That's why I bring a spare bladder I can swap out.
Not to sidetrack this thread too much, but this is a great idea! After my Camelbak brand bladder crapped out on me, finding the cheap Wal-Mart version was quite the revelation. It's obviously not as well made as the CB brand, but it gets the job done and is about 1/4 the price. Definitely makes multiple bladders more feasible!

i was towards the front for the beginning... but i had to go towards the back and get in the fetal position after the first half of the set so i could sit by myself and absorb the music. i missed out on tix to the NY show last friday when they went on sale so I bought a pair to the show in Montreal... hopefully I can find some to NY tho and sell my Monty tix so I dont have to drive 10 hours to Canada.
But if thats what it takes to see Sigur again then I will do it. Especially if they perform Ara Batur with the full orchestra/choir.
They're streaming the new CD, "Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust," for free among the many offerings in this week's AOL preview CD's: spinner.aol.com/artists/new-releases-full-cds

Amazing. One of the best shows I've ever seen anywhere. I went with my buddy who'd never even heard one of their songs, quite the way to be introduced. Needless to say he loved it and has been listening to them nonstop.
One of my favorite seens was when I had to leave the tent to go to the bathroom. Hundreds of people laying on the ground, geeking out, just loving the beauty of the music. It looked like the final scene from Radiohead's "Just" video.
They are one of the best live bands (OK, best bands, period) and no way did the Roo show was at the top of the our list of the best shows of the festival. I'm getting tickets to the Greek Theatre show in LA today!
I saw the second half or so of this set. My friend HAD to see some Chromeo which was awesome. Stood pretty far back inside the tent, right in front of the soundboard. Everyone around me was sitting on the ground with their eyes closed either passed out tired or spun out of their minds. I absentmindedly took two hits of what I thought would be weak if not bogus shit a couple of hours before Metallica. M.I.A. during the come-up was unbelievable and Chris Rock was funny but I felt really intense. When Metallica started, every note rumbled my body and soul. I couldn't stand up. I was forced to sit and feel like I was getting ripped through about 100 galaxies at the same time. At one point my hands were pulsing so hard that they became numb and locked up and I was unable to move them. I grabbed a Buddha statue in my backpack, held it against my stomach and held on. I began having an out of body experience, which is something I have never experienced before. For I'm not sure how long my eyes were closed and both my body and mind ceased to exist. I don't know how long this went on for but I remember all I was able to do was rub my head and get pulled towards the ground. It felt like gravity was pulling me to a point deeper than the ground. I was trying to meditate and calm my mind but the dosage was exponentially higher than anything I have experienced. In the past I have literally climbed mountains after eating strong acid with no problem. It's hard to quantify but this felt like easily 20x the dosage I was used to. It looked like I was literally passing out cross-legged with my head on the ground in the middle of the crowd at Metallica, yet I was still awake and apparently talking normal to my friend who was starting to freak out about my condition. I felt like I was going to piss my pants but I wouldn't be able to stand up and walk on my own. Every sound I heard had like a 100x reverb effect on it which seemed to echo in my jaw. I remember closing my eyes again and I was sitting in a cosmic plane. I saw an image of a Buddha figure with alien features. It seemed to be sitting inside my body facing the opposite direction. The space around that was an endless realm of space subdivided by lines of energy, much like an Alex Gray painting. Somehow I stood up and my friend led me to the far wall to pee. The grass around me started turning into peripheral images of people standing next to me. Somehow I used my friend as support to walk and we got out of there. Just getting away from the music and talking at our campsite helped me feel more at ease and helped bring me back to reality. I also saw a guy laying in the grass with a security guard standing on top on him. The guy was so far out there that he was just laying there picking blades of grass with a sad look on his face. He obviously had no idea what was going on. A female security guard was shining a light in the guy's face. I saw someone take a picture of the scene and then get chased down by the female security who tried to take away his camera. Anyways, that got carried away. I was just wondering if anyone had a similar experience but at Sigur Ros. There seemed to be TONS of people in the same state I was in. Were you all just too tired to stand, spacing out or somewhere else? It honestly looked like after the show was over these people were not going anywhere for the rest of the night. Did anyone elsehave an insanely strong trip at Roo? I would have rather been at Sigur Ros in that condition. Should have planned my weekend a little better. Just got tickets to their show at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis. I thought they went on sale Saturday but I guess I missed out on the initial presale because all the good tickets are already gone. I've got balcony seats which I usually hate but it should be unreal. I can't wait to catch their whole set, start to finish because the Roo set was unreal. It seemed like they wanted to play more but I bet they weren't allowed to. The crowd was cheering SO loud I can't believe they didn't want to play more.
See you at the orpheum, hehoo! I was lucky enough to get into the fan club pre-sale and snatched up 2 tickets. It doesn't say what section or seat number they are, so hopefully they treat me right. I was one of the guys sitting down with my eyes closed, believe me it wasn't from being tired or bored! My brain vacation definately wasn't as intense as yours, i only had half of what you had and probably not nearly as potent, but i couldn't have picked a better show for it. I can't wait for september, it just sucks that i have to miss buckethead and that 1 guy at first ave the same night. Boo!
I don't know if it is across the country but Time Warner Cable is showing Heima on their Free on Demand channel it's listed under the Sundance selections. I just watched it and it is amazing.
