Dunno why Walmarts gettin' all the heat when plenty of other producers are doing the exact same thing, only they're sly enough to hide it.
I don't know, maybe Chinese kids need it. Maybe they need to get paid or else their parents will shake them to death or suffocate them in their sleep cuz they're not brining in money.
Who knows? All I know is Roo is going to be aweomse - whether we take jobs away from children or not.

you're flippin' kidding me right? try reading "Nickel and Dimed" or just about any article that examines walmart practices--such as not paying their workers enough to survive, not providing health benefits (b/c they won't provide full time jobs to most workers), preditory practices when they go into small towns, lower their prices to such an extreme that they wipe out the small business owners, then raise their prices to a normal price range. why do you think that small towns don't have any other shopping options? sorry for the thread hijink, but our own blindness to our buying practices in this country is just crazy. we are doing the world and the people in it more harm than good by not holding producers accountable for their actions. i agree that walmart is not the only company that does it, but they are certainly one of the largest culprits and deserve our wrath!

Wal-Mart really is evil and yes there are many other companies doing the same sort of things, but Wal-Mart is one of the biggest companies in America and it has alot of power to abuse. The other thing is that smaller retail chains(or local stores even) are in so much competetition with Wal-Mart they may be left with little choice but to follow the same path as to how the business is ran. Wal-Mart is all about taking and not giving back, and since its pretty much on top of the world as far as retail goes the only chance other companies may have to surive is to mimmick what walmart does and leech leech leech...
Wal-Mart is the ticketmaster of department stores... They just fool everyone with low prices unlike ticketmasters obviously huge processing fees and crap... Wal-Mart leeches off their employees(and the people who produce the merch), ticketmaster leeches off of their customers and you might even be able to say the artists themselves....
Wally world is convenient as hell, especially after a long ass trek to TN right before heading toward the heavenly gates of you know where, but dont go if you dont have to man, think about where your dollar goes and what happens as a result. Consumers have the power to change everything, if people woke up and realized this we could begin to put an end to corporate greed but as long as we keep giving them our money and think that we're the ones getting the good deal its only going to get worse...
Its up to american consumers to keep the capitalist disease from infecting the entire world. Buy local, buy organic, buy conciously, try to produce more on your own and just consume less overall...
I know im not the best writer ever but i hope this makes sense to some peeps out there...

there should be a whole foods in every town. people woud shiit if they knew how many preservatives and hormones are in supermarket food. its horrible. and half of the "preservatives" dont even help in preservation but are proven to be addictive. the food industry is worse then tobbaco. people arent just getting fat because they are stupid its because the are truly addicted to the crap they are putting in our food. if you try eating only whole organic foods you will experience withdrawl.

Whole foods is a good alternative but they're also a national corportation and dont forget that most food travels 1,500 miles before it gets to you. So if you want to make even more of a difference with every dollar you spend buy organic locally produced foods. So when you go to a whole foods store see whats local and whats not and find out about farm stands, food Co-Ops or weekly farmers markets in your area... You'll be doing alot of good for the enviroment and the food industry in america and most importantly you'll help to make it worthwhile for someone to become an organic farmer...

i love me Whole Foods, they also carry some local stock which is nice. I bought some farm fresh eggs from local farmers. I was kinda scared at first but they were mightly tasty.
Wal-mart is evil! In 40 years when they are the only grocery store and gas station you might start to agree if you dont already.

Mo! I totally forgot about that book (mind like a sieve, ya know). Barbara Ehrenreich is a must read. I'm adding that to the book thread.
i think my partner's mom turned me onto that book. go figure! i read it a couple years ago and it was excellent. while in school for social work, i worked with poor appalachian folk and the book was a perfect portrayal of their lives. the worst thing is that in the southern ohio/wv area where i went to school, basically the only jobs for working class people were minimum wage. i was pretty pissed when the whole welfare to work thing started because there aren't even enough jobs in that area to accommodate that program. oh crap. off topic again. anyway. everyone should read that book and yay for local organic food.
