In 2004, my bf and I could NEVER find out tent when we rambled back into our campground (farther away from Centeroo than BFE, I might add). The "roads" they'd created in the process of parking people were twisty and curvy over some hills. And at one point when the thunderstorm was in full swing, I thought I'd just lay down in a puddle and abandon all hope. What we thought were landmarks during the day were impossible to see at night. I swear to you, trees MOVED in order to subvert our efforts. So, I beg you, if you have a brilliant idea for marking your campsite so that you can find it later, post it here. I've read a couple of Guides, but haven't noticed anything specific to this need. Everyone will thank you.
You need to get the good glow sticks, Cyalume brand (aka Omniglow) last a lot longer than the other ones. If you crack them at sundown they'll still be glowing when the sun comes up.
what if everyone is marking their camp with glowsticks??? Then what? haha doubt that would happen....but I don't like glowsticks...I think I'm just going to get a big spotlight facing up into the sky and just follow it whenever lost.

Good plan! We're going to have to both get different spotlights. You can have a normal spotlight or whatever else you want, but I get a goddamn BATSIGNAL. That's marking a campsite in style.
There was a pirate flag near my campsite last year. I got lost once....trying to find the path leading to the road. It took me 20 minutes to find my way....so much for finding new routes in the dark.
Anyway I used my neighbors flags and balloons. I remember I was between the pirate flag and the yellow ball last year. Of course it did no good in the dark. I just tried to remember what campsites I had to walk by (turn at people selling popcicles, around beer pong table, next to the people with a huge tent/tarp thing).

i think i just used the flag of the peeps camping next to us though. didnt get too lost, though a better marker would have been nice.

I suppose if everyone relied on their neighbors, we'd have a serious problem, but there are enough flags, balloons, and other markers that others have rigged up to make it relatively easy to find your way home.
There were mad pirate flags last year, you're going to need to get more creative than that. Pick an obscure country's flag; then use bizarre accents when talking to your neighbors.
you spotlighters are going to spend more on batteries then you will on your tickets
i have gotten lost a few times.. my best suggestion is to walk around and check things out before ya get too trashed..... but once nighttime hits evrything looks alot different... i really recommend having a plan for if your group gets seperated...like if someone dosent come back to camp then someone would meet them at the fountain at 10 am .....we slept on the ground and almost froze... we ended up taking down a blanket that someone was using as a shade wall and used it to survive...luckily we were able to find camp easily after the effects wore off and the sun came up but after that we made a plan for when someone didnt come home
The first time I went to Coachella, I brought my GPS and set a waypoint at my car kinda as a joke. Thank god I did, because staggering out of there at 1am I'm sure there's no way I could have found it without that GPS... seriously, the parking lots were like armageddon and i could barely tell which direction was up

Get REALLY LOST while it's still light out, and find your way back. You'll have fun no matter where you are, and it's a good & easy way to get oriented.

This is good advice, its basically what I did last year. I speant most of thrusday afternoon wandering through various camp areas, checking out all the kick-ass vendors and just watching the campsites grow. Be careful though, because where I initially marked off my campsite on the map turned out to not be where I was. I judged my position based on a small patch of tree and the lengths of the campsites around me and stuff. Little did I know how big bonnaroo was going to get. The number of people seemed to quadruple between sundown thursday and friday morning. When I woke up I could not believe how many tents there were; there were people camped out in field which I thought were outside the scope of the map. I had marked my tent as being close to the upper left hand corner of the map. Turns out I was much closer to middle of bonnaroo than I thought. I had a great spot, 10 min away from centeroo, but upon first arriving thursday it looked like I was near the edge of out little civilizaton.

I remember when I first went in 04' and getting lost thursday night for about 2 hours just walking around the campsite and not even panicking just looking at how different but beautiful it was that the place had become like a little city. I finally found our campsite because i remembered that Mafia Brownie stand that was right near our site. Does any else remember that Mafia Brownie stand that was there in 04'?? I tried this brownie that had marshmellows and chocolate, it was the best brownie I have ever had! I wish they would come back.

i had a huge flower pinwheel attached to our site last year but the wind ate it away. i dunno u just remember the tents that are around you and remember the path you took.. i didnt have issues last year really

I think I have a great idea, but I am hesitant to share it for fear that if lots of people use it(that's assuming it works), I would wind up in the wrong tent. What the hell! Here goes. I am thinking of getting a helium balloon and attaching to it one of those mini strobes. At night I would just have to follow the flashing strobe in the sky. Anyone think that would work?
if it isnt windy enough to blow a balloon weighted with a strobe light on it to the ground...thatwould be kind of sweet to come back and see your blinking balloon dive bombing people
