Phil Lesh and Friends will feature: Rob Zombie and Maynard on vox, Herbie Hancock on keys, Steve Shelley on drums, J Mascis on Guitar, Zakk Wylde on Guitar, John Medeski on Organ, Brian Eno on Piano, Jimmy Paige on tambourine, Matisyahu beatboxing, The drummer from def leppard flailing his 1 arm randomly, and The Orchestra of Special People....finished, i just got this in from Lesh's agency so yeah, its official.
scofield is playing with phil. trey plays on fri. and he has a show in st louis on saturday. so i doubt he will be back on sunday. not impossible but i really doubt it.
I do not think Trey will play with Phil at the Roo. It's just not gonna happen with the schedule like it is. Scofield is the guitar player, which is sick none-the-less.
IF you want to catch Trey with Phil, they are touring together this summer from 6/28-7/12. Coincidentally, Scofield's last phil show is on 6/27, then he flies to Europe for a run with his own band. Not to metion if you check out PHil Lesh's tourdates page, they are playing 2/12/06 on a constant Loop over there. (IN case you missed it, Trey sat in with Phil on 2/12/06). I suggest you pick up a ticket if that's what you're looking for. See ya in Raleigh :-)
basically phil wanted the dead stuff to stay on archives for free and bob played the part of a greedy as.shole. now i guess they arent on the best of terms. thats the word on the street anyways.

They pulled the soundboard recordings from archive.org (you can only stream them now and not download)... Phil opposed it, Bobby supported it, there MAY be some tension... It was a big deal to deadheads... Jerry once said "once we're done with it, they can have it" but the thing is its just the soundboards all the taped shows are still everywhere, even soundboard are on other sites but archive just had sooooo many... Weir said it was the only way GD productions or whatever company could stay afloat in this Relix interview i read... Phil is more in support of the original idea conceived by the band when they made desicions to allow bootlegging and whatnot, i mean i dont think its as big a deal as some make it out to be just because its the SOUNDBOARDS... The band let you tape every show no prob and trade it around no prob... Now just cause they want rights to their soundboards people think they're gone greedy and i dont know if thats true... Another thing is that its JUST archive, there ARE other sources of SB's....
Just my two cents.... It does go a little against the deads philosophy but im not going to get pissed about it...

I apologize before i speak to whom i may offend. Ive been to countless dead shows and ratdog phil lesh and friends shows blah blah blah. It has always driven me crazy to here all the personal speculation. I have a hard time knowing whats going on in my own head to ever decipher anyone else. I remember seeing some awesome shows only to be in the parking lot hearing some wanna be deadhead arguing over the set list or why they didnt play this or that. I hate to even say this ,Im feelin bad about it already, Every time Ive seen phil , hes never let me down , Ill leave it in the bands hands And hope for an amazing cast. Dont mean any disrespect to anyone , No one has said anything wrong just sometimes grow a little tired .Just want the music to infiltrate my soul and lose control. peace to you all

i'm not a huge Grateful Dead fan, but i have seen their shows.... GD once, Other Ones once, and The Dead once...... i didnt really think that i would be psyched to see Phil & Friends, but now that i read SCO will be there im interested! add some John Medeski and a lil Bonnie Raitt and this might get real good. how about Bonnie Raitt for artist in residence?

I would like it if chris robinson was not there, I always feel like he takes away a little from what would be much more enjoyable...hes not got enough range to be singing as much as he does.

really. I have found this out through a few different shows. and nothing meant as sexist, but chicks dig chris robinson alot more than the dudes I guess. but like I said, with scofield holding his own, I could care less what happens.

Last night, Phil Lesh debuted the latest incarnation of his rotating Friends at San Francisco’s Warfield Theater. In addition to Lesh, the ensemble included recent Friends Joan Osborne (vocals), Rob Barraco (keyboards) and Larry Campbell (guitar, pedal steel, fiddle, mandolin), as well as stalwart drummer John Molo (who last performed with Lesh on New Year’s Eve at San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium). Representing the jazz-realm, Greg Osby and John Scofield also joined Lesh’s lineup, as they will again at Bonnaroo in June. While Scofield---who first joined the bassist for a two-day stint last December---didn’t dust off “A Go Go,” he did help Lesh through a handful of Grateful Dead-chestnuts including “Shakedown Street,” “Mason's Children,” “Scarlet Begonias,” “The Wheel, “Dark Star” and “I Know You Rider.” Phil Lesh will return to the Warfield Theater for an encore appearance tonight. For more on Lesh’s relationship with Osby, be sure to checkout our new interview with onetime friend Jimmy Herring below.
I would MUCH rather have scofield with phil then trey!! There is no comparison.
PLus is osby, and the other possibilities like bonnie raitt and dr john, phil will def put on an amazing show. and with the sax player greg osby, that definitly going to add a different dimension.
does phil normally have a horn section, or is this new?
also he will play a 4 hr set right? i think thats what widespread did last year.
