I got a sirius in Christmas of 05 and I have relied on it ever since. I spent November of last year without it and couldn't believe what I heard on FM radio, I thought it wouldn't be a big deal but I couldn't stand FM anymore. It just didn't get the job done on my 1/2 hour + commute. I love the variety and it's nice to have on road trips (comedy stations break up the monotony). It's worth paying for IMO. Especially to hear a lot of songs uncensored and most music stations have absolutely no commercials. Gotta love that.

Satellite is the only way to roll. I was skeptical for so long, and I had one given as a gift three years ago. I was actually a little disappointed at first because I knew I would have to pay for a subscription. It didn't take long to figure out the difference. The only way that I won't have satellite radio in the future is if they stop offering it. I've found most of the bands that have been my favorites over the last three years on Sirius.
If anyone is scared off by the price, don;t be. Buy a year subscription for 110 bucks or whatever and forget about the price for the rest of the year. It's worth every penny. I couldn;t drive without my Sirius anymore.
And Ziggy, my friend had XM and while I enjoyed it, I didn't think it stacked up either.

i actually hope the fcc doesn't approve the sirius/xm merger. my dad has xm in his car (came free) and the music channels are not as good, imho. i'm afraid what will happen to the great sirius channels i love if they become one service when i'm stuck in my dad's car i can't find anything to compare to jam_on, coffee house, spectrum or left of center.
We want to share with you some exciting news: Yesterday, in Washington DC, we announced XM Radio will be merging with Sirius Satellite Radio to form the premier digital audio service.
The merger will create a satellite radio company that will provide consumers across the country with more and better premium radio programming. The combined company will be able to compete better in what has become a very complex and dynamic entertainment market.
Where today our exclusive contracts mean you had to choose between baseball and football or Oprah and Martha Stewart, the new company will seek to ensure that in the future, you will be able to access both companies' programming. And, once we are fully integrated, those of you who have factory-installed satellite radio will no longer be limited to the programming provided by the exclusive satellite radio service chosen by their car manufacturer.
This merger should be completed in late 2007 or early in 2008. Throughout the year, we will provide updates on how the merger is progressing and information will be available at our website, www.xmradio.com.
Between today and the merger date, as well as during the period immediately after the merger date, all of your services will remain the same. The channel lineup, the customer service number, the great music technology, and the XM Radio web site will all remain unchanged and there will be no disruption to service. But, if you have questions, information will be available and maintained on our website, and you can contact our Listener Care team at 800-XMRADIO, with questions and concerns.
XM Radio continues to be committed to providing you the highest quality audio entertainment and customer service available today. After the merger, our new company will be able to offer you the most exciting listening experience in radio.

Well unfortunately for us XM users, we have to get Howard Stern. And you Sirius users will get Bob Dylan's show, Tom Petty's Show, David Gans' Grateful Dead hour, Graham Nash's show, and alot more. Plus every hockey and baseball game.

I am purchasing Sirius/XM for a month because I am going on a long road trip this weekend. Any suggestions to good channels? I haven't used it in at least three years.

1st Wave - early late 70s/80s alternative, think post-punk and the dance music it spawned. easily my most listened to music station Classic Vinyl - 60s rock Rewind - 70s rock Deep Tracks - combine classic vinyl and rewind, but deeper cuts instead of the singles Lithium - 90s grunge College Radio - newer station, shares some similarities with 1st Wave, but focus is more rock/indie oriented, 80s/90s. think rem, replacements, etc. rapidly becoming one of my favorite stations Tom Pettys Buried Treasure - tom petty plays a bunch of stuff he likes. sometimes weird and obscure but always interesting, and petty was born to be a radio DJ. Pink Floyd Channel - all pink floyd! how can this not be awesome. Electric Area - lots of DJ shows, mostly. mostly progressive house, but some trance and house and other EDM as well. Tiestos Club Life Radio - basically just another Electric Area Little Stevens Underground Garage - a bizarre mix of raw garage-y music, but not just rock/punk stuff, plenty of soul and r&b as well. covers every era of popular music, from the 50s to today. The Joint - reggae Soul Town - great classic soul music. think motown etc. Michael Jackson Channel - just noticed this today, not sure if temporary or not. Studio 54 - all disco SXM Comes Alive - all live recordings from classic rock artists Faction - "extreme sports" music, which basically means any variety of intense music, whether hip hop or punk or whatever. 40% of the time the music is awful (new school emo-punk) but also plenty of good stuff. XMU - the "indie" channel. i honestly can't stand the vast majority of the music played on this channel, but I tune in regularly just in case something catches my ear.
And the two greatest radio channels of all time:
Howard 100 - baba Howard 101 - booey howard sterns penis

I signed up a few years ago when some friends got me into Stern. Stern is still the primary reason I listen, but even when he retires I'll still keep SiriusXM because I love the music channels so much. Once you do a road trip with it, I think you'll have a hard time doing a road trip without it.

I've always thought about getting Sirius but never have because I usually just use spotify in my car or listen to our awesome public radio station wnku. Should I still take the plunge into satellite radio?
Michael Jackson Channel - just noticed this today, not sure if temporary or not.
I don't know how to best describe Channel 50 normally, but the Michael Jackson stuff is only temporary. I think it's only supposed to last a couple of weeks.
