So I've seen a comment here and there about ticks. How do you know if you have one, and how do you check? I just don't want to have a tick on me and be oblivious to it. I don't go camping much, so I'm new to things like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
i think you can usually feel them, but i'm not sure exactly what the sensation would be (when my sister was little (4ish), she announced one day that she had a tick on her head and it turned out she was right -- she felt something, but she never really explained what).
i think they are also usually visible, too....they look like little, round black bugs; and when they latch on to you, they feed, so they get bigger (i think they can get pretty big, but all the ones i've seen have been like an 1/8 or a 1/4 of an inch in diameter)
i know they get their heads in under you skin, and you are supposed to make sure it comes out when you take the tick off....there has been some discussion in other posts about proper tick removal, and I'm not really sure who is right, so i won't comment on that

i was all worried about ticks my first roo but if your not the camping type then your probably not going to be in any areas that ticks are going to present any. Don't sweat it man, the chances of you getting one are pretty rare.
Being a person that is near the birth place of lymes disease(Plum Island) Ticks are not cool to have on you. I have seen my share of them on my dogs and on me and I have to say if you are worried about them have someone check you before going to bed.Best advice I can give ya.
Most ticks are visible and are prone to attach themselves to the groin/pubic region or the scalp. I recommend checking those areas in the morning or evening. If you find a tick, go visit one of the first aid tents so it can be properly removed. Check the following for more info on ticks en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tick.

Two kinds of ticks....the dog/deer tick can be about 1/4" across....pretty easy to see....almost impossible to feel. The others are called "seed ticks" they aren't even 1/8 of an inch across. about the size of a freckle. I just pull them off with tweezers (try to pull the head out too) but even when you get them out you are liable to have an itch and a welt that will remind you of Bonnaroo, days after you have gotten home. They didn't seem to be a major problem the last two years. The First Aid tents will remove them for you.
First aid has become FANTASTIC at Bonnaroo, nurses, doctors, emt's, paramedics etc. I wrote an article on Bonnaroo last year, that has a lot of information in it. Everything from security, to drugs, to how tought tath event is to pull of every year. You can check it out online at www.nfrmag.com/July-Aug%2005/Bonnaroo.asp

Very nice read, thank you! maybe a good update for how the county and bonnaroo will work together this year for logistics would be even better. The more we know the better for all!
