Yes, but Gogol was the Superjam. Might as well have called it "Gogol Bordello with guests." JPJ didn't have a solo set last year. It's kind of hard to have a varied sound when an already established band is playing a majority of the instruments. That's what I look for in a Superjam. There was nothing spontaneous or anything that felt any different than a Gogol set.
Just me, though, I guess.
Edit: for the record, I'm not trying to hold a debate, just explain my disdain for Superjam, this year. And I guess I should retract my statement of it not being a "Superjam" because that's what it was called, and so it was, basically.
I guess I need to say that Superjam is always a variable, and for me and my expectations, Superjam was a bust this year.

I didn't like it because it was basically a Gogol set. They already had a daytime set, and rightfully so as an up and coming band (no in my taste though) it was not on par with previous years pairings of musicians as far as quality goes.
Well Trey was there with Oysterhead in '06 which was my first 'roo I admit. Still I just was not disappointed, after all it is exactly what this thread said it would be. I just can not imagine that anyone who posted on here is justified in feeling surprised or let down. It is exactly what I thought it would be, and it was just as awesome as I thought it would be. The guy next to me left because Jack White was not there, I had told him 30 minutes before who would perform, and how it was gonna go down.
See it wasn't exactly what we were thinking it was. It said Eugene, Kirk, and Les doing Tom Waits covers. No mention of a drummer, so we were assuming that would be the surprise guest. Then, it just turned out to be Gogol with Les and Kirk. I don't think most people thought or wanted it to be that.

I agree with mothersky that the Superjam was a disappointment. Gogol Bordello is simply not a jamband, so their attempts to jam out Tom Waits fell flat. It was alright when Eugene was singing, but the moment he stopped (which is where a good jam band would really begin), it seemed like nothing much was happening.

I was quite pleased, personally. Gogol Bordello are an amazing collection of musicians and they seemed to have a great time with Les.
Never go into anything like this with expectations. Sit back and take it in. In the end, it was an amazing performance by a group of fanastic musicians who truly seemed to be enjoying themselves.
Yes, I definitely agree that it was a solid performance. I'm saying nothing of the quality of the show, and Gogol is a band that's very good at what they do. Just given the history of Superjam, this full and very niche band being thrown into Superjam and as a result basically molding it's sound just didn't seem right, and underwhelmed me.
It was one of my favorite shows of the weekend, but I can also see how it was not for everyone. I thought Gogol did just fine jamming along with Kirk Hammett when he came out later in the show, particularly the accordian player.
