Hello everyone, first time 'Rooer here with a couple of simple questions.
Around what time does the sunset around Roo in mid-july? I'm just trying to get a gauge of what time the sun will be setting during awesome acts!
Also, is it at all frowned upon to start your car while you're in the camping area? My friend is probably bringing his laptop, and if I wanted to dump all my photos on it we might have to start up the car with a power inverter/AC adapter for me to be able to do so. If it's not a good idea, I can just buy a couple more memory cards, but I was just wondering if this is common practice or not.
Offically (from the US Naval Obser.) sunset is 8:02 in Manchester during roo (can you tell I'm a science geek?). As far as the laptop goes, like Heavy said, you can start your car, but you really shouldn't need to, unless your friend's camera has a slow serial cable that takes >30 min to xfer the pics, a decent car battery should be able to power the laptop no problem (for that matter the laptop's battery will probably be fine w/o a charging).
after a "bad experince" last year a friend of mine sat in the car with ac on for about an hour last year. no one cared. sometimes it's needed.
Last year, I remember Dave's set and Widespread's set (which each started at 8pm) the sun was already down. so headliners will more than likely all be at night. so 8:02 sounds about right for sunset.
Yeah, every morning (not TOO early) we'd start the car for 15 minutes of AC before we began the day. As everybody else has said, it's a pretty common practice when the heat is as overbearing as it is.

i always fill up in Manchester so i can have enough gas to take a couple of ac breaks during the heat of the day. be careful though, last year i dosed off taking an ac break and luckily my friend knocked on my window to wake me up.
As I've mentioned many times before, I dozed off after a bit of indulgence on Thursday night last year and slept through all the Thursday acts. Later in the weekend, I fell asleep on a port-a-john after the Mars Volta set and slept right through the night sitting on that little toilet. Luckily I had just dozed after I took a leak so my pants were up and the seat was down. I only repeat these stories as a warning to others...

Hehe - NO DOZING. Fri. night last year, I'm chilling @ camp during the headliner (I think it was Dave), TOTALLY planning on catching STS9. So we're chilling I crack a few beers, we decide to cook the burgers we brought, we partake in copious amounts of ganj, then I decide it's a good idea to lie down and rest my legs until the show.......
I wake up at like 4am w/ my tent wide open.
Do NOT doze off unless you're planning to sleep indefinitely, ESPECIALLY at night.

Be careful of dozing in general!

So you took a leak, then decided to sit down? What made you think that the port-o-potty was ever a good place to rest? Haha poor guy, be thankful you weren't there when they tried to clean it!
Yes, I took the leak, then vaguely remember thinking to myself "I'm so tired, I need to sit down for just a second," and next thing I know I'm waking to the sound of birds chirping and John Deere Gators zipping about. If I remember correctly it was about 7:30 am or so, but it's all a little hazy.
Sunset at 8 p.m.! I guess thats one of the differences between the western end of est and the eastern end of central time. I was thinking sunset would be after 9 o'clock.

lol, I've had an experience like that, though not Roo related.
when I was younger and in my more, shall we say, lightwieght stage of my life, I smoked a bunch over at a friend's house and then a little while later started to walk home, my friend lived near the town library, and it was a hot summer day, so I decided to go inside for a moment's rest in some AC. Well, I had to use the rest room, so I went into a stall and did my business.. I finished up, and hiked up my pants, but felt like I had to sit for just a few more minutes in the quiet cold bathroom.. 6 hours later I awake to " The library will be closing in 15 minutes. Please bring all books to be checked out up to the counters." over the PA.
I can only imagine what those librarians thought as I emerged from the bathroom 6 hours after I had gone in (the bathrooms were right next to the front desk).

I don't mean to hijack here. I got to thinkin of this while reading in here.
Say I have my camera charger plugged in, how long do I have before I have to start the car again and recharge the battery? Is there an icon on the dash that monitors the battery from inside the ca r(Jeep Liberty)?
does your charger suck up alot of electricity? I think it'd be alright to leave it in there for an hour or so, but I don't have a camera charger, so I wouldn't know.
even if your battery went dead, there's bound to be someone with jumper cables around you.

As someone who fights the heat daily I can attest to a blast of AC being the only way to survive. I'm an asphalt paver in FL, and in the middle of summer you just have to get the body temperature down a couple times during a long day. Drinking water, especially sulfuric warm Roo water, just won't cut it if you're still out in the sun all day. You may not get dehydrated but eventually everyone has a point where they will suffer from heat exhaustion. I've pushed myself too hard before and paid for it. Don't keep pushing for the end of the set or the next, take that break as soon as you feel like you need it.
