Solid album so far. Feet Don't Fail > The Way You Used To morph into each other so smoothly. That final song is a killer. I wish didn't end so abruptly once the distortion kicks in. Most of this album would be great live.
So I assume they headline tier 2 fests and are 2nd liners at Coachella, Lolla, ACL?

I loved the track "Medication" thanks to my SSX On Tour play sessions in my early days, but I tried listening to the "Lullabies to Paralyze" album but did not dig it too much. Where would be a better place to start with them?

Songs For The Deaf is their best imo, but it's more abrasive, less cleaned up, more garagey. ...Like Clockwork is probably a good place to start if you're more into good cleaned up rock and roll.

I think their headlining status could go either way with some fests. I don't think they'd headline Gov Ball or Hangout, maybe Boston Calling. I expect them to headline Shaky Knees.
I hope they whore themselves out. Only listened once, but it's already one of my favorite albums of the year. It's Homme's best work since TCV. Ronson was a good fit. Really felt like he helped trim the fat.

Agreed. I think general, mainstream multi-genre fests they won't headline but more rock driven, eclectic fests they should be easily penciled in. FYF? Panorama? VooDoo? They have performed at Hangout before so maybe #4 for them. Id hope.
Album Rankings: Songs for the Deaf Rated R (on certain days, this is my favorite album) Villains (this may climb as I listen more) Them Crooked Vultures - Side project with Dave Grohl, John Paul Jones (fuck it, Ill include it) Era Vulgaris Lullabies to Paralyze Like Clockwork
Self Titled (I didn't realize this existed so I can't rank yet)

I was once walking down a street in Philly passing by the Electric Factory Venue and saw the neon lights for "Them Crooked Vultures." I said to myself "What a stupid fuckin band name....who would see them???"
A week later I find out who it was and never had a chance to see them again. ***Insert moral of the story***

Lullabies is great though so
I'll check them both out, thanks! I tend to prefer the garagey style, but we'll see what I end up enjoying most.

Hopefully JPJ isn't super old by the time Queens and FF finish this next album stent.

Do people really like this THAT much more than ...Like Clockwork? I thought Clockwork was a masterpiece, and this is definitely on that level. Agree that Ronson helped this one a lot.
I'm shocked anyone likes Era Vulagris. The best song on it was an already-released Desert Sessions song.
Sick, Sick, Sick, Into the Hollow, Make it Wit Chu, 3's and 7's, and Into the Hollow are great and are all highlights at live shows. It's a good album.
Edit: not great, but those songs are staples

Eh. Compared to the rest of their catalog, it's pretty bad. I'd rather hear almost any song from the first album, especially Regular John, Mexicola, Avon, How to Handle a Rope, Mexicola, You Can't Quit Me Baby and Mexicola.

Turning the screw and misfit love also. It's certainly not their best but it's better than anyone here is giving credit for
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

I want to put Rated R and even Lullabies ahead of SFTD sometimes, but I think you just can't. SFTD is basically a perfect album. The only track I don't adore is The Sky is Fallin'. That one gets a little repetitive. It's still pretty good, though.
Personal favorite deep(er) cut: Hanging Tree. I'm sure that's nothing novel, but I love that song.
Rated R is great, too. I especially like the tracks where Nick sang lead on that one. And Better Living through Chemistry.
Lullabies, too. God that band was on such a roll before Era Vulgaris.
This was a great DVD from the Lullabies to Paralyze tour. Really great couple of shows, with the inclusion of The Fun Machine Took a Shit and Died (49:43). That song is a classic, but was only ever released on a limited vinyl, on this DVD, and some single that came with Era Vulgaris pre-orders, afaik. It would've been the best song on that album, were it included.
There were also bonus features that included this performance of The Bronze:
They've been on the road in Europe promoting and doing acoustic shows but they just did surprise sets at Reading and Leeds in the same day today (or yesterday? fuck it. time isnt even real.)
It's just it's so hard to rate music from a band who consistently puts out an amazing product. First time I saw them was a little festival set in 2002 I think maybe 2003 in philly. Barely a few weeks after grohl stopped touring with them and Joey came on board. Mark lanegan sang a few songs too. Insanely loud and badass. A set at bonnaroo is long overdue

First Tier - Songs for the Deaf, Rated R Second Tier - ...Like Clockwork, Lullabies to Paralyze Third Tier - Queens of the Stone Age Fourth Tier - Era Vulgaris
Top 3 songs on each album, in order:
Queens of the Stone Age - If Only, Regular John, Give the Mule What He Wants Rated R - In the Fade, Better Living Through Chemistry, Feel Good Hit of Summer Songs for the Deaf - A Song for the Deaf, A Song for the Dead, Hangin' Tree Lullabies to Paralyze - Someone's in the Wolf, Tangled Up in Plaid, Burn the Witch Era Vulgaris - Suture Up Your Future, Into the Hollow, Make It Witchu ...Like Clockwork - I Appear Missing, My God is the Sun, I Sat By the Ocean
I Appear Missing, A Song for the Deaf, and In the Fade are their three best songs overall, I think.
I haven't listened to Villains enough to rank it, but it's very good. I'd probably say Tier 2, maybe Tier 3. Those albums move around a bit for me. 1, 2 and 6 are all pretty solidly locked in.
