Surprised by how many of you guys vape. I quit smoking right around when that was getting popular. Isn't the vaping worse for you, or is that a myth?
Is vaping worse then breathing fresh air, I'd certainly think so. Compared to actual combustion of cigarettes, I'd be pretty surprised. I doubt it's as consequence free as some would have you believe, but it's all about harm reduction.
Will definitely be interesting to see what the science shows in a year or two.

Vaping is faaaaaaar better than cigs in terms of health. More science definitely needs to be done on the inhalation of vaporized propylene glycol and vegetable glycol, but the one study that sticks out in my mind is that they had rats that were in an environment where the air was permanently full of propylene glycol - so it's like they were literally vaping with every breath - and at the end of the study (idk how long it was) they found no changes in lung health or on the alveoli or whatever the focus of the study was. Nicotine still isn't the greatest for you as it's a vasoconstrictor and can weaken the groin (and can be fatal in overdose amounts), but there's no way that vaping is worse than cigs.
Most of the responses echo what's been said here - e-cigs are more about harm reduction than being "safe". The long-term effects are unknown because they're a new technology.

I ordered some glasses for me and my mom from zenni optical. The lady at the eye glass place was a huge bitch and I'm pretty sure wrote down my moms rx wrong on purpose. She was mad we weren't ordering glasses from the place. We actually were going to until she tried to up sell my moms $40 reading glasses to coming out to more than $450. Now I need to send her glasses back but zenni is on pacific time and I'm impatient waiting for them to get back to me.
I feel like I'm one of the rare few who smoke/vape less while at Roo. Each year I've found that I smoked way less than I planned on it. I don't like carrying things in my pockets (esp cuz a vape could fall out and get gross), so I keep them in my backpack, and it's a pain in the ass to go in there and get it so I kinda just forget. And personally I feel self-conscious about where my smoke/vapor goes so I don't do it when I'm in any sort of crowd...which is most of the time when you're at Roo. I know it's not that big of a deal, because when I go to a fest I know to expect it from other people, but even when blowing the smoke up into the air I feel like there's someone else in the crowd thinking "I wish this asshole wouldn't do that here" (and not just at shows but in the fields and walking around and whatnot too).

This really belongs in the Yay thread, but the conversation was going on here. I'm on my second week of (mostly) not smoking thanks in part to the help of Chantix. I have cheated and had a smoke after work. The drive home seems to be a strong trigger but I plan on ending that today. I hope I can resist the temptation at Roo. I'm already feeling better and not getting near as winded when I take a short jog. And, Jaz, my groin is getting stronger every day. No more blood flow restriction for me.

Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
I quit smoking and switched to vaping in mid-March. Since then I've slipped up a couple of times when I was drunk and smoked a cigarette, or just half, but last night was bad. I was pretty intoxicated and both my friends were over who pretty much chain smoke when they drink. I think I had like 4 or 5 cigarettes throughout the night. My throat is killing me today and my voice is basically gone.. It makes me realize how happy I am that I switched. And it makes me terrified for Roo. Because I know I'm not going to be able to resist an actual cigarette there. Something about drinking outside and music festivals that just turns me into a chimney. Ugh. I'm dreading it already.
I was actually thinking of this today. when I do cheat and have a real one I feel like shit the next morning. something about that damn farm makes me want to light up and I'm kind of bummed about it. ugh.
The only advice I can offer you guys is to just make sure you have your vape on you at all times while on the farm.
YOU CAN DO IT! Can you put an e-cig or vape on a lanyard? Just keep it 'round your neck all weekend.

..your groin...? Do tell me more.
Well, my whole body has begun healing. Jaz just pointed out weak groin issues with smokers a few posts ago. There is also this common known fact dealing with areas close to the groin.

Thanks for the info guys. I quit smoking several years ago when the Blu e-cig was starting to get big. My friends still all smoke pretty much exclusively, so I haven't had too much exposure to the vape pen (at least for nicotine). I'd imagine they're better for your lungs and respiratory system, but as you guys have pointed out, we know very little about these things so far. I just get the feeling that the chemicals and additives will create a whole new set of issues.
For you guys fighting the fight with cigs, keep it up. I quit right before my first Roo, and didn't smoke a single cig. I then went 3 years without a single drag. You really just have to say no to yourself. Good luck you guys! I did it as a 19 year old moron, so you guys can do it too!

Not that I've had any issues with that, but anything that lowers my risk is great.
Congrats man. When I first did it, it was sort of a test of my own will power (I'm weird like that), but after a week, I just felt like a million bucks. The effect it has on your overall quality of life is pretty amazing once you quit. The absolute best part is getting your taste/smell back. I had no idea how numb those senses had become. My pallet has changed completely since I quit. I used to be an extremely picky eater, and now I eat pretty much everything.

Thank you for not being that asshole. I don't usually say anything, but I can't stand inhaling second-hand smoke. It's so invasive.

I quit a few times in my life for a few years, but I quit for good after I turned 30. I have been completely smoke free for 9 years now. I have become the biggest hypocrite when it comes to smoking. I hate the way it smells and how it makes you smell. New Orleans just became smoke-free and I am ecstatic about it. I will say I do still have dreams where I smoke and I always get mad at myself in the dream. I wish all y'all the best in quitting.

This doesn't surprise me at all.
(but really congrats on kicking the habit!!! As an extreme anti-smoker, I LOVE seeing people completely kick the habit)
Is it my overwhelming will power *flexes, rips shirt*, or the fact that I'm all sorts of weird ?
Thanks Bonz! Shortly after quitting, I was pretty strongly against smoking, but I've come to realize the past few years that life isn't really that serious, so it doesn't really bother me anymore (as long as the second hand smoke is reasonable). I don't think I could date a smoker ever though. Just a huge turn off. I still love seeing people kick the habit though, so I'm right there with you. I always try to encourage people to at least give quitting a try. If it doesn't work, oh well, but it's worth a shot every now and then when you weigh all of the negatives and positives.

This, completely. I don't judge others for it, I just have a natural dislike towards the smell now. Smokers don't really have a "natural smell" I notice, and smell has a pretty strong impact on your initial impression of a person (pheromones and what not).

You're very self-assured, so it makes sense you would want to battle yourself- to prove yourself to yourself. I mean that in a good way. It's not a veiled insult.

No offense taken! If anything, I appreciate you noticing! Honestly, you're 100% right. That's a more keen observation than many people I know personally would make. It's pretty awesome that despite never meeting any of you, we've gotten to know each other quite well. Especially when you factor in my ridiculous internet persona.

Guys. Allergies are kicking my ass. It's been a week and I'm hoping to get better before Beale Street this weekend. I have just been taking a fuckton of meds hoping something will work. I'm not sure what I took last night but it knocked me flat on my ass. And I've had that wonky allergy pill hangover feeling all morning. This happens every year when the weather changes but it's been worse this year. Sigh. JUST GO AWAY ALREADY.

Have you tried Flonase? It just became OTC recently. I've taken Claritin for years with mixed results, but tried Flonase this year and it has worked very well

I've never picked up a cig in my life but I do love hookah and the occasional vape.
A year(ish) ago, all of my friends got on the "quit smoking by using vape" train. At first, it seemed to all help them. In terms of health, none of them still smoke cigarettes. In terms of money, most of them spend at least twice on vape mods/juices a month than they did on cigs themselves. I've also noticed my friends tend to vape every few minutes where cigarettes you didn't do it that often bc most people had to step outside to do it.
Shit.. when I go over to my buddy's house, he pulls out a small vape just for me and I puff on it the whole night while kicking it and I'm not a smoker (except the good stuff ;P ). It's fun though. I'm sure it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than cigs but it's still fucking expensive.

I have been taking claritin for two weeks straight with no relief. Last night I went and bought zyrtec and some mucinex stuff and I'm hoping switching it up will fix it. At least that's what everyone keeps telling me. I'll give it a few days before I go out and purchase flonase lol I'm desperate at this point. I don't want it to ruin slow me down this weekend.

Just gotta find what works for you - for me Claritin is best, and Flonase and Zyrtec don't do much.

They have OTC Flonase now. I take the script stuff, which is stronger, but I have year long, asthma induced allergies and I can tell you that shit works. It is not addictive even though its a nasal spray. Fuck the other shit you are on, and pick up some of that. I promise it is better than any other OTC allergy med you are taking.
For the record, my allergist has told other people I know that go to her, that very few have allergies as bad as mine. She wanted me on shots for them. They get worse when spring hits, because then my seasonal allergies kick-in also.
The worst thing ever is when those young kids that vape are standing behind you at a show and they just make a shit-ton of vape because they are young and dumb and don't know what they are doing. I had it happen at ACL 2014. I ended up HAVING to turn around and look at the kid and tell him, "Really?" He laughed like it was a joke and then it got worse. I turned around again, and told him, "Don't make me get all mom on you, we are here to have a good time and you are being an ass." He stopped afterwards. I hate being a bitch, but have some respect.

I don't mean this to sound bad the way it's going to come out, but I'm genuinely curious. What is wrong with vape smoke that you'd get so upset with them to "get all mom" on them? I would totally understand if it were cigarette smoke. Like Jaz, I feel bad when I smoke a cigarette in a crowd. When I'm fucked up I gradually become less considerate, not initially I just become less aware of it, but I always at least try to keep the smoke away from people. I usually hold it backwards in my hand so the smoke just gets on me, then I exhale the smoke upwards. But I know it stil smells and I try to be very aware of those around me because of it. I was looking forward to not having to really worry about that with vaping this year. What is it about the "smoke" from the vape that you found bothersome?
Again, I'm genuinely curious but I can't figure out to word this where it doesn't sound kind bitchy. Def not trying to bitchy. Lol.

They turn it up super high to get tons of smoke out of it. I mean TONS! It totally engulfed me in smoke. He was just puff, puff, puff and not really smoking it. I attribute it to being young, stupid and never really vaping before. People were moving away from him it was so bad. Plus, whatever flavor he was smoking was horrible smelling. The thing that bothered me was the amount of vape he was putting out. My boyfriend vapes, it does NOT bother me. I let him to it in the house. Every once in awhile if he has a bad smell it will fuck with my asthma or will blow right in my face, but that is a rarity. I don't know if I can even describe how much vape this kid was putting out. Which is why I first turned around and just said, "Really?" I feel like he was doing it to be an asshole as well.
EDIT: Also, my guy said that vaping like that is such a waste because you burn out your coils and that is when you get those toxins that they are trying to attribute to daily vapers.
