Thursday Night - MMJ (think we'll start seeing bigger shows on Thursday) Friday Night - RHCP (supposedly reuniting this fall to start working together again...and I could def see Flea and them partying it up the rest of the weekend with us) Saturday Night - U2 (oh man the sing-a-longs would be great, who doesn't love U2?) Sunday Night - DMB
Late Night Friday - Incubus...although I'm not sure they have the library to fill the shoes of MMJ, maybe swap MMJ and Incubus Hip Hop Night - NERD "opener" (unbelievable energy live, great way to kick it off) an hour after U2 on What Stage, Common, then Outkast (supposedly also coming out with a new album)
I don't know if I'd be able to make it through Friday or Saturday though. It was tough enough with Metallica -> MMJ/Tiesto and Pearl Jam -> Kanye and I don't really flip over Metallica, or know much of their songs, so I didn't go too nuts. U2 -> NERD would be nuts, but I can imagine Outkast would BRING it. So, if this lineup happens, I'll sleep really well on Sunday morning, haha.
If Superfly is taking that who should headline blog thread on bonnaroo.com seriously, then RHCP will be headlining in 2009. As much hate as they get around here, I love them and think they would be a blast. I always loved their music, but the concert they constantly show on MHD makes me want to see them badly.
Oh, and in my dream world Dispatch headlines Sunday night with State Radio lighting up the Which Stage after MMJ/Incubus on Thursday. And Braddigan and Pete Francis each getting their own midday tent shows. Really when Dispatch comes back again, I feel like they will do some sort of festival of their own for some sort of benefit.

I know I'm a Roo outsider, only been to one show (2006) because I had a free ride and VIP treatment so my opinion isn't worth a shiz, but I'll add my $.02.
Go for something unique, recreate the Outside Tour: Nine Inch Nails & David Bowie. The 2009 version of the one long continuous set could go: Saul Williams ----> Saul Williams & NIN -----> NIN ----> NIN & Bowie ----> Bowie
I doubt NIN/Bowie will tour together again, but I doubt either would object to recreating it for one night
NIN has the most amazing light show I've ever seen, I hope they get invited to Roo 09 in some fashion. I saw them at Pemberton Festival this year, definitely weren't too heavy or aggressive for the crowd.
Other artists to consider: Outkast - (if you can get them to share the stage again would be a perfect fit. best live hip hop experience out there, absolutely insane.) Brian Wilson (new album out, touring again, would Roo enjoy a night of Pet Sounds and Smile?) RHCP (seem perfect for a festival, reuniting this fall) Foo Fighters (built up a nice catalog of hits, onstage jams recently with members of Rush, Zep) Smashing Pumpkins (saw them recently in a small venue. they covered Set The Controls by Pink Floyd... this cover felt like a rehearsal for a festival environment)
^I've been saying, that with the direction Roo is headed with the heavier headliners for Friday night (Tool, Metallica) the most logical next step is NIN.

After the show at lolla I'd see them anywhere anytime.
And they are definitely a logical headliner and not as heavy as they used to be.

I thought this to be a joke....I think I finally concluded that it isn't

I don't know about them all being headliners necessarily, but here are my big name guesses for '09.
AC/DC as the heavy headliner. The Dead - Duh. MMJ again unless they need a break from touring. Weezer afternoon on the which stage. WSP last band on Sunday. The Stooges - afternoon tent show Phish if they are touring by then of course.
Smashing Pumpkins (saw them recently in a small venue. they covered Set The Controls by Pink Floyd... this cover felt like a rehearsal for a festival environment)
I don't hate the Pumpkins, but ^^^THAT^^^ sounds like a terrible nightmare to me ...just my opinion

I threw a snapple bottle at smashing pumpkins when billy what's his ego started telling the crowd how they were more importatn than the Beatles. They sucked live. They had a reputation for being an unbearably awefull live band for years before they broke and he lectured the crowed with pomposity on top of it. Screw them.
Oh yeah. Scum bags like that have no business covering Floyd.

^^^ They were terrible at Lollapalooza in 1994 too... they followed the Beastie Boys and half of Randal's Island cleared out before the band was even halfway through their set

I'm not really into hip hop but I love the idea of bringing back another hip hop act. Just not one similar to Kanye - that was awful. Beasties would kill the place. Jay-Z would be awesome too.. especially if The Roots were the band behind him. Can you imagine the sickness of that? I saw someone mention Lil Wayne as well. I highly doubt that it would ever happen but it would be nuts. Outkast would blow s**t up too. Any of those acts would be great for the hip hop slot.
Going with the "heavy Friday" theme, I would love to see RATM, Muse, TMV, Tool, or NIN. Any one of those would be a sheer mind quack.
I think, if not this year, My Morning Jacket headlines next year. They could for sure pull it off. Jim James is a madman.
Arcade Fire would be perfect for a Thursday/late Friday night set.
Of course, who wouldn't want to see the Led or Floyd show up?
I am not ashamed to say I say them twice when they toured last. Christine did not tour with them. I've said it before on this board but Lindsey is an incredible guitarist, I don't think he gets enough respect.
Yet it is in this loneliness that the deepest activities begin. It is here that you discover act without motion, labor that is profound repose, vision in obscurity, and, beyond all desire, a fulfillment whose limits extend to infinity.

The more I think about it, I would really like an awesome hip-hop act like Outkast, Jay Z or even Nas to make up for Kanye, but I wonder if they will actually go this direction... I mean, I'm not Superfly, but perhaps they will shy away from big hip-hop names after Kanye-gate.

Kanye-gate ruined that night. It would be understandable for Supefly not to go with anothr hip-hop act after what happened last year. But, depending on who it is, they might deem it necessary because it might fit nicer into the Roo setting.

I really think I've nailed down two of the three headliners...
The Dead, Coldplay (and that's how it'll be listed on the bill).
It's only logical. The Dead brings the jam appeal that Bonnaroo is known for. They are predicted to go on tour in the Spring, specifically April and May... so their last show in June could be at Bonnaroo.
Coldplay brings the mainstream appeal that Bonnaroo needs to help sell tickets. At the same time, Coldplay has always been semi-respected by the alternative/jam communities... forging ties with Dave Matthews Band, being probably the biggest alternative band of my generation (I'm 21) and knowing how to rock their instruments. They have an EP scheduled for December 08 release, and are planning another full length for November 2009. After that, Martin was interviewed that he was thinking of dropping off the face of the earth for a while... so if Roo wants them, it'd have to be next summer.
Finally... we need the obscure act that Bonnaroo can make exclusive or just separate itself from every other festival. I could see Daft Punk ready for a show. They have a CD to come out end of 2009. They would have to show off their new set somewhere... kind of like their Coachella appearance a few years back.
And I think Beastie Boys might be able to take the Kanye West spot. I think the Beastie Boys are the opposite of what is wrong with artists like Kanye West... They are more accepted by the alternative crowds than most other rappers.
6/07: Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros (3 Rivers Arts Fest)
6/08: The Postal Service
6/12: Glen Hansard and Lisa Hannigan (3 Rivers Arts Fest)
6/19: Rancid and The Transplants
7/26-7/28: NEWPORT FOLK FESTIVAL!
Lollapalooza 07 / Bonnaroo 08,09,11,12 / FreeFest 09,10,11,12 / Made in America 12 / Newport Folk 13

Other highly qualified candidates for a Roo headline act... Eric Clapton, Paul Simon, and Van Morrison. I would not be upset if any of those acts had a spot on the bill.
Finally... a Yardbirds reunion with Page and Beck would be cool... I know there were rumors that one of those was supposed to happen in Fall 08. I also think a Cream reunion could be cool on the farm... but probably a little too far out there.

Cream reunion would be gnarly but clapton solo is a snore fest. Stevie Wonder is not getting an younger, better snatch up some of the greats while they're still around. Fri-Rage/NIN Sat- Prince/Stevie wonder Sun- Radiohead/The Dead
latenights- Pnuma trio, DSO, Beastie boys, mmj, saul williams, lotus, greyboy allstars, the roots, bassnectar, and/or Dj Dara vs Dieselboy

how about this..... on thursday for the "heavy headliner" you have Rush, followed by a late night NIN (talk about thundering thursday ) With A N.E.R.D. Late nite)
Friday could bring the likes of perhaps The Foo Fighters, Possibly The Dead if they were to bless us one more time, late night Outkast, Pnuma, or Bassnectar would suffice.
Saturday. Oh saturday night in Centeroo!!!....The Return Of the Allmighty Flaming lips on What stage, (http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003826362) with 311, incubus, Or perhaps Tenacious D In the afternoon, With STS9, Lotus, Or Bisco Into the wee hours of sunday. And sunday, the saddest day of Roo, We all get whats coming to us for being patient with "blunderoo 2008" a day set with perhaps Mule, Ben Harper, or DMB all leaning to the closing of the festival with Phish......
There's not a thing worth remembering When tomorrow can bring someone new Get used to the thought You can't be what you're not Life has already got plans for you

Just be fair, I do not really know a lot of people who are Jam band fans who have a lot of respect for Coldplay. Personally I think that it would be a big nail in the Bonnaroo coffin to have them.
