Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
My son and I are coming to roo for the 1st time and because I'm an old fart (54) and value my creature comforts, we have chosen to do the VIP ticket/camping deal. with all the softie amenities. Can someone out there enlighten us as to what to expect in terms of food, camping advantages, showers, distance from centeroo, etc. What's the REAL deal about that package? Will we not have to worry about food, showers, etc, or is there more 2 that we should know? My son is 15, and of course wants to experience the totality of the festival. Also, what do u know about bringing a couple of guitars ( we both play and are pretty good axemen, actually). Is that ok or will the Fender police confiscate our instruments? The roo website is somewhat unclear about all this stuff. THNX
I'll let an experienced VIP'er answer the VIP questions, but I will tell you that you should bring all the instruments you want! There's no rule against playing guitar, hand drums, etc. Just so long as you don't go setting up a full-fledge rock band behind your tent, you should be all set.
The fender police take the weekend off at Bonnaroo. Like KC said, just don't go set up you're own mini-festival. I went to my first Bonnaroo at 15 last year; its definitely a life altering experience, so your son will be in for an awesome weekend. What a cool father to take his son to Bonnaroo. Have a great time!
FWIW, my boyfriend brought his 15 year old son (and a friend) to Roo last year... they had a *BLAST*! Now at age 16 (almost 17), they can't wait to go back this June. It's great having him there with us!

I believe that the VIP'ers have the prime camping spots. Right next to Centeroo and Bonnaroo (the stages area). We got lost walking last year and ended up in that area. Seems (if memory serves) that we were right next to everything before we were turned in the right direction back to our camp. Have a good time. Take a camera, you will see things there that you will never see again! I took 200+ pictures last year. That way I can revisit anytime I want and take a mini vacation.
thnx to all of u for your replies, but I still haven't heard from anyone who has actually done the vip thing. What I really would like to know is what were your experiences/criticisms/observations? Is the VIP thing worth the extra money? Showers, food, etc???? Thnx ....the ballboys....

Are you planning on camping in an RV? That would be the biggest thing. We stayed in one last year. You can't beat the a/c when it's a ga-zillion degrees outside and you need to "chill". It's also really nice when it rains -- all your stuff doesn't get soaked. If you are doing the camper thing -- I would suggest bringing all your own food. We grilled out steaks/bratts, etc. last year (we were the envy of everyone around). The food can get expensive inside Centeroo. As far as experiences (for me), the people that work the show were great. There was constant cleaning of the port-a-johns. I never saw any showers where we were, but have read in other posts that they were one big mud pit around them, so when you left you got dirty. Maybe you should start a new thread with the title being a question directly to VIP camping. May be that people haven't read what you wrote to give their personal experience. Just a thought.

Hi,
Thought I let you know about the Vip thing. My husband and I did it last year and are doing it again. (the vip thing... blushing)
The showers were great but were not the greatest. Contradiction... not really... they smelled a little funky BUT I didn't care. They felt awesome.
The food was okay and the only meal we had to worry about was breakfast. Normal food... pastas, burgers( veggie too), dogs, salads, normal things that do well on a buffet. On Thursday night we had a really nice meal with open bar with our own private band. Very nice. From that point on, drinks did cost. $1.00 bottle water and soda.. I think it was $2.00 beer. (sorry, not a drinker) The food was available during the day, anytime you wanted to go. When the hot food was not available they offered various packaged snacks... cookies, chips, things like that.
Guitars are welcome but considering you are not far from "Which" stage you had music most of the time. I just put up a small collection of pictures for you to see. homepage.mac.com/kehlsb/PhotoAlbum2.html
One is 2003 when we did the hotel thing. And of course last year speaks for itself.
Some of the pictures are cheesy but what can you do. Of course the ones of the pretty ladies are ones my husband took. We didn't spend much time up close and our camera wasn't the best but at least it gives everyone an idea of the VIP area.
VIP traffic... not bad at all. The VIP lot did not open until 8 or 9 am on Thurs. Many of us were in the Walmart parking lot the night before. No problems getting in for me but I know a few people waiting in line for a while.
Let me know if I can help with any other questions.
Suzie, you rock. Thank you for sharing your experiences and your pics. And The Magic Bus was your neighbor! I live down the street from The Magic Bus in Indianapolis! Good to see we were represented well. I am VIPing this year; maybe we'll get a chance to meet at Roo.
