I really don’t know which is the best of the last 20 minutes to me: this list or the Hangout 2018 line-up.
Spoiler: they are both hot garbage.
At least Hangout has St. Vincent.
Rough Trade has Aldous at number 1. I love that album and even I think that’s ridiculous. They really should rename that list to “100 records that came out in 2017 that we like (no order)”.

Keep em coming! I'm stalling on homework so I'm putting all these in a spreadsheet with points assigned similarly to how we did the all-time albums list.. It'll be interesting to see what artists end up on a large variety of lists (Kendrick, probably)

Although November still isn't over, magazines presenting their lists feels like they just want to be the first one with theirs ready, just for the purpose and the publicity of it... Are you guys doing your own list thing aswell in a few weeks, or how does it work?

Agreed. Any lists put out before the end of the year seem so pointless to me, but I guess this has become an industry where November-November or mid December-mid December counts as a year.

I mean I get when albums like Run The Jewels 'RTJ3" don't make a certain list because it came out so late.. But it's just lazy and stupid. As if there isnt coming any good worth mentioning music out anymore in November/December. Might, as a band/artist, just wait for your record till January for putting it out.. Bit of a shame. Pitchfork is most of the time spot on with their lists tho.. + I do think these articles / lists (whatever) will soon be forgotten because they came out so early .. in comparison to the more established musicblogs/magazines

Yup. Nov 11th. Enough time to have made a 2017 list had they not done it before Thanksgiving. These are mostly marketing tools used to get clicks first and to “help” buyers on Black Friday (or the ilk), imo.

I thought that sleaford mods album was absolutely trash. My notes for that album say "low first simple post pink beats arent bad. The cockney English rapping so bad it should be satire, but it's not."

It’s sad as I typically like Sleaford Mods but this album isn’t strong whatsoever. When I see it listed I feel like they should have a) Dug deeper b) stop trying to be “relevant”.
