I hate to play the skeptic, but a lineup featuring The Black Keys, The White Stripes AND Wolfmother seems like a stretch. Hope I'm wrong, but that just seems miscalculated given those acts sound fairly similar.
There's no way it will turn violent, it's just not the kind of crowd. In fact, one of the reasons I am excited for Tool is because I think Tool is excited for us. They've come out strongly against the kind of moshing and stupidity that goes on at their shows, and I think the Roo crowd will be respectful and really into it, not all...moshy.
Trey - you got your wish. Now where the hell are you?
Anyways, I mean this positively, look at how big Bonnaroo is. Out of their first six names, they've all headlined other festivals, except the Police, who for f!s sake are the POLICE!
Tool - Coachella 2x WSP - everywhere all the time White Stripes - Glastonbury Ben Harper - ACL Flaming Lips - Wakarusa
and Manu Chao was a headliner at Lollapalooza. This festival doesn't only feature lots of great music, it's got some REALLY big names.
I'll throw it out now - Manu Chao>The Police. Whoever said that is a genius, that would kill!
edit: The White Stripes and the Black Keys sound a lot different, although they have the same roots. It's like electrified Robert Johnson or T Bone. Wolfmother is more of the AC/DC / Led Zep variety.
I had a kid who was in tight with SF/AC tell me at Nashville airport the mon after the 2006 festival that White Stripes would play in 2007.
But here is what he said.... He said it was gonna be a latenight showcase with Jack White solo > Rauconteurs > White Stripes 1-2-3 punch...
Not trying to get hopes up or anything, but just telling what I heard..
That would be seriously awesome. 3-4 hours of Jack White rocking out would be heaven to me. I've seen the Stripes live, and they put on one hell of a show (and so do the Raconteurs, from what I hear).
tool will be good, unless you absolutely hate that type of music, i don't care for it much, but i did at one time in my life, it will be interesting, so many people will be so f cked up anyways, i can hear that bass riff in schism right now, i just hope the whole what stage area doesn't turn into a mosh pit and gets violent, that could be bad
Maynard actually calls people out who mosh at Tool shows. I wouldn't worry about it.
the combination of the Arcade Fire playing three shows in chicago (and then me giving up and downloading Neon Bible which is amazing) , and now this!!! I can't take it. its too much!!!!!!!!!!!

The crowd will certainly not be violent. I have a few live Tool DVDs and they play an audio recording during their show that talks about having good, INTELLIGENT fun during their show... an obvious reference to violence that takes place at some other prog. rock shows.
I f*ing can't wait. This lineup looks unreal.
If MMJ and Explosions in the Sky and/or Sigur Ros were added, I would shyt myself.

I am still freaking out over seeing The White Stripes listed. They're my favorite band of all time (besides Talking Heads), and I've seen several shows and they were all phenomenal. Jack also provided one of my favorite concert memories, when at the end of a show he saw a little kid who was getting crowded out by everyone, so he jumped into the crowd and handed his pick right to the kid. There was no way you couldn't smile at how excited it made that kid.

that sounds like a stretch...but it would be cool and plus the raconteurs seemed pretty cool with all the folks talking to them at the airport after roo (myself included)

I'm super excited about clutch being there! I never thought I would see the day that they would play Bonnaroo.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.

would you be happy if its real?
Yes and no. I'm actually kind of underwhelmed by the variety compared to last year. There are a lot of acts, especially on the indie rock side, like the ones I just mentioned, that are really, really similar in sound and influence.
However, Manu Chao...are you kidding me?! Love the guy. Manu Chao opening for the Police is a lineup that I would travel anywhere in the states to see. Some of the smaller acts impress me a lot, too. And if the rumors of a Def Jux-Galactic collab are true, I would about lose it.
So yeah, some of the lineup I'm excited about, some of it I'm sort of lukewarm about. The only act that I see that sort of disappoints me is Franz Ferdinand (why not The Rapture or LCD Soundsystem instead?). It's a solid list and leaves a lot of room open for additions.
