When I got into my car to go to work today, I realized that someone had rummaged through it. I remember that we didn't lock the doors after getting home from Pokemon Go'ing that our arms were full with dinner and Jeremy was the last one out. I had Kyle lock up so he didn't check that the car doors were locked. Luckily I don't leave anything in my car and they only got away with some change. I feel gross, it was one of the worst feelings ever. I had boxes of hand sanitizers for the Silver Plume awards and they were all open but who really wants that. I am still in shock that someone was so ballsy. I live on the levee and out of the way, which does make me a great target but it also means that they had to go out of the way just to check handles.
My lesson has been learned but I still feel disgusting. I am reporting it when I get home, but lets be honest, I live in NOLA nothing is going to happen. Oh and my camera batteries are dead so I didn't even get a video of the perps and I would have if they were working. Needless to say, I am ordering new batteries today.
I have off street parking and my upstairs neighbor is my landlord's daughter. They've been doing some renovations in the backyard so she parked on the street last week. Same deal. She left the door unlocked and got some stuff stolen. A lot of that stuff happening in the summer. I am so anal about locking doors (car and house) that I've luckily never had it happen to me.
I'm pretty diligent. This was my first experience having someone walk up my driveway and dig through my car. There's been a group of four teenage boys pulling on handles in Algiers this summer. Bored teenagers that know that they won't get caught because nopd sucks ass. I will be more diligent, get batteries in my cameras and leave my porch lights on.

We always left our car doors unlocked till someone got into both cars and stole 2 GPS a couple months ago.Now we make sure to always lock our doors.
Today I got an email that I am ineligible to receive financial aid because of my "failure to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements."
I'm on academic probation by .2 because of some bullshit that went down with my group in an undergrad class I took spring semester. I was already stressed out about making sure I get nothing but A's this fall to get me off academic probation (I haven't to maintain a 3.0, I have a 2.889).
I literally depend on my student loans to survive. I have no idea what to do. I'm freaking out. There is an appeals process, but it says its for "students who experienced a personal injury or illness, the death of a relative, or other special circumstance that affected your ability to meet SAP." Somehow I don't think my group doing absolutely nothing to help with an ongoing project which was 60% of my overall grade which resulted in me and one other girl doing the entire thing alone and only getting a C on it is going to be seen as a "special circumstance". I have no idea what to do right now. I feel like I'm going to have a panic attack.

I did some digging, and honestly assuming that they don't honor an appeal, it seems to me like you gotta take out a private loan for the semester so that you can bring your grades back up and meet SAP. Obviously those loans won't have the same benefits as federal loans, but they'll keep you in school so that you can meet SAP, which is the only thing that'll make you eligible for federal loans again. Idk if you'd have to take out private loans for the semester or for the full year.

I'm trying not to go into full panic mode until I talk to someone tomorrow. I'm hoping that I'm eligible to file an appeal anyways so they can pull up my grade report and see that I've had nothing but B's except for that one C and give me a semester to raise my overall GPA. I doubt I'd get approved for the amount I need for a personal loan.
What's the most fucked up part is that I received my financial aid award letter and had already accepted my loans for the semester like 3 weeks ago. Now a month before school starts they tell me this?! I had no idea I had to meet a minimum GPA for my loans, I thought it was just for my program.

wait. your undergrad makes a difference with your grad school loans? at a completely different school? during a time which you've earned a degree for and are now on a new venture? that seems absurd to me. I didn't know that was contingency for loans (I've never had to deal with that)
that being said, I don't know what to tell you other than a private loan if disputing doesn't work out for you. do you have someone in your program you can consult with outside of financial aid? I ask this because financial aid (in my experience) is a PAIN and they're always somehow insanely busy and take forever to get back and are never that helpful. we have someone in our program who is our basically student affairs director - she gives tours and does recruitment, but she's also a main communication channel between us students & the VCU campus. so if you have someone like that in your program, I would contact them.
My niece had the same exact thing happen. She had to get a loan for one semester. She was very upset and I think it's stupid. Grade history should matter.

No, when I say an undergrad class I mean it was an elective class I took outside of offered graduate courses. It was an upper level undergrad course that wasn't one of my required program classes. I specify between the two because I find that graduate students seem to be much more dedicated to their school work. The group dynamics that went down in that class wouldn't have happened in a graduate course. It was a fucking trainwreck dude. Clearly 4 people who had total senioritis and had no regards for their grades anymore.
And I'm not sure if we have a person like that. I've made an appointment with my advisor in regards to my academic standing, but I'm not sure if he'll have any expedited way of communicating with financial aid for me. But I'm sure he'll be able to tell me how to move forward with financial aid in regards to this. Fingers crossed I can appeal this. It seems that this is a bit much over a C I got in one class.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

ohhh gotcha. truth to grad students being much more dedicated (usually)
I'm sorry monie, this situation really sucks. dealing with normal financial aid with no bumps is stressful enough on its own, let alone when it's in limbo. I'm sure your advisor will know what to do, this cannot be the first time they've encountered a situation like this.
Our AC has been struggling. It's as old as our house (13-14 years) so it's not worth fixing. Having it fully replaced Monday. Wasn't planning on it. :/
Edited to add: And speaking of financial aid, etc... This money was supposed to go to student loans. Bah.

I live with that fear every day. My AC unit is 20 years old, and I live in a desert. I keep renewing our home warranty because I really don't want to have to replace the unit in a house I'm only gonna be in for another 2-3 years.

Oh man. That is scary! Fortunately, we plan to be in this house AT LEAST another 10 years.

Since we bought the house a year ago, we were having problems with our thermostat. A lot of times it was running the AC and heat at the same time, until I went to the circuit breaker and shut the AC off there for the winter. Managed to get the heat turned off, but when it got warm enough for AC again - it just never turned off, regardless of what temp it was set to.
I called a service company back in June, they had a two week wait and a $100 service fee. Called another one, it was a week wait and 90 bucks fee. The fiancee called a third company, who charged 80 bucks and could come in two days. Someone from the third company came down and said we needed an entirely new AC system, though it was only two years old. The outside unit was too small, the attic unit was rusted and leaky, vent and duct work was shoddily installed, etc... quoted us nine grand.
Long story short, we had someone else come down to take a look at it - a guy that works with my fiancee's brother in law's dad. All we really needed was a new thermostat. Paid less than $100 to get that problem fixed. Thankfully.
We've read about the average quotes in our area for a replacement. (Anywhere from $5-$11k for seemingly the same stuff)... The company we called quoted us $5500 for a new AC unit outside, new condenser pad, new furnace in the attic, new drain pan, new thermostats and a 10 year warranty on parts. Maybe there is a better deal out there, but I was expecting it to be more. We're going with it. Especially because they came out initially in 2 days, and were able to schedule the install in another 6 days. Their ratings on home advisor, yelp & google were great as well.
They actually quoted us 3 units with different SEER ratings. I did the math over the years and figured which would be more cost efficient in the long run because the install prices were different (obviously). Initially I was going to just go with the SEER 16 because it's more energy efficient, but after doing the math, the SEER 14 will actually cost $1000 less over the next 14 years with both installs included. (And then the SEER 15 was about $500 less than the 16, and $500 more than the 14 over the next 14 years). And we save an extra $2000 initially... So that will go on the student loans. In less than 2 years those stupid things will be gone forever and I cannot wait.
That doesn't mean I'm not stressed out about it though. Here's to hoping Monday is smooth sailing.

How many quotes do you have?
We only went with this one company because our neighbors have been having to do the same thing in the last year (go figure, the houses were built the same time)... And they went with a competing company and paid much more. And frankly, I just want it done and the headache over with.
Also, the other company our neighbors used changed things over in about 2-3 days. This one will do it all in 1 day. The sooner people are out of my house the better.

Yeah, ours quit working at the end of last summer. A guy came out and filled up the freon at the beginning of this summer, and so far it's still running, but I'm constantly aware of whether it's on or not.
As an added joy, most of the houses out here were built with the AC unit on the roof, so we also need to have a cage built around ours to keep the pigeons off of it.
Last night on a Reddit thread for a news story about a stray pitbull saving a woman from an assailant, a bunch of people decided to criticize pitbulls, call them dangerous animals and spew nonsense like they were predisposed to violence and had stronger jaws than other dogs. Of course, one of those cretins was a Trump supporter, so it's no surprise he among others had no qualms with negatively stereotyping an entire group.

Isn't this stereotyping Trump supporters?
stereotypes and factual segmentation can sometimes be the same thing.

In a way, but one of Trump's big platforms and guiding campaign principles is rallying against specific groups and dubbing them all as harmful to America. So, it's a logical conclusion to think a Trump supporter would apply this thinking to a dog breed(s).

I'll admit growin' up I was wrapped into the idea of pitbulls bein' violent and aggressive dogs. But after havin' numerous friends in my adult life with these wonderful beasts I cannot stand that stereotype. It's almost entirely upbringin' and how they are treated as pups!
A high school friend had herself one ugly baby, and it's been a long month-ish of continued Facebook friendship ever since. Yet I'd feel like an asshole if I were to unfollow/unfriend/block her because of it.

Does Texas have any at your own pace or shortened period online classes? At Arizona you could take a four week online class get an a and raise your gpa back up to be eligible and defer the first tuition payment a couple weeks with a fee based on your financial aid
Also I think all student loans have a 30 right to return, with no interest. If you get the situation fixed you could take the federal loan, return the private loan and only be out the loan processing fee
