What is the situation with camel backs.....can we bring them in if they are empty and then we fill them with the factory sealed water bottles? it is just a lot easier to hold on to everything if it is on your back. Anyone who knows and can help me out, it would be appreciated.
Last year I carried mine in no problem. Mine looks like a backpack though, so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it. I never had any problems getting in with anything. I carried in a few cans of red bull and no one said anything to me. I saw people trying to carry in beer and such and they had to ditch it. It's a crap shoot in all honesty, some of the people checking would get antsy if you had an open water bottle that you had refilled. Depends on the person I guess.
I was wondering about those Camelbacks? Does the water inside get pretty hot from the relentless (can't wait to be in it from here in NY) Tennesee sun? I was thinking about investing in one, but am not sure if they are worth the price for such a hot atmosphere like Bonnaroo? Any input on how they might work or what a good one might be would be much appreciated.
Keep your water bottles cold before you go into the show and keep an ice pack as cold as you can get it inside the camelback next to the bladder. When you get in just pour your water bottles in the bladder and enjoy. The camel backs are not great at keeping water cold on their own, but they definitely don't get the water hot like a solar shower does. They sell the ice packs that you break like a glow stick and they get cold, although I've never tried one.
I know I was definatly planning on carrying my camelback around...This is my first year at roo, so I guess you cant carry drinks into centeroo? Im not sure...But Im definatly taking mine just in case I can get away with it, it would be worth it. As long as the water is cold when it goes in, it shouldnt get too terribly warm unless it sits there most of the day, but I imagine that since it will be pretty hot in tenn. I will drink it before it has time to get real warm. I encourage anyone to take a camelback, they are a very good investment, I love mine.
You can carry the camel back in as long as its empty. But you can pretend its empty by having the valve shut off and showing the security that no water is coming out. My buddy did that last year. They are awesome. I have a camel back rocket pack. It is definitley small enough to have under my shirt until i get in. It great to be able to dance around and still have 2 liters of water with you.
And those going in a Rv. Try freezing your bladder before using it ; )

Does anyone know how to make a camelback? I have a great backpack and would love to just add things onto it to make it a camelback. Where would I get the hyrdation pack and mout piece?
You can get the bladder and mouthpiece at any camping/outdoors store. A lot of bike shops that sell mountain bikes have them too....they are around 25-30 bucks.

Thanks for the info. I was at Sam's Club this morning and I saw an entire camelback for $29. It may be best economically for me to just buy a camelback.
Another question, where would I find ice packs that I can break like glo sticks? At a grocery store?
I picked up a Camelbak after all of your suggestions on this list, one of the ones that makes a kind of daypack along with the bladder (Camelbak M.U.L.E), and I have to say it is one of the best investments I have made in a while.
We went camping a couple weeks ago with it and now wonder why I didn't get one long ago. I know it'll keep my lady and I in hydration a lot easier this year. Last year she didn't do so well. Thanks for the suggestions and info all. I appreciate it much.

If you are looking to save some money and get the same quality as a camelback, go with a Platypus. They have a bladder I guess its called that you fill and just screw the mouth piece attachment on and pop it in your backpack. Also leaves more room for suncreen, camera, etc...

My friend brought a camel back last year. It came in really handy but the water got pretty hot. But to tell you the truth, when you're really really tired and thirsty from dancing around and stuff, you don't really even notice the hotness...all you know is that it's WATER!!!! ;D

I got my camel back in last year with no problem. I took it in full of water. My bladder is in a compartment by my back so I think that helped. I filled it up with mostly ice and some water and went to the shows for the day and it stayed cold for the whole time.

i went and bought one today, and i'm so excited about it! honestly, even if the water gets a little warm in the pack, it's still better than hiking through crowds to stand in line for 30 minutes for a $6 bottle of water. especially when you've been dancin' your ass off all day!

If you fill the camel back up with mostly ice and a little water it stays cold pretty much all day. Camel Backs rock and you will love it for when you are hiking besides getting tons of use out of it at festivals.
