i have never found time to make it to any of the sonci satge shows. is it worth going to? always seemed like id rather be off at a regular set then catching a brief interview with a couplse of songs. i see a couple of voids where i might have time to swing over there. just wondering what its all about over there

I have no interest in seeing Matisyahu. I'll be helping to represent the Dirty Chuck Taylors at the Malkmus show. For Sonic Stages I am going to try to see Umphrey's on Friday at 4pm while my friends are at Bright Eyes.
ya it seems silly to me to do such short sets. but ill go see toubab krewe as there isnt anything else going on that early and im gonna miss for moonshinestill

what is the sonic stage?
Select artists have an hour long set on the Sonic stage in addition to their normal sets on the larger stages.
I really like the idea, I mean if I can't check out a certain band's full set I could look for them on the Sonic stage.... I get to see moe. twice man, three sets!
Last year I caught Herbie Hancock on the Sonic Stage on Sunday afternoon( I think). It is a very small stage close to centerroo. You are very close to the stage, you can reach out and touch the muscians. It is a really cool intimate experience. They usually do a small question and answer interview and then they ask them to play some things. I reccoment checking it out at least once and making a decsion on it. It is close to the Brooers tent. Last year I met some kids early Sunday watching Toots and the Matals on the main stage and ran into them at the Sonic stage and we did they buy I fly and went and got some great beers. I also seen Toots from the Maytals there and he was shaking everyones hand. Enjoy......I cannot wait to get there.

Waiting to line up for the autograph table 2 years ago I caught Acoustic Syndicate on the sonic stage. Not a band I had ever really heard before, but I really enjoyed that in the middle of this huge festival there was a tiny ass stage where you could get really close to the artist. Also saw the North Mississippi Allstars there one year - but I really can't remember which one now.
I saw Chris Robinson for a little bit in 04, at the sonic stage. It was a little playing and Q&A like it was said before. Man how I wish Beck, Bright Eyes, or Malkmus was doing one. I might try to catch Andrew Bird or Devendra Banhart there this year.
Sonic Stage started out as the live radio-broadcast on Sirius or XM......Bonnaroo would broadcast the interview and then the performance....it started off kinda low key and now its like everyone is playing a small set on the sonic stage....I too have several of these performance marked on my list

I cried a bit when I saw Malkmus wasn't doing one.
Last year I walked by the Sonic Stage as Bobby was Playing "Touch of Grey." And I was like "Whoa!" I had to do a double take. I stood and watched it from the Jerry Cafe. I Plan on going over to that stage at least 3-4 times in the weekend, if only for a 5 minute trip.
They'll add a lot to that stage yet- I remember the schedule was beefed up when we got there.
I really like the concept and most of the time the execution of the Sonic Stage. Some really neat acoustic sets and often a lot closer than you can get to some people (meeting Herbie Hancock was one of the highlights of my concert-going career). It's a great space and easy to move in and out for the most part.
The sonic stage is a small interview conbined with a very small set, unless noted on the scedule. I believe Les Claypool is interview only.
I love the sonic stage because it gives you a chance to get a taste of a band you may not get a chance to see, or a more intimate look at a band you really love.
