TEXT ???I was wondering if theft is a problem at the 'Roo. Do people steal things from your tent or anything??? I hate to be skeptical but i really need to be prepared for what is to come. Also is it hard to get beer if you are underaged at the Roo/ bring it in? THanks for the support!!
Theft wasn't an issue with me last year. My buddy has a digtal camera, so we brought my laptop to dump the pic on. We'll just say I wasn't with this reality and left it out once. It was still sitting on the cooler when I came back. When setting up camp or right after chat with your neighbors, make friends. They'll watch your stuff if you watch theirs. The guy two tents down from us was a cater, so he was always giving away really good food. We tried to give him money for it, or trade, but he wouldn't have any of it. Nice guy. So your pretty safe.
ya i guess the thought of security never really crossed my mind while i was out there. It is such a good vibe out there and people are (for the most part) extremely intolerant of that kind of thing. Ya i guess the best advice would be to make friends with your neighbors and use your head. Lock things up in your car if you can't afford to lose them. As for the beer thing, I would bring it with. beer is pretty spendy once you are in the gates. Just stop at walmart and have someone run in and grab you some. There where Kynd folks all over walmart last year and thats how we got our brew. but you have to settle for budweiser due to lack of selection. They will not check your ID at the gate so just play it cool and you'll be fine.
ive never had a bad problem with people stealing from our capm. the first year someone did gank our loaf of bread...and the stereo was sitting right next to it. so we wrote this of as some hungry poor folk... i wouldnt leave anything really valuable laying out...just lock it up in your car. better safe than sorry. it would suck to have a bad weekend in the unlikely event someone walked off with your laptop! (lucky you drugs)

Some folks in an Audi near us at the first 'Roo had a daytimer, PDA, and $400 taken from an UNLOCKED car.
I've never heard of someone breaking into a locked one, yet.
I'm paranoid after having my campsites ransacked at some of the last Dead shows and several Phish shows (no comment on those fans - I'm one too, but property crime seems to be my only worry hanging around the heady crowd), so I lock everything up but my tent, sleeping bag and cot.
It's a shame too, because I'd feed anyone who dropped by hungry, and would share a smoke if I had extra...
We had no problems last year, but all of our valubles were locked in the car. We were camped less than 50 yards from the entrance to the main field, so we always had peeps coming back to our site for a quick beer and jaeger shot. During Neil Young, we came back and found a $10 bill in the cooler with writing on it that said "we took you up on the offer, but wanted to give you this for the beer. Thanks" It was from 2 kids from Vancouver, B.C. that we had offered a couple Sammy's Oatmeal Stouts. They were heading in to the main stage and had said "maybe later". It is a really peaceful scene, but the bigger it gets, the more "not-so-kind" folks start attending and then we may have problems.

I remember seeing someone having a sign the first year that said that they had all their cash and credit cards stolen and other stuff. The sign also said "we don't care about the stuff, but could you please give us our credit cards back so we can get home."
My trunk also got broke in traffic by my friend, so we had to tie it with shoe strings. I saw a couple of shade balls looking in it to see what was in there, but we kept it empty. Just try to keep your doors locked when no one is by your camp.
we never had a problem with any of our stuff. Go to the luggage aisle in wal-mart (or wherever) and buy a combination luggage lock. A small one will do just fine. Throw your stuff in the tent when you leave and lock the zippers with the lock. The comination lock worked out great b/c noone was stuck waiting for the person with the key...People that steal are looking for stuff they can swipe while walking away...not many are going to work real hard to get anything...put your stuff up and anything real vauable either leave at home or lock in your car....and you should be fine... ~Lulu
My solution to this problem would be.... dont bring anything too too valuable to roo. I'm bringing my laptop but that's because of the wireless net I understand that there are certain things you HAVE to bring, so keep them locked in your glove compartment in your locked car That's my 2 cents.

We had no problem with the stuff we left out ... big coolers filled w/beer and other drinks, random packs of cigs, etc. I think we even accidentally left our MP3 player out once, and it was there when we returned. We locked up the valuables, but otherwise, all was fine, and if beer was taken, it wasn't in quantities that we noticed. Seems like a good way to go .. not tempting fate too much, but letting the people at Roo remind you that the Golden Rule is alive and kickin'.
One of the reasons Bonnaroo made such an impression on me ... the generous and open spirit of everyone I saw or encountered, and the feeling that peace and harmony isn't a blurry, far off dream. Kinda recharged my soul a bit.
