The same exact conversation went down last year, and it will go down again next year. Turn on your local top 40 station, listen to it all day, and I would be surprised if you hear something from more than 1 or maybe 2 bands on the lineup. You can't see all 100 bands in 4 days anyway.
Well said! There's always someone who is going to say that Roo has officially sould-out to mainstream interests. There's also people every year who believe that Roo has finally gotten back on it's "once credible" track. Both view-points are ALWAYS argued back-and-forth every single year...and the truth is usually found somewhere in the middle. Love it, hate it, trash it, defend it, go, stay home.....whatever you want but, you're not going to change anyone's mind about Bonnaroo. It's so absolutely pointless!

wow you guys must have better radio sations then we do. ive never heard the dead on the radio. but we can get together any group of random people from the ages of 15 to 35 and ask them to name ten dead songs and few will be able to do it. now ask them to name ten tool songs, or pearl jam, modest mouse, white stripes, deathcab for cutie, beck, cypress hill, common, etc... and they will do much better. in fact i think alot of them would have trouble naming 3 dead songs. but if you think the dead are mainstream like these othere bands im not sure what world you live in. and if this isnt the most mainstream lineup roo has ever had i have no idea what world your living in. to some its an improvement, for others its selling out. and there are people that land everywhere in between those 2 points. not an us versus them type thing just some people are into differnt things.
Good job ignoring Dave Matthews again in past Roos. He is probably the biggest "mainstream" name in my opinion. I've said it a million times before and you always ignore it- but the Dead were huge, they remained huge and they still- after all these years- have a tremendous following. Are they "mainstream" anymore? Well the splinters of the group can fill some pretty big places. It all depends on your definition.
And seriously- can anyone on this board actually name 10 deathcab, cyprus hill, common, white stripes, beck or modest songs? I'm a big fan of half of those and I couldn't actually name 10 songs. I'll give you Pearl Jam because they have like 200 songs and their first album was so big that people could name most of them on that one.
Wait- I just reread your post and was laughing at the idea of a 15 year old naming more than two cypruss hill songs... (assuming they don't think "cyprus hill" is the name of a TV show) lol

I dont even want to talk about radio in NY anymore. Never really did. The only time I ever use to throw the radio on was when Stern was still doing a public show. Rock stations out here blow the big one. Krock use to play garbage, then they went to a more alternative layout for a year, now its literally 90% talk radio.
I would imagine the radio stations in NY would be the most cutting edge and blah blah blah, that surprises me....

when we get james blunt, beyonce, green day or fall out boy i'll say roo has gone mainstream.
dready kids following around the grateful dead didn't make them mainstream. they were huge, no doubt, but how many platinum albums did they have? how many number one singles?
i think the most "mainstream" act on the bill this year is probably the comedians. i see those three on tv almost daily on comedy central or HBO.
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
The Dead have 4 platinum albums, 3 of which went double platinum. Plus Skeletons in the Closet went triple platinum. And I hear the Dead all the time on the radio (Casey Jones gets alot of play on the local classic rock station) when I am in someone else's car. Point taken though.
