I think someone has talked about this, but I did a search and I couldn't find it, so:
has anybody worn Crocs to Bonnaroo? I tried flip flops in '04 (the combo of the thong and sand resulted in cuts on my toes) and tennis shoes in '05 (worked ok, but they were a little hot). Personally, I think Crocs are UGLY!!! But, everyone in my family has them, and they ALL say they are the most comfortable shoes they have ever worn. So, they seem comfortable and airy. I was thinking they might be ideal for 'Roo, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience here.
I actually bought a pair of crocs last year at sports authority cause they seemed like they'd work great and they ended up having a Crocs tent in Centeroo where they sold them.
I thought they were great, particularly in the mud. They've got that strap you can flip forward if you just want them on loose. The only down side being that when you get mud or dirt in them (which will happen pretty easily w/the holes) you've got to take them off to get the stuff out. I mean if that kinda stuff bugs you.
But your family is correct, they are incredibly comfortable. Also really really light so you can barely tell you're wearing them. Plus they're pretty cheap, like $20-$30. Yes they do keep your feet nice and airy as well.
I bought a pair of Air Merrell Jungle Mocs two years ago. They were a little pricey but they kept your feet really cool, plus they were soo comfortable. They'd get ruined if it got real muddy, but when it was hot out they were awesome. They're around 70-80 bucks but they're merrells (honestly some of the best shoes you can buy) and I still wear mine all the time even after two bonnaroos.
Thanks for the info! I think my mom got some Merrells for Christmas this year that she loves. They are a little pricey for us, though, since my boyfriend and I will each need a pair. I think we probably will get some Crocs, though.

We go to 2 or 3 festivals a year and always bring Teva's (the strappy, velcro kind)with us and find they work really well. They stay on in mud, are cool in the heat and if they get really dirty just hose them off at night and they are dry in the morning. Just remember to put sunscreen on your feet or they get really burnt.
Yeah, my friends and i had a discussion about it, and this year we are definatly going with crocs. The flip flops got toooooo gross last year. Could hardly walk in them cause they would suction into the mud while you walk. There was mud DEEPLY caked in my flip flops. Took me a while to getthem clean

I made the mistake of taking my favorite pair of sandels to Bonnaroo. They were awesome. Perfect fit, and they felt so good on my feet. They were about two years old.
Within ten minutes of setting up my tent, I slipped on the tarp and tore one of the straps on my shoe in half. It was effectively ruined.
I tried taping it back together, but no can do.
I gave the sandels a burial right before the Dead set. They're buried DEEP in the mud.
My middle age mom, who has foot problems, only wears crocs. She has like 6 pair in all different colors. She gave me a pair this past Christmas (black). Although I think they're ugly and prefer to wear my rainbow sandals when bummin around, I gotta admit the crocs are damn comfy. I use them a lot up at the mountain when I'm transitioning in and out of my ski boots. They weigh nothing. But people here in so cal think theyre weird. I think crocs are more of a midwest phenomenon. I'll probably be rockin the crocs at Bonnaroo. They seem ideal...
I know a bunch of people swear by croc's and I'd think about buying some, but I was 100% pleased with my Teva's last year... they were sooo comfy, not hot, no blisters, and because of the straps you don't have to worry about them getting stuck in the mud. The only negative is the mud and grass were SO caked in them, I could not get them clean even though I tried about three seperate times, even soaking them I couldn't get all the mud out of the velcro. So they have been sitting in the back of my closet waiting for this year's Bonnaroo They are now my official roo shoes! If this doesn't bother you, you can find last years styles online (probably Amazon) or at discount stores (like DSW) for around $35 instead of the normal $50.
I bought a pair of teva knock offs at walmart for like $7..they lasted the whole festival and were really comfortable. I'd reccomend doing this instead of going out and paying $30 or more for a pair of shoes just for roo.
My first Roo I had some slip on Adidas sandals which I just ended up carrying through the mud. They'd get stuck far too often, but were perfectly comfortable. Last year I grabbed a pair of those water socks you can get for like $5. They didn't offer a ton of support, but I layered a pair of real socks in them and let my feet swamp up as they saw fit. Once you get past the "ewww, my feet are nasty" stage, they're ideal in every way. I figured I'd just toss them out after the fest, but have hung on to them for this coming year.
I have had a number of sandals in my life, but I must say that the best I've ever had (and were perfect for the '05 mud) are Chacos. They are insanely comfortable, and they don't have any stitching or plastic near your toes or forefoot so as to cause blisters. Instead they have one solid strap that weaves under the insole and all around your foot. This also means that stuff won't rot and break in the sole (like my Tevas did). Admittedly, they are kind of pricey, but so far mine have lasted me 5 years (with no signs of quitting any time soon). Most importantly, the company is independent and has what I would consider a mentality that most people at Bonnaroo would agree with.
i love my crocs... i got mine last year at roo and highly recommend them.. ive got a picture somewhere of the pile of discarded sandals at the croc booth... everyone just left their old sandals there when they bought crocs..... i had some tevas that worked allright.. but when mud would get between my skin and the straps it was rubbing with that grit and it sucked...crocs dont seem to do that when they get muddy.... they seemed a little pricey to me... i dont even remmebr what they cost, 30 bucks maybe but they were well worth it
I read an article somewhere about these new shoes and they look relaly cool. They are made by a company called Mion. They are completely water proof open the sole molds to your feet so they are comfortable and they seem to be very durable in every way and great for overall running/walking. Any one have any experiance with them?

I'd go with tennis shoes, just because glass, dirt, and mud is a bitch to get off with a limited supply of water. Also, nothing is better than leaving your shoes at the tent door, taking off your socks, and crawling in your sleeping bag with dry toes.
