I saw in a few threads that some people were taking solar showers to Bonnaroo ... I was wondering if they really work as well as they say they do, and also how long do you have to shower before the water runs out? I'll probably end up buying one seeing as they're not too expensive, expecially when showers there are $5 a piece, but I just wanted to get more information on it!

We used a couple showers at Roo .. one very elaborate that looks like a tall, narrow tent and one that was basically canvas wrapped around 4 vertical PVC pipes to provide rudimentary privacy. In both cases it was a very worthwhile experience. In order to get 2-3 showers out of the water bladder (which was our goal, since we'd laid it on top of the car while we were gone to get the water toasty), we had to do the navy shower thing where you get wet, turn off the water, soap up, and then turn on the water to rinse off. We could have had longer showers if we went with cold water (esp cooler water, which is in abundance as your ice melts), but why? I have long hair and it was difficult to get fully clean w/a fairly small stream of water, so I ended up washing it once at the wash stations they provide.
I'm a pretty neurotic bather, but I haven't showered at Bonnaroo once in the last two years I've gone. A load of good baby wipes was all I needed to keep myself comfortable. The days all tend to blur into one big wonderful experience anyway. I'd say unless you plan on slapping your naughty bits all over someone else, or are extraordinarily odorous, showering isn't necessary.
I'm a dirty Bonnaroo person too. No showers for me.
I wash my hands a lot, pour plenty of water over my head, and clean my feet with water, soap and baby wipes before I sleep, but that's about it. I do enjoy a good shampoo once or twice over the weekend, but I do it in public with my pants on. The ratio of rain to hot hot heat factors into the Bonnaroo dirtiness equation quite a bit. The last two years I didn't even feel that dirty, but the first two years were pretty bad (less rain and more heat). I'll confess that I kind of like being dirty, and there aren't any other settings in which my wife would tolerate it, so it really doesn't bother me too much.
Baby wipes and hand sanitizer is good. I bring a solar shower (actually had 2 or 3 last year, because we had a 12+ group.) My mom bought me one for the first year I went (03) and it turned out to be a heavenly luxury. They get REAL warm, hot if you let them.....up to burning hot.
I remember my first warm shower there, it was just after noon, and our campsite was close to centeroo. I was jammin in a hot shower from my showerbag placed ontop of the vehicle......listening to The Whailers play a set of legends. A great roo experience......one of many.
Definatly worth the money for the shower (like 10 bucks give or take)
Just remember to fill it up as soon as you get up, and put it on the hood of your vehicle in the blazing sun......hot shower within 2-3 hours. And the 5 gallon bags have been enough for 2-3 showers.....if not more.
Also, later in the day, the nozzle makes for a great way to wash your feet off........helping to keep the tent a much cleaner place.
