In a rush to be first, these lists will be forgotten by January.
Paste likes to go list-crazy through December, but I feel like the album list should be the finale. These publications have basically decided that the musical year ends halfway through November

Historically, the point of doing these lists in November was so people would go out and buy CDs as Christmas gifts. Now that that’s not a thing anymore, I don’t know why they still do it.

Agreed, reminds me of the odd time period the Grammys use for awards consideration. I prefer the Academy Awards old-fashioned way of counting a year as Jan 1-Dec 31, but that may be crazy talk these days.

True, which makes sense for the record label lists. These other lists rush to get first for clicks, methinks.
People like to rip on the RS lists, but I agree with Strawman that it's not that bad. RS throws a couple bones every year, for sure. It's almost like a formula pretty much where 3-4 albums get token top 20 slots.
Pop smash that's seriously overrated: Taylor, check.
Pop star that's sorta indie and about 30 slots too high on the list: Carly Rae Jepsen last year, Kesha this year.
New album by a classic rock icon: Springsteen and U2 pretty much any time they drop something.

I’m just tired of people putting albums on lists that aren’t publicly available yet. If you’re gonna put it in there then make sure the damn thing is out first.
CoS' attempt at "edginess" was including 5 film scores and snubbing Bjork, Tyler, Big Thief, and FJM. I love Ryan Adams but that album probably won't make my top 50
I've highlighted your highlights. If you don't at least include Tyler and FJM in your TOP FIFTY, then your list is dead to me.
Pure Comedy wasn't that good. I can think of fifty albums that I would put on a list before I got around to PC.
Lorde? Really? That’s a pretty generic group of names, COS.
I will say the majority of these lists suit the publication quite well.

to be fair, those scores are really good, and FJM & Big Thief aren't very good.
The big joke of Rolling Stone's list is U2's album - which is out next week - being on the list, but Bjork - whose album is out already - isn't on the list. Rolling Stone hasn't published a review of the former yet, but gave the latter 4 stars.
The other big joke is Sam Smith, who is fucking terrible
U2's album is essentially out. Anyone with an Internet connection can listen to it if they want. I'm guessing Rolling Stone has had a copy for long enough to come to some kind of conclusion about it.
And while I've only heard certain songs and am waiting for Spotify, U2 fans are over the moon about it, saying it's their favorite since Achtung! Baby and stuff. I like what I've heard, for the most part. Little Things is an instant classic U2 song. They were closing shows on the Joshua Tree tour with it.

Doesn't change the fact that the magazine hasn't reviewed it or that Bjork's album has been out / accessible longer and has been reviewed
(And it's not as if she's someone RS tends to snub)
There's not enough praise for Mount Eerie, Tyler The Creator, Planetarium, Mac DeMarco, Daniel Ceasar, Roger Waters, Slowdive, Arca... in these lists, wtf happend with those albums? Half of those lists are mainstream shitty albums. I litteraly don't understand. Might have to check out Kesha's album because I didn't know she had a new one out..
Oh yeah, Frank Ocean confirmed he has a new album ready! Might be for 2018 but I'm thinking it's gonna drop in a few weeks..

Planetarium in particular has been getting royally snubbed. I get that some of instrumental tracks might be disposable but that album is damn gorgeous

Sounds to me like they left Bjork off purposefully. It's a bad call, but I'm less surprised than you are, I guess.
