I was wondering about that too, I always left thursday morning, but if its four full days ,which I hope it is, Ill be comin on wednesday. They always have bands and stuff on thursday, but more every year. Going to have to wait for announcement and info as to when gates open.
I think that's what it means but I there is an argument to be made that they're just marketing the Thursday night festivities that they've been featuring for the last couple of years. I think that they should have a 2nd stage headliner but that's probably a bit optimistic on my part : )

I agree with cdevaney's theory. At first I also wondered if perhaps they were planning on making a full day out of Thursday, or at least with a headlining act, but that doesn't seem feasible-- getting there one day earlier would not be possible for some patrons. But then I realized that over the years Bonnaroo has done more and more with Thursday nights. This past year we had 12 full shows that night, plus comedians in their tent, plus stuff at the solar stage, and that's still not to mention that all the other attractions were up and running -- cinema tent, fire sculptures, silent disco, arcade tent, ferris wheel, etc. -- and had been all day. That's a ton of $$ Bonnaroo was putting out for a full day of activity that technically wasn't even advertised as part of the ticket purchase. So yeah, of course they want to try and cash in on that.
I think that they are going to utilize Thursday this year more than they have in the past. I would really like to see a fouth headliner, maybe something Jammy that has been seen before, so that if you want it you can be there, but if you arent going to be there yet then its still cool.
They could give a headliner spot to someone like My Morning Jacket on Thursday. That would be considered a step up from the late night set last year, but not quite a full headliner.
(side note, headinlot i notice the dimebag avatar, do you listen to any other metal? i always wonder if there are other metal heads in the jam scene.
right here. im a metalhead first and foremost, actually. into a lot more metal than i am this type of music, just recently getting into bands like MMJ and the like within the past 2 years or so.

nice. yeah, im def. a metalhead first. but im always open to all kinds of music. (except r&b, soul) I listen primarily to black metal, some death, and grindcore/noise.
I definitely think that a Thursday headliner could be a "not ready for primetime" player like MMJ, SCI or moe. - a band that would be a draw for the people that would probably be early arrivals anyways and not necessarily increase early congestion.

just noticed the agalloch avatar, i just grabbed ashes against the grain a few days ago and i'm digging it. anyway, don't wanna get this thread off topic here.
it'd be awesome if it just officially became a 4 day thing. i'm definitely coming as early as possible (all depends on the other people i'm coming with i suppose)

The Dimebag avatar, thats a guitar player thing, the man was a revolutionary guitar player. He is up there and to me equal to Hendrix, Stevie Ray, Randy Rhoads,Duane Allman,Garcia. The man must of had 15 fingers.
I love Black Sabbath, Pantera,Ozzy(especially with Randy Rhoads), old Metallica, Motorhead, BLS, Priest, Maiden. I am not into much of the new metal bands, a lot of them, some of them are good, but a lot of them have the same thing going on, you know, a couple power cords with massive distortion, double bass drum, and "lurching deep screaming". You dont hear too much lead guitar or guitar solos in songs these days, which was what made a lot of those older bands so exciting and legendary. But that is the problem with 85% of ALL bands these days, they are to damn worried about writing a song that is gonna sell good and make money, their image, than their own musical creativity and ability.Good example pickup Black Sabbath Paranoid the whole record is great War Pigs,Paranoid,Ferry's wear Boots, Iron Man,Hand of Doom, Electric Funeral, sounds like it was recorded in someones garage, it was an extremely low cost album, not to mention Tony Iommi lost his two middle fingers that he plays with, he glued on false fingertips and shredded the guitar. And was one of the greatest albums in history. Thats whatt music these days is missing.

I wouldn't call MMJ not ready for prime time, they're headlining the 2nd day of Langerado....
I too thought about My Morning Jacket headlining a smaller day of the festival, but there are so many people that would want to see them that if they played that day a lot of people would be dissapointed to miss them. I'd be guessing Saturday before Pearl Jam.
I'm really hoping it means that Thursday is now an "official" day with a full schedule and that means we can come on Wednesday and centeroo will be open... but I think I'm just dreaming
In a more pessimistic opinion, it probably just means they're advertising the fact that they have bands on Thursday more now, and it will reawlly be the same.
One of the ways they market the VIP tickets is by offering a Thursday evening VIP-only concert with a "special guest." Last year it was Rebirth Brass Band. If there's a headliner Thursday that conflicts with that VIP concert, it's harder to justify the extra bucks for the VIP tix. That makes me think that Thursday this year is going to be a lot like prior Thursdays.

I'm torn. I normally like to just walk around and check-stuff-out on thursday, but I really enjoyed Patton Oswalt's set last year(thur). It was a great appetizer. It only makes sense with the ammount of people already there and set-up by mid-thursday, that they would continue scheduling more and more shows. I do really like to just walk around and explore on thursday, but i'm usually done by 8 or 9. I would really dig it if they scheduled some "big" late night shows or something on thursday, but left the afternoon to events like smaller shows, comedy acts and the cinema tent. IMHO.
