Can we please come up with a solution to stop these discussions about which thread to lock every time a major festival thread is made?
It has always been whichever thread is first following the lineup drop is the thread. Are we changing the rules now?
First is good in theory but it starts a whole other thing like here where we have two threads for the 2019 festival when the 2018 festival is months away.

I didn't see any outcry when somebody who didn't like Hangout made the thread title for them a few years ago. Or the Gov Ball one below. But now we are going to demand the rules be changed for this one? Interesting.

Maybe there should be designated people that can open up threads for major fests. :rofl:
I think a standard of “maybe the OP should be someone who doesn’t spend all year trolling the thread/festival/corporate conglomerate that owns the festival” is pretty straightforward. But also all in on just letting itrainmonkeys create all the festival threads

It's been going on for some time now, and I try to mostly stay out of things. It's just getting to the point where it's annoying me now. I am sure the mods are getting tired of having to delete/merge/lock threads all the time. I don't have a ton of investment in what the actual solution is. I started one for Muddy Roots and either me or garageland start one for Big Ears every year. If the mods would rather or they would like to assign them or whatever, it doesn't matter to me. I'm not going to lose sleep over not being able to start those threads and maintain the OP.

I think few years ago there were not any stupid competition of "I opened up this thread first" "No, I did it first, lock up the other one". People just opened up threads and then the discussion carried on there.
But it changed a bit the last few months because of some people are somehow dying to be the first to open the thread and/or don't care if another person opened one etc etc.

I've got it!
We create two separate threads. One that ranks potential posters who would open threads. The other ranks festivals that are most important. We use those to create lists of posters and festivals. The posters are all then entered into a draft where they pick festivals that they will be responsible for.
