that totally depends on 50 things. You could do it w/ no $$ if you bring enough crap and don't to buy anything. Or you could easily spend a grand if you wanted.

"need" is a very general term. You COULD get by with spending practically nothing, but for me i "need" about $400. The more stuff you bring with, the less you'll have to buy. So if you are trying to cut down on costs bring as much water and prepared food as possible. Remember there will be lots of things that will catch your eye though i.e. Food, clothes, pipes, drugs etc
I'm going to be bringing all the food and water I will need. I'm worried about carrying and loosing cash/my wallet. I'll definitely want to get some shirts and crap...Do some venders take plastic?

No. At least none that i've seen. Who wants to hook up a phone line into the middle of a farm in TN? Just take cash and keep and eye on it. don't carry your wallet around, just your ID (if you're planning on drinkin IN CENTEROO), in a plastic bag in a cargo pocket or something.

The smaller vendors usually dont take credit. Some of the ones selling expensive glass and stuff may. There are also ATMs onsite, though I wouldn't rely on them being accessable or full of money. Like FC said, dont carry it around, keep it in the car or something with maybe a few bucks in case of a food emergency
