There's one venue in Boston (Royale) which has been hosting a lot of good shows lately - but my girlfriend hates it. Thinks it's too boughie looking (no denying that) and the drinks are too expensive (or that). But I'm willing to put up with it, she's trying to get out of seeing Black Joe Lewis with me just because it's there.
If you've seen The Heat, that movie with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy - the club shown in that movie is the place.
I have seen that movie and I know what you are talking about. Is it a big deal if she doesn't go? Take a friend instead?
It doesn't bother me going to shows solo, I've done that a lot.
The last time it happened though, the gf and my mother got all kinds of pissed off at me - and somewhere in that night I got the MOEMS ultimatum.
Why would your mother care that her adult son went to a concert by himself?
Something about concerts being a foolish waste of money, and something which I should give up to "grow up" and "become an adult". That and because the gf wasn't with me, I should have done whatever she wanted.
In her mind I'm 28 going on 18. She's always been overbearing and trying to control my life. I don't really give a sh*t what she thinks - I'm still going to go to shows.

Are you receiving financial support from your parents? In that case you are fucked. If not tell your mom to fuck off (in kinder words than that if you are smart)
I have been staring at my computer screen for the past hour trying to finish a paper for an ethics class. the grrrr part is twofold: first, I already wrote the whole damn paper but then lost the flash drive containing the file. which was not, of course, backed up on my computer or anywhere else. I know. so I've done it twice now. second, it's almost all done again, but I just can't find the motivation to finish editing and formatting. I've got maybe another 15-20 min of work left but I just can't push through.
I need some Red Bull. or coke. (<<< just kidding.)

Friday night I went to a show in Knoxville which is pretty much what I do every weekend. I haven't been going much to the after parties thought because they have been quite shady and I've just been hanging out at a friend's house. Friday though, I received a few frantic texts from a girlfriend about how shitty her boyfriend of two years has treated her and she really needed someone to hang out with and could she borrow some clothes and makeup to go out. Her bf had left her and wasn't allowing her access to her things. I threw all of my favorite clothes into my suitcase, all of my makeup into a big bag, my jewelry, my led gloves, new shoes, and purchases I had gotten just that morning from the mall.
It was a friend's birthday so we went to the after party for a bit and had to park the next street over. I either forgot to lock my doors, which is rare, or they were able to unlock the car somehow. Someone stole everything, including my purse. Luckily I had my ID and phone with me at the party. One of the worst parts is I know after the grabbed the cash and maybe the gloves they trashed everything else. Bright side though, I was in such a hurry to meet her that I forgot my led hoop and she had one of my outfits on.

Also wanted to note that I only stayed at this party for maybe 45 minutes. The "shady" cast of characters wasn't there. It was mostly college kids/frat boy types. Gah, sticking to the shady looking parties from now on.
My boys are with their dad for the week and last night at 10pm I get a text: Just so you know, Charlie hit his head today and had to get staples at the ER. He is running around now and doing great.
WTF! Just so you know? How about you tell me at the time of the ER visit? I'm so sad that my baby had to have staples and I wasn't there or even in the know to send him good thoughts.

I would be so upset by this. I'm sorry. Glad to hear he is doing great though.

Ugh.
Glad he is okay. I bet he is ready to get home to you!

Kid wouldn't be the only one with staples in his head. Just sayin'
I've done a good bit of ghostwriting and so I have a "contact me to discuss your project and my ghostwriting services" tab on my website. This query is typical of what I get:
"Hello sir, my name is [REDACTED] I live in [REDACTED]. I'm married without three kids, and recently discovered my passion for making books and/or novels. I have not the time nor money to do it on my own could you help me with my book. Please contact me at [REDACTED] or email me at [REDACTED] thank you"
I wrote this person back to say (in the nicest way possible): "Look, I'm sure you have good stories, but to be perfectly honest if you don't have the time or money to make or produce books on your own, you're not going to have the time or money to hire and work with a ghostwriter. But if you're truly passionate about writing, you'll find a way to make it work." And I went on to wish this person the best of luck, etc., because I don't believe in pissing on people's dreams.
But sheesh...come on...is a little critical thought too much to ask?

i hate asking people to take me/pick me up from the airport. it feels like i'm asking them to do something inconvenient and totally out of their way. blech.

You should know me because I love to go to the airport here. I miss the days where you could meet friends/family at the gate though. cr****
What do ya know? I have tickets to a Death Grips show, it gets postponed two days beforehand. On the rescheduled date, it gets canceled two days before hand.
Fuck Fuck and double fuck! I go to the orthopedist this morning expecting I'm going to get another steroid shot in the hip for the pain associated with the torn labrum. Instead I'm told it's too soon for another shot and they want to refer me to Duke for a consult on arthroscopic hip surgery! Seriously not ready to think about this and freaking out a little!

If it makes you feel any better, the recovery time from an arthroscopic hip surgery is incredible.

Tell me more because I saw weeks on crutches and months of PT
It's normally two weeks on crutches and a few months of PT. The amount of work is so extensive, it's crazy to think you're able to stand on it that day (or night, depending when your surgery is done). I mean, no one wants surgery! At least once you are fully recovered from surgery your pain will be gone!
