Here in eastern PA its at about 1.90. Not as bad as in some places, but prices went up .15 IN ONE WEEK. seriously! I'm sure glad were getting all that cheap oil from Iraq. (sarcasm)
yes, this is an increase, and yes, it hurts. but the united states still has the lowest gas prices compared to nearly every other nation in the world, and we use the most gas (much less public transportation use, suburb life = the need for a car, giant gas guzzling cars). just to put things in a bit of perspective.

Actually the cost of the gasoline (not the taxes added on) is about the same around the world, with fluctuations due to seasonal travel, refinery problems, etc.
The real reason our gas is cheaper is due to not taxing the living sh*t out of it like Europe does. They instituted social change with taxes, but you can drive from the tip of Italy to Northern France in under 18 hours. Most places in America (not on the coasts) require a person to own a car to even be able to get to a main city.
