To preface an externally stupid question, I haven't been to a single massiv festival since Woodstock.
Now, at Woodstock, when I was feeling dilated, there were BAD VIBES. As in people starting igniting shit, acting like apes and generally being "not cool". This led to an interesting though not particularly enjoyable experience.
So to my question : how is the vibe at Bonnaroo, particularly late night wanderings?
I realize the "it is what you make it" explanation would be offered by some, but I'm curious if anyone can put into words the general aura.
because if you ment '69, I'd just say you ate some bad sh*t.
Bonnaroo is nothing like Woodstock 99. Sure you have a unpleasent element there, just like you would at anyother festival, but there are certainly no rapings, beatings, massive bonfires, destructive pinheads, crappy bands like Limp Bizkit, or 6 dollar bottled waters.
to put it simply, Bonnaroo is about good music, good times and good people.. always has been, always will be.
bonnaroo is where I'd like to always be.. I've never came across bad vibes. the late night is the best part. it's when all the real cool people are out becuase it's the best time to enjoy great music. like everyone else said.. you'll have fun
They Don't exist! Bonnaroo is the one time everyone can come together and help each other out which makes this festival so peaceful and majestic. You can be who you want to be, do what you want to do, see what you want to see, and feel what you want to feel. I am not one of those people who will tell you that the music isn't most important, because I have always been a show junky. But The whole experience is what you make it and to me it's all about the vibe! and the VIBE IS GOOOOOOOD!!! Happy Bonnaroo vibes to only 13 agonizing days away! See you there peeps. KJ
Yes, and the mood/vibe is infectous as well. One night after WSP and many drinks, many shows and all day in the hot sun and rain, we slowly headed out to BFE to go to bed. As we walked along the mostly empty path near our camp without speaking; just kinda dragging along thinking about sleep and each of us wondering if we needed to make one last pee-stop, some girls called out from their camp, "Merry Bonnaroo!" We started cracking up and Merry Bonnaroo'ing them back - the mood/vibe came back. ;D
But you will start seeing the Roo mood/vibe long before your reach the farm. Last year on the drive to Roo, we kept watching for other Roo'ers on the road. For more than half of the trip, we couldn't spot one. Finally, we drove beside this girl driving alone with a bunch of camping stuff in the back of her car. Kelly held up a sign that said [glow=red,2,300]ROO!!![/glow] The girl finally looked over, read the sign, and freaked out in complete happiness and joy. That is one of my favorite memories from Roo last year.
on the way to 'roo last year we saw a TON of people who we were like "dude they're goin to roo!" and then we saw a bunch of people pulled over and took a picture of all of them
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
I wouldn't be so naive as to say that there aren't any bad vibes. NOTHING in the way of that woodstock bullsh!t, but there are some, cause I felt them. I mean people have died there and all that, from having too much fun. I'm sure if you asked the people that they were with, they'd tell you, that it's not all fluffy clouds and cotton candy. There's a kind of dark side there as there is with anything, I guess. Maybe I didn't expect it, my first year, and it threw me off guard. I don't know. I do know that it kept me sober for the remainder of the time there after that Friday night. I know what to expect now, so hopefully I can cast off the bad vibes and not let it bother me. It's not anything to get paranoid about, but it is there. Sorry if I'm a wet blanket, in this sea of positivity.

Just living up to your avatar, Danbird
The vibe is amazingly unique, wonderful, and the thing I love most about Bonnaroo (and there is some very sketchy business if that's what you are looking for/afraid of/have on your mind etc.).
It's like the cave on Dagobough in Empire Strikes Back:
Luke: What's in there? Yoda: Only what you take with you. Luke: (makes whiny face) Yoda: Your weapons, you will need them not. Luke: (Makes smartass smirk at Yoda! Buckles his weapons on! Dumbass! Creepy Oedipal trip for you Luke!)
I'm sorry, but I have to point out that it's spelled Dagobah.
The geek in me had to say that.
but yes, I agree, there is a shady element there, but that happens with every large gathering.. I mean, Woodstock '69 is remembered as 3 days of peace and love, but there was some guy walking round selling people extremely bad acid... you just have to know what to look for and what to avoid..
I will say this, though, the good vibe far outweighs the bad vibe.
I am so ready for this! My 1st Rooo, this is my 1st festival all together! I am normally a little shy, but I am going by myself just so I am forced to meet cool people! Hopefully I can sit outside my tent with a drum and make friends!!!!!! ahhhhh hurry up Thursday!!!!
if you sit outside your tent with a drum, you will make tons of new friends... who knows, you could be the one that triggers the massive 30 person drum circle!

Yoda says to Luke "You will be afraid, you will be"
I would have to agree with some of the other post about thier being a bad vibe, but the overall vibe is a good one, but mostly the bad vibe i got was from people who were just drunk, making fun of people because they were tripping, example: during WSP Sat night last year, there was a skinny guy probly only 17 or 16 wondering around in the same area for about lets say 20 to 30 mins. some of the people ten feet away from us began yelling obscene things at this person, and basically making it even scary for this poor guy who was lost in thousands of people and looking for his friends, their was a definite feeling i got from people who were just strictly drinking that they were better then the rest of the trippers and smokers, i am by no way saying anyone of these drugs is better then the other, but that was the bad vibe i got from some people not all the people by any means.
i dont know if been so tripped that i was bumping into peole and everyone was overly understanding. i never saw one incident of anything like that. i know it does happen. there are as.sholes everywhere. but its nothing to worry about. your chances of seeing it are slim and all ya gotta do is move away from the douches and your good to go.
Or the guy that wakes you up at 6am cause he's throwing up outside your tent. And then he passes out in one of your chairs and stays there till everyone is up. You wake him up and ask him his name, and he can't even put a sentence together. But he can manage to keep asking you where his shoes are. I met that guy.
It's pretty much all good vibes. Maybe 10% bad. I just have a problem with the people that show up there, just to get f'ed up. Music doesn't matter to them, just the goodies. That annoys me.
The only bad vibes that i experienced was some lady refused to let my dad enter centeroo with a recycling bag for a pancho. She made him take it off and throw it in the trash. We just sat there amazed at the ridiculous irony and moved on. We had some kickass music to get to!
The only bad vibes I ever saw were people making fun of people tripping. Along with a few overly touchy-feely guys (who I believe were on something). For the most part everyone is amazing, whenever I laid down by the trees I had at least 5 people ask if I was alright (offering water mostly).
My favorite Roo moment was walking to WSP on the last night. Two older guys (perhaps old Deadheads) were walking in front of me and some buskers walked by dressed as gaint fruit. One guy turned to the other and said "That's the scariest thing I've seen all weekend". Favorite random overheard quote ever.
