Hello, We are new to Bonnaroo and we know a form of this question has been asked a thousand times but we Really just want to be prepared properly. We (3-4 people) will be traveling by mini-van and would like to set up a comfy 10X20 tent with a little cooking/sitting area. Space wise is it even possible or should we plan for a really tight space and bring a much smaller, less comfy tent? Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions. We'll see ya'll in June!

It is possible. There will be enough room for your camping stuff. You might be right next to your neighbor. When they park you get out right away and start throwing your camping gear around on the ground. The staff will try to park you in as tight as possible but if your stuff is already on the ground they won't be able to park the next row of cars on top of you

When you get in they try to park you like sardines. Don't let them. Leave enough space in front of your car to camp and just turn the car off and throw your stuff out. There isn't anything they can do when they're trying to park 90,000 other people. Don't get me wrong, you'll be on top of your neighbor, but that's what roo is all about.
I have to agree with everyone else. Mostly all that is going on when people are coming in is crowd control. Traffic moves at a snails pace because everyone that got in ahead of you is already milling about -- they seem to forget after parking their own cars that more are still coming in. One suggestion -- park crooked. But definatly, as soon as the ignition is off start throwing stuff all around on the ground. Everone wants their own space. Just get there early enough where there still is space and it's not such a necessity to cram you in cause they are running out of room.
Someone pointed out in another string that making friends with your line neighbors while sitting in traffic is useful, as they'll be your camping neighbors too. You might want to share these parking hints with them too ... then once you're in, if you all need to move your cars around a little bit to create a bigger "community" area, you've got a bit more wiggle room.
Hey this is my first bonnaroo, I'm going with 4 other people who've also never been. If we have 2 cars how much space do we get to camp? Is it possible to park crooked or something so that the campsite is a little bit larger or do they get pissed about that? Basically I just want to know is there enough room for 2 tents and a little bit extra for like chairs and stuff or is it really cramped? If this question has already been asked sorry, I wasn't able to find it. Also, has anyone brought there own portable camping toilet or used those travel john disposable urinal thingies?

Alright, so it's definitely my first year and something just crossed my mind...
Everyone always talks about a lot of people piling into one car and then camping at 'roo...but also people are talking about two-man tents. Is there room for more than one tent if you've only got one car?
I guess I just don't understand how logistically you can pile a bunch of friends in a car and still only bring one tent...OR how you get enough space to set up two tents... ???

it all depends on where you are camped...for hte most part i have always had lots of room...ive had a large tent, canopy, and like lots of outside room without getting into anyone elses space..but i knwo people who really only had room for their two person tent and their car...i just say once you park get out right away and just liek claim your land..this way the people parkling after you will know where they should go ..ya know..if this makes any sense.. -tom

I am coming to my first Roo with 20 people or so, needless to say we will have quite a few cars.can someone walk me through what goes on once we get through the gate? is there only one possible place to go if your car camping? or once your inside can you go a lot of different directions? If all of our cars stay together in line, they will be my neighbors for sure, Right? If I'm with the car in front of me, can I slow down so they have time to claim there space before they try to park me right next to them. Also If I decide to go with tent only camping, where do I park my car, and how far of a walk will it be if I have to make multiple trips? thanks for any help.....

Technically, there will probably be someone directing you where you are supposed to go. If you are getting there relatively early, when there is more space left (I guess this would mean Thursday during the day/early evening?), there will be more options, and plenty of people have said that it is relatively easy to go somewhere other than where you are directed. I always get there ~Friday morning when things are pretty filled up, and there aren't a whole lot of options, so I need the direction just to figure out where the space is.
You should definitely be able to keep cars together, but there may be some points where some diligence is required. I've never had a problem keeping groups of 3-4 cars together, but have never tried with anything bigger than that. If someone ends up getting between two cars in your group while in line or while making the way into camp (for example when two lines of cars are merging), then I think you will generally find that other cars and/or the staff will help you out and help you keep your group together. Like I said, I've never done it with a group of cars that large, and you'll have to keep on your toes with situations like merging lines, but I think you should be able to manage it. Most people there can probably relate to your desire to stay with your group.
As long as you are together in line and then you will be close to each other. We always have 4-5 cars of people... the only real problem is when you go through the gate/security there are like 4 or 5 different lanes. Get in the left hand or right hand lane (whereever there's the most space) and just wait for everyone to go through and get behind the first car. Then just merge back in with the traffic waiting to get spaces. People are usually ok with this, if you get hassled just try and work it out on the road before you turn in to the campsites (grass area). You do have to be proactive about it but its not really that much of a hassle.
Also if you have 4 cars you probably arent going to be parked like this:
||||
more like this:
|| ||
this is what the camp/park area looks like: (for the most part) H = car D = camp area
etc etc. your space is either right in front or right behind your car
what we do is as soon as the next lane of sites starts filling in we move our cars back into what would be our camping spot behind the cars. This allows us the same amount of space but all together instead of seperated by cars.
Its a little different each year though, it all comes down to chance... Just be creative, and be respectful of your neighbors
Where you park is the same whether your tent camping or not so the distance from your car to the tent area depends on wherever they park you.

In true American fashion, my group last year decided our neighbors had wmd's and we invaded in a shock and awe fashion. The frat boys next to us weren't to pleased, though. After the initial day of occupation, we just annexed the campsites and had our own little empire right there in Bonnaroo. Remember, might makes right.

We're gonna have a pretty full car and I'm not sure if our entire group will fit into one tent. Is it possible for us to set up two tents for our group?

You should be able to. My advice to you is to put up your tent as soon as you get to your parking spot. That way you'll be able to claim some space.

For instance: If your camping space is in front of your car, how much staight line distance until the next row of cars.. Say you come by yourself, how much space do you think you will get with a one car campsite? Lenth and width of campsite??

I'd say about 10'W by 15-20'L. They'll try to pack you as close as they can, but having a few extra feet between your car and the next is always doable.
