I've never been to the South before and my super-neurotic parents are filling my head with stories of my camp being invaded by giant blood sucking bugs, angry gators, and deadly snakes. Should I be worried? Someone set the record straight for me. Thanks
I live in the south and yes, I can attest that there are some massive bugs around these parts of the country, but it's not as bad as it sounds...
and I've never seen a gator at Roo.. you don't need to be afraid about that ... basically, there's just way to many people around for critters to come out of the woods... you might, and I stress might, see a snake, but snakes are everywhere in the country, and the ones you'd see at roo would be of the non-poisonous, tiny snake variety.
i ahvent ever even seen bugs at roo. just a couple of spiders on the tent. i think they probably spray i dont no for sure but there are no bugs so they must

I did not have ANY problems with bugs in '04. I didn't see anything really and mosquitos/gnats didn't exist as far as im concerned. There were a few horseflies, but no real big problems.

Well, there ARE bugs that crawl under your skin, but i dont think they will be at Roo. Just keep on dancin, and the bugs wont be able to get into your skin!

Not to be a killjoy but I pulled a thick ass tick out of the back of my head a few days after leaving last year's ROO. I knew I felt woozy but didn't know it was due to some bug sucking out my brain! :-O
Just check yourself often and you'll be fine, it's so freaking dry most of the time that you don't have to worry about mosquitos.

the skin crawling bugs that you are thinking about are chiggers, or thats what we call them in sc. they are harmless, just itchy. i dont think they actually crawl under the skin, they are just really tiny. we used to cover the bites in clear fingernail polish to kill them. ha
I got chiggers got the first time in my life last saturday, way too many to even try the nailpolish thing, they are finally much less itchy, but that was here, i don't think i was bitten by anything at all at bonnaroo last year, not even a wook!

products like 'deep woods off' are supposed to keep chiggers and ticks away. anything with a good amount of deet. you can spray the stuff on clothing also. you can read the directions on the bottle.

@ 2004 bonnaroo there were more grasshoppers than i've ever seen in my life. there still a dead one wedged between the back windshield and the trunk of my friends car.
I went to Urban Dictionary to see how they defined 'barking spider' the first definition is great! Love where it 'originated' from.
"A highly elusive nocturnal specie of spider mainly from the Tennessee area (also known as the Tennessee barking Spider). While no live specimens have been caught in order to be studied, this is the only spider known to man with the capability to "bark". These spiders are attracted by the scent of bratwurst and sourcrout and also been known to emerge on taco tuesdays. While you may not see them, you will hear them and at times feel them scurrying through the couch cusions. They do use a foul odor as a defensive mechanism. Beware the silent Tennessee barking spider, it is a deadly sub-specie and should be avoided at all costs.
Holy Shit! Call pest control. We seem to have an infestation of Tennesse Barking Spiders. I think Bill just got hit by a silent one cause I see him convulsing in the corner."
