I understand that you get directed to a camping location but what if you just exit the line and find a spot you want to camp? Is that a bad idea? I am hopeing for a site somewhere in the middle, not to far from centeroo but not to close.
They have snipers who will shoot out your tires if you stray from the designated path. No, but for real, I haven't heard of anyone being able to shoot out from the line and find a spot on their own.
The road that winds thru the camping area on your way in is lined with a chain link fence. Not so much a problem to climb but not sure what to do with your car. Even if you could get your car past the fence they are so packed in it would be difficult to say the least to navigate without taking some people/tents out!!!!
Yeah, they are nazis when parking you. The website last year said every RV could have one accompanying car, and then the lady parking us refused to let our friends' car join us. No need for that b1tch1ness. It all worked out, though.
I was way out in BFE -- the truth is, getting a good location is a crapshoot, so the best way to guarantee getting a good camping spot is to make friends with your neighbors and then enjoy wherever you are as though it's *the* place to be.
That said, I was out in BFE and after our area was full, probably mid-day Thurs, some people got back in their cars and back in line in hopes of a better spot. We even saw a few people do this on Friday afternoon. But you can only do this if you have room enough to navigate your car out of your original spot. Plus, I think they still had hours more in their car; we talked to some people parking around sunset on Thurs, and they'd been in line for 8-10 hours (even though it seemed the wait time last year wasn't as bad as the year before).
I suggest escorting old ladies across busy streets, getting cats out of trees, babysitting the neighbor's kid so mom can get her hair done, etc. to generate some good karma between now and then. ;D

Cool. I like the idea of just pretending you are in "the" place. I think I can handle that and I actually wouldn't mind a 15 min walk back to the tent. That way I could enjoy some people watching as I go back.
its a good thing you wouldnt mind a 15 minute walk, seeing as alot of people have upwards of a half hour, and the furthest fields are almost 45 minutes away. when its that far alot of people only make the trip once, seeing as 1 hr 15 min. is a hell of a walk in the Tn. heat.

It wasn't really that bad last year getting out because everyone's leaving at different times. Actually I left late Sunday night after Trey, so I don't really know how it was in the morning. We drove to a hotel because we were soaking wet/covered in mud/tired blah blah blah, and our camp got ruined by the storm so we were sleeping in the car. So anyway, we decided to get a hotel. Yeah, I loved bonnaroo, but by the end of it all, I was just exhausted.
I've gone the last two years and never had a problem getting out. Was off the site in a matter of minutes both years. It depends when you leave though. The first year the Dead closed Sunday night and I had every intention of seeing them. All I remember is hearing them start from my tent and then my crew and I passed out and woke up at like 5:30 am on Monday. Nobody was even up yet and we cruised right out. Last year we watched Trey play like 2 songs after the Orchestra part was done and then we just decided to leave. We cruised out with no problems and stopped at a rest area and crashed for a few hours before driving home. I would say the best time to leave is Sunday night or extremly early Sunday morning. It also depends on how close your camp is to one of the roads in Bonnaroo. If your far away you may need to ask people to move and rearrange so you can get out. Most people are more than willing to help out.

Both times the last two years we were fairly close to Bonnaroo roads and were able to get out within 15-30 min. But when walking back to the tent Sunday night, we saw people already in line to exit and they'd been slowly moving for at least an hour ... the extreme mud and all the post-show people made exiting less than easy. But it's definitely easier to get out than in. Good reason, once again, to make sure your gas tank is full before you hit the Manchester area.

I think it's cute that there is still someone out there that thinks that they can "pick" a camping spot close to the stage, in front and center. That's what all 90,000 of us want. This will be my 3rd Roo. We get in on Wednesday night, stay until Monday morning, all is well with the world. Just remember, it's a 700 acre farm. You can't get anywhere in 15 minutes. Take your time and enjoy the scene.
last year, they tried to park us right on one of the roads in/out of the festival. i immediately proceeded to get out of my car, and told the parking dude that there was no way we had enough room to park it there. we were then able to go wherever we wanted. it was completely rockstar. if you hate your spot, tell them RIGHT AWAY so you have time to move. tell them it's because you need more space. that's what worked for us & the folks next to us with 6 people in their vehicle. 10 camping people in that small of a space wasn't going to happen.
