Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Plus all of the people like myself who aren't diehard fans of any of these artists. Just going for the general lineup and a great experience. I think that's a huge chunk of the crowd.
i agree ,i will be there every year no matter what the lineup is
yes, this is kind of the point I was making. They have a core audience now. I've been every year, and have no plans to skip one. I rent the RV every year when they announce the dates. The lineup is irrelevant. It's the experience.
I'm sure Radiohead will draw some people in, but not nearly as many as though who go just for Roo.
and for the Record, Radiohead is my second favorite band behind Phish, which is why I said what I said earlier.

Sorry to call you out, but that wasn't even close to the point you were making. It was all about how jam-fans travel vs. radiohead-fans, you said nothing of the roo experience or the lineup being irrelevent.
That said, you could very well be 100% right, in which case I would have to bow at your feet and beg for your forgiveness
I'd like to agree. jam-fans are definitly more likely to travel to see someone. I never go to any shows around my area (unless it's the only show around). I like to travel at least 2-3 hours away so I can catch the best show possible. it's all about location. and roo is a GREAT place to see any band.
I am a "jammer"/"hippie" and love WSP, Grateful Dead, etc. But Radiohead is one of my favorite bands. But I'd still go if they weren't there. With that said, radiohead is going to blow all of our minds in a place like roo. And if there are a lot of people coming just to see people like radiohead, or petty.. so be it.. it'll make for a nice and peaceful sunday afternoon when everyone has already filed out because they saw who they wanted to see. I think there will only be about 20,000 people catching the Phil show just because of how many people are only going because of a couple bands (i.e. bright eyes, death cab, radiohead, petty, etc.).
Don't mean to start up anything, just my own opinion
"Sorry to call you out, but that wasn't even close to the point you were making. It was all about how jam-fans travel vs. radiohead-fans,"
well, the point was that Bonnaroo fans and Jam fans are typically one-in-the-same, meaning that jam fans will Travel great distances to Bonnaroo with or without Radiohead.
and sorry to call you out, but travelling 5 hours to see Radiohead does not impress me in the least bit. That's what, 300 miles? I know many people (including myself) who have travelled coast to coast to see Phish. Next time you drive over 2,000 miles roundtrip for one band, give me a call ;-)
Nope, never crossed any country borders (unless you count limestone, maine which is basically canada). I always wanted to, I just never got the chance.
I did travel to these states from Tennesse though: Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, Georgia, North Carolina, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Florida, Vermont, Maine, New York, and California
Living in rural Virginia I have to drive an hour just to get anywhere, including anything resembling a mall. So 300 miles doesn't impress me too much when I have to go 100 just to hit an airport.
Anecdotally for me.... I am not a "typical" jam-fan. I'm a music fan. I went to Roo despite the jam leanings because i just liked the eclectic mix. I've driven hundreds of miles to see great festivals, NIN, Radiohead, K's Choice and more. In Europe the festivals are often spread out, in other countries, hundreds if not thousands of miles apart and people go great distances to see even lesser bands than Radiohead- but Radiohead is one of the single-biggest draws.
Is it like that in America for Radiohead? I dunno. But looking at the ferver for what few tickets to their tour caused, even on an Inforoo board of people who will ALREADY see them on a farm in Tennessee, I'd say we should try to stop figuring out the Radiohead fans and just welcome them.

Lucid - I think they will be more prevalent than previous year attendees that are there just for a headliner b/c:
-They haven't toured the US since '03 -They're doing an extremely SHORT tour, in smaller venues (some of which they were filling up 10 years ago), and tickets are GONE -Their dates aren't anywhere NEAR the southeast -Ebay ticket prices are already well above the price of a ticket to Bonnaroo - which will assure that you get to see Radiohead rock a giant festival outside ---- not to mention 79 other bands!!
Just my $0.02, but I think that if people are paying $250 to see them in a teeny indoor venue, they're stupid not to pay $70 less to see them play roo, even if they don't camp or see any other bands.

Thanks for laying it out as I should have. In addition to that, many of you have scoffed at driving 300 miles, well cities that are within 300 miles of Manchester which haven't seen a Radiohead show since 2003 or before, and likely won't see one again until possibly next summer....Atlanta, St. Louis, Memphis, Louisville...I'm sure plenty of those people will come.
I think some of you are taking this as a "Radiohead fans are better" thing, but really it's simple supply and demand. Radiohead tours are a scarce commodity, and as evidenced by the sellouts in 03, and the 1 minute sellouts for the current tour, there are plenty of people who want to see them.
Post by Hipster Doofus on May 12, 2006 7:53:28 GMT -5
and to put it into perspective, the closest they come to Manchester on their current tour is Chicago, where they're playing two shows at a 5,000 seat venue. Next closest is Boston.
As Cowboy pointed out, this is the by far the best option for anyone in the entire SE part of the US to see Radiohead.

Look at this crap: cheaptix.com is selling 'roo tickets (via a "Radiohead" search term) for no less than $236!! And it's not even sold out!! This is what I'm talking about.
"there are plenty of people who want to see them."
this much i do agree with, as I am one of them. I am very disappointed that Bonnaroo is their only SE date, but it may be a contractual issue with Bonnaroo so the Roo can sell more tix. I definitely KNOW there are people travelling in to see them, I just think 20K might be slightly high. i'd say 10K. i guess we'll see soon enough!
your favorite band is, lets just say Widespread Panic. Now, for some reason, WSP is booked into a festival with no other jamband and no one you like. AND it is 1500 miles away from you. Are you gonna go?
now for real life..
you love radiohead. you hear they are playing a festival primarily known for it's Jam-band roots. you like NO ONE on the setlist. and you live 1500 miles away. are you gonna go?
I do not think radiohead is going to draw in that many people. sure, A LOT of people there will like them, but why go to a weekend long festival is the hottest weather around just to see 1 band. (thats my 2 cents)

hahahahaha! man, I needed that..
you underestimate Radiohead fans greatly.
Every RadioHead I've ever met is into all sorts of different music. That is so ridiculous..
Listen, yes, there will be die hard Radioheads that won't go to Bonnaroo for expressly the reason you just stated, BUT there will be so many other Radioheads that will be there because they love music... just because you love one band doesn't pigeonhole you into this group of people that hates all other music except for that particular music.
This will be my first time going to Bonnaroo and what really made up my mind was just the overall lineup. I love Petty and I can't wait to see Matisyahu live, but I've never really listened to Radiohead's stuff. (although from what I read on this board, I'm ready to get blown away!)

jesus....on that ridiculous hypothetical, I'm out of this thread!
Come on June 16!!!!
Its cool man we're just talking about it... I mean none of us are really going to ever know what portion of the turnout was there mainly for radiohead and why.... Radiohead is no doubt the hot ticket of the summer... Im not here to debate just threw my 2 cents out as well....

Ok, I said I was out of this thread, but to clear something up.....I know Lucid, you're a straight up dude, I wasn't referring to you. And you're right, there is no room for debate at Bonnaroo or even Inforoo, so I apologize to everyone for getting sucked up in it every now and then.

does it really matter who came for who? i like radiohead and i'm sure i'll catch there show, but when there's bands like Robert Randolf, Phil Lesh OYSTERHEAD Les claypool, there's just so many good bands that i think everyone is going to go see a bunch of shows, this is my first roo, and i'm going to be coming from wakarusa, and i just wondered why bonnaroo wouldn't try to book Yonder Mountain, from what i hear they put on a great show last year. any way WHOS READY TO ROOOOOO!!!!
I think a discussion like this was going to come up sooner or later. As posted in numerous threads here, many believe Superfly is trying to make a distinct change this year by adding what is considered to be more "mainstream" acts into their lineup. Because of this, and whether you're happy about it or not, it seems only logical that people would speculate on how many fans of which are going to show up.
