Who do you guys think would be the best band to try and get a glow war started?? Are we gunna see it as much this year? I'm thinking about seriously getting one going. Which show(s) would be sweet?
its hard to say.... kinda hard to pick one this year... none of the headliners really fits that vibe... i would say phil and friends with trey but i think alot more people will be leaving early this year...i would guess and i definetly hope there is a good one raging at oysterhead... i plan in being in the correct frame of mind to enjoy a good light show to some trippy jammin... i just hope i dont take one in the eye...although glow stick wars are a favorite part of a show for me it seems like we could find something that glows and yet wouldnt be able to cause great bodily harm

OYSTERHEAD. That's it and that's all. Trey @ Roo is the only place left in the world that you can actually get a glowstick war started. I'm spending at least $50-$100 on sticks for that show.
I wouldn't bother trying anywhere else - it will be weak at best. And Umph/Bisco is in a tent, anyway.

They seemed to mainly be the glow string types, not the short stubby hard ones. At least during the Panic shows it was mostly glow strings which don't really hurt unless you are looking straight up and catch one in the face direct.

Yeah the unspoken rules of a glowstick war i posted on Wakarusa were as follows...
1. Dont glowstick war near tapers 2. Only throw the thin bracelet/necklace ones, NOT the lightsticks. 3. Dont throw them at the poor defenseless musicians. 4. If you really want to be super nice, volunteer to help clean up the grounds for an hour or two sometime throughout the weekend.
I was thinking Oysterhead might be the only option, it is hard to get one going in a tent... Random campsite wars would be cool too though...

I'm just saying, there's nothing wrong w/ a little bit of dangerous fun. Exhiliartion is good. I mean they are glowsticks, not bricks - you might get a little bruise, but we're talking about a truly beautiful sight totally created by the energy of the crowd. I'll take one on the head if it means a truly awesome war.
But yea - don't throw them @ tapers or the band, if you can help it. I'm with you there.

There will be many monents during Radiohead that are ripe for glowstick explosions. Idioteque specifically comes to mind as the perfect time. I hope some of you save some glowstick action for the other 'head.

There are tons of songs from tons of bands that are going to be there that would be ripe for a war. BUT the crowd/energy to do it will probably only be @ OHead. Just my prediction/opinion, I could be wrong. I just think trying to start one at any other show would be weak @ best and a waste @ worst.

Id say osterhead is a givin for the glowstick wars. I have taken many glowsticks to the head, mostly phish shows, and they hurt. I find that most people choose to throw the sticks, as opposed to the string or necklace/bracelet. Its all in good fun people, but dont be shy to duck and cover. Sometimes its necessary.
I don't think an Ump/Disco glow stick war is likely; that show is going to be in a tent as I understand it. Oysterhead is the most likely suspect, assuming they play a nite show. Really there aren't very many options considering this must be at night and must occur at a stage (not a tent) show. We're going to have to wait for a schedule to really find out. I think we'll see some glow action during radiohead, but the full fledged war will probably happen Saturday nite, whoever is on the Which Stage
I'm bringing a bunch of tortillas to fling through the air for Oysterhead (like they did in Phish's fall of '99) hopefully the crowd will get into and Trey will enjoy it, plus you don't have to worry about getting bruised!
Actually, I wonder if you guys would be into helping me get that started? Anyone into it? I think it could be really fun! Let me know and we'll plan something...

I'll still bring glowsticks, and we'll have a hybrid war. Later, we can break open the sticks, pour the gel on the tortillas, and have a glow-tilla war.
I think a glowstick war would be good at the Umph/Bisco show, tent or not. In 03 there was a really fun glowstick war during Particle's LATE night tent set. But I think it'll be most successful at Oysterhead.
ya i ahve usually found it to be sticks...and they do hurt and the worst they can do is not a bruise... its all fun and games till someone loses an eye.... but hey its roo and it looks really sweet so im sure everyone will survive....
I do like the idea of coating something in the glow stuff, or some kind of glow paint maybe? I dunno the logistics of the glow industry, but perhaps we could cover something (preferably cheap and abundant) in the glow stuff? Oysters perhaps, maybe something which flys into the air easily, but doesn't hurt upon imapct . . . on that note, I suggest we fill water balloons with the glow stuff and fling them around with slingshots and the like . . . hahaha, everyone, would walk around looking all radioactive. other suggestions?

I'm definitely in on this glowstick war! sounds amazing! breaking them open seems a little scary, those things have thin glass in them, imagine getting that straight in the eye!
Post by Lucid Interval on Apr 3, 2006 21:47:44 GMT -5
Yeah getting the glow juice in your eye or on your clothes is a disaster(blindness and stains) and i can speak from experience that even tiny little drops will ruin a CD. I threw a bunch of sticks i picked up at sound tribe late night last year and people went nuts but i didnt see anything resembling a "glowstick war" for that show...
The majority of glow thingies i've seen thrown at shows have been the thin, mostly harmless ones and not the sticks... I always see a few sticks flying around and i have to roll my eyes wondering who's catching one in the face at that very moment....
Oysterhead it is... It might be one of the few options, i'll be bringing a few hundred to help get it going... Spread the word, i might save some for Radiohead but im not sure if it would take off as much...
Any Radioheads out there wanna get one going for their set??

Oh yah and someone posted this link on another thread, this is the best glowstick vid on youtube.com i could find.... and yes its from Bonnaroo during trey...
WARNING: TURN THE SOUND ON YOUR COMPUTER ALL THE WAY DOWN BEFORE VIEWING THIS... IT SOUNDS HORRIBLE...
Sorry if everyone already saw it and im a loser...

I have to say the glowstick explosions during Panic last year blew me away. I hadn't been to a jam show since Phish in 1994 so this was a new phenomenon for me and I had the biggest grin once it started.
Oh and I fully support a Radiohead event! I'll be doing my part.
I had never experienced the glowstick thing until Dave & Friends at Vegoose. I had a few bounce off my face, and I remember thinking hmmmm this seems dangerous, but i was so altered i just got into it
and then the next night when widespread panic was playing the glowsticks REALLY got flyin... it was surreal... people seemed to be throwing hundreds at a time, I couldn't quite figure it out...
And yes, paranoidbot, idioteque would be the perfect song for glowsticks... I'd be down for helping start throwing them, but I plan on being up close and taping...
