Looking at the schedule for the last few years and the projected lineups for each day that we have so far, I thought I'd try my hand at predicting this year's late night schedule. Here's my best guess based on what we know so far:
FRIDAY NIGHT
First Tent - Lyrics Born/ Blackalicious/ Common Second Tent - My Morning Jacket Third Tent - Umphrey's/Disco Biscuits
SATURDAY NIGHT
Stage: Beck First Tent - Dungen Second Tent - Sasha Third Tent - Dresden Dolls with Bindlestiff Family Circus Preservation Hall - Dr. John, Dumpstaphunk, Preservation Hall

I am not going to try and guess where or when but I think these artists will get night slots, just based on the type of music, not really my top choices, just what I think.
Damian Marley Dungen (this is my top choice for a night set) Tortured Soul Common Oysterhead
I think I would rather see Steel Pulse for a nice reggae vibe in the morning. Steel Pulse is a lot more roots style reggae, something that you can really just chill to.
I'm not a big fan of Jr. Gong. I listen to quite a bit of reggae, and he is not very reggae. I was hoping that he would be more like his dad, but he sounds more like Beenie Man. Very very hip-hop. But that's just my opinion. I would prefer Ziggy Marley.
I really hope you're wrong about Dr John against Oysterhead. I won't miss Oysterhead, but I've always wanted to see Dr John and I might have to leave Oysterhead for a couple songs if this is the case. I, however, think the New Orleans thing (which I find very plausible) could happen Friday when they usually do the mardi gras parade. Galactic more than once has followed the parade and last year even had a bunch of N'awlins artists with them on Friday (Chief Monk Boudreaux, Leo Nocentelli, etc.).
I was just thinking and I remember seeing a print add that Superfly put in the LEO (a free newspaper in Louisville) for Bonnaroo and it had Elvis Costello listed with Allen Toussaint. Now, if Rebirth and Dr John have late night friday listed as Saturday (early morning instead of late night, which it is), I could see Costello involved in a New Orleans tribute as well. Would make sense for Costello, as he has been doing all the N'awlins tributes of late (RnR Hall of Fame, Grammys, etc).
....Or it could be late Saturday night and Elvis and Allen could make an appearance then in addition to his Friday set, although Elvis has a show Sunday somewhere.
Elvis and Allen Ride The River 2006-03-22 16:59:39 Elvis Costello will celebrate the spirit of New Orleans on his next studio album, The River in Reverse. An in-studio collaboration with famed Big Easy producer Allen Toussaint, The River in Reverse was recorded shortly after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast last year, in both Hollywood, CA and New Orleans' Piety Street Studios. In addition to Costello's new title cut, the 13-song collection will feature seven reworked oussaint standards and five new numbers written by the duo specifically for these sessions. Both Costello's longtime backing bands, The Imposters, and Toussaint's stock horn section will contribute to The River in Reverse, which is scheduled to hit stores June 6. Costello and Toussaint will perform together at both JazzFest and Bonnaroo this spring. Additional appearances are scheduled to be announced in the coming weeks.
For a while I figured that Oysterhead would take the stage either friday or saturday night, and then moe. would take the other. But I wonder now if they will put a "jam band" on the stage the same night at the disco/umphrey's tent show. I'm terrified that they will put the hip-hop up against it. The more I look at the artists and schedule rumors, the more I think this years schedule will not be laid out in the same way it has in years past; or at least I hope so, for we are facing some serious overlap problems. (Last year had some bad overlaps, but nothing awful [except the huge overlap between Jack Johnson and Keller, that was awful scheduling.])

ya ive got real bad feelings about conflicts this year....the late night shows are gonna be rough...im sure there will be nasty conflicts...i know i will be seeing oysterhead for sure but if umph/bisco is up against lyrics born or beck or any number of other late night potentials it will be an incredibly hard decision... i wish i could make the schedule myself

I really like the original late night schedule posted by attornaroo and I think it is spot on as their are conflicts but none between genres... the only problem I do see is with MMW and Oysterhead... I don't think they would do that unless MMW started at like 2 and Oysterhead were over at 2:30 or something like that. This would also allow Dungen to play before MMW, but I also really think that one of the additions is going to be a late nighter... maybe SCI (which would be a huge "jam fan" conflict but hey it would make a lot of late night fans happy (less people at umph/bisco, less people at cheese)) or maybe the Dungen late night set could be followed by Arcade Fire since those indie type bands will likely get represented by a late night tent
[quote author=attornaroo board=music FRIDAY NIGHT (Tents Only)
First Tent - Lyrics Born/ Blackalicious/ Common Second Tent - My Morning Jacket Third Tent - Umphrey's/Disco Biscuits
SATURDAY NIGHT (Which Stage included)
Stage: Oysterhead First Tent - Tribute to New Orleans(Dr. John, The Neville Bros., Rebirth) Second Tent - Sasha (Other DJ to be announced?) Third Tent - (This is really tough) Either Dungen or Medeski, Martin, and Wood (Although I have a hard time thinking they'd put MMW up against Oysterhead)
I like the original list posted in the first post. I think it's a good one. I don't think It would be hard to imagine mmw against oysterhead. Actually, that sounds logical to me, b/c there are always conflicts of large degree late night (ween/primus, i mean wtf?). I think you definitely have MMJ and Um/Bisco opposite each other on Friday. And perhaps a HIp HOp tent as well. What I think is MIssing from Saturday is Sonic Youth. I know they are currently listed for sunday, but Late night Saturday IS sunday, so it's not a stretch, and also a great fit.
Rusted Root would be good late-nite action as well. You guys really think they'll leave the "which" stage empty friday night? That seems unlikely based on the amount of talent/big names we have involved here.

Sorry for the double posting action all. You make a good point, lots of good acts this year and I think they might want to use the stage more then one night. Seems like a great Idea to me. Night sets are the best part of the weekend so why not use the small stage if they got it.
I don't know. For me part of the charm of late nights (especially the first two years) was that there were fewer options, so you could literally sample everything, and this was a bit more of a shared experience to it (as opposed to everyone piecing together their own unique itinerary during the day). This is lost a bit when it goes to four stages from the original two. Of course, the late night crowds seem to get bigger every year, and they need to add stages to keep it reasonable, but with the attendence capped at 80,000 I would kind of like for one night to stay on the tent scale. Whoever they put on the stage would just be another conflict anyway.
Has it been confirmed that Umphrey's/Bisco is in a tent? Otherwise I wouldn't be surprised if they put them on the smaller stage. Umphrey's played their set on which stage last year and they've only gotten bigger since. Combine that with the fact that there will be more fans than usual becuase it's two bands in one show. Umphrey's has a lot of hype at 'roo after their huge '04 show too. Bisco also hasn't been touring often in years so this will be a lot of people's first chance to see them with their new drummer. I just have a hard time seeing them fit this show in a tent. Unless they put a large conflict playing at the same time I guess.

It was specifically referred to as a tent show or I would be thinking the same thing. The fact that their set seems like the Friday night "main event" is one of the things that makes it less likely for their to be a 2nd stage show on Friday night. If Lyrics Born and Blackalicious are Friday late night as I'm hoping, I'll be one less body at Umphrey's McBisco at the outset, but I'll be counting on them to outlast everyone else so I can still get a taste at the end.

:: ARTIST ADDITIONS - ROUND 1 ::
We are proud to announce the following additions to the Bonnaroo 2006 lineup:
Umphrey's McGee / Disco Biscuits - Special Late Night Tent Show
I think that you guys are probably pretty close to nailing the late night sets. But I do think that they might add another band or two who might be late-nighters. Also, why does everyone think that Dungen is going to be late night? I kinda see them as a daytime band. I dont know them that well though, but from what I have heard I could see them playing in the afternoon. And I hope that they add another dj or two like a Diplo, 2manydjs, Farina, Derrick Carter, etc. I think that they will because I am sure that Sasha wont play a four hour set, so they could get someone in to play an hour or two before him. Although none of the guys that I mentioned would really segue into Sasha.
Maybe a Mylo, Royksopp, Isolee, Deep Dish, Vitalic, or one of these types of producers/djs could segue into Sasha. They did good by bringing in Tortured Soul as a live electronica band, but could add one of those guys to fill out the tent with Sasha.

Royksopp or Vitalic would be amazing as well. Good call on Tortured Soul. They could very well be part of that late night tent. I'm hoping Sasha plays until the sun comes up.
