Hey guys and gals, I'm thinking of bring my video camera with me.
How strict are they with video taping and such around the campsite and at the shows? Are they like Video Nazis or are they pretty lenient, as far as taping goes?

I brought a video camera last year, and i had no problem getting it in to centeroo. i just kept it at the bottom of my backpack. if they turn you down at the gates just turn around and go to the next guy checking people. once you get it in no one cares. be aware because some hippies dont want to be videotaped.

Thanks for the information, guys. I'm going to try bringing one in. I'm going to try to make a small documentary on the people of Bonnaroo, their stories and experiences. I just don't want to be hassled by anyone telling me that I "can't".
This festival's about freedom, love, community...not about some porky bastard wearing a uniform that makes 5 bucks an hour telling me what rules 'they' think I should live by.

i took my video camera into centeroo a few times at the first Bonnaroo, just put it in my backpack. since then it seems that they've gotten much more intent on keeping video cameras and professional cameras out of centeroo.IMO.

You should get a press pass and make it official. Might be less of a hassle in the long run.
I've seen them turn people away from Centeroo for less, though. Keep trying other gates if you have a problem. I look for the guards who are yawning.

I got hassled while video taping los lobos last year or was it the year before - hell I can;t remember details but anyway - Was videotaping in daylight about 20 rows from the stage and security came all the way out and told me to put it away. No confiscation but it still surprised the crap out of me.

I like to pull everything I have in my pockets out and turn my backpack around so its on my chest (the waterbladder section is filled with beers, as is the bottom of the bag) and turn my pockets out and just hold up my hands with all my junk, whenever I do that they kinda look at me funny cause my hands are full and just say go ahead man. Not once did they even touch anything on my body when I did this. Guess they thought I was clean ;D

I do the same thing. I have a backpack full of rain gear, blanket, low back chair, change of clothes, map, lighters, small medical kit, snacks, and water bottles (I like to stay in Centeroo the entire day if possible). It seems like the more crap you have on you, the less likely they are to search you.

Approach the line slowly and try to observe which lines are moving quicker, theres always one or two lines doing a simple pat down bag check and sending people on their way.
This surprises me... as I thought Bonnaroo was somewhat friendly towards tapers/bootleggers...? Or is that only if you are audio-only? I'm bringing my videocam and can smuggle it in if I have to. I just didn't think I'd have to...

It's audio-only, but there are plenty of videotapes of previous 'Roos. Just be stealthy and don't set up a tripod.
im thinking about bringing my phone...it has digital camera and video recorder... i doubt they will hassle me but if they do ill just get into another line or,last year, some guy walked fast right past the security at the exit and like a bunch of dogs they all chased after him giving several of us the opportunity to hop the gate and get in that way...be an opportunist
