Not sure where else to post this, but I've been cataloging the top albums of the year on critic lists in a Google Sheets spreadsheet and it's been pretty fun (because data entry is relaxing for me and I'm weird I know). I'm using a scoring system similar to what Cokes used for the All-Time favorite albums list, and you can check it out here if you want: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AsQhRM8bixH5s52StN7q9CcqSfEieNO0dFvcqVAzP38/edit#gid=0
Anyway, I'd love to do the same specifically for lists created by Inforoo users!! Tbh, I trust opinions on here more than I do those of most critics. Most of the lists on here seem to be in preliminary, but if you mark your list as being the final version I'd love to add them to a new Google Sheet and share the results
EDIT: #blessed that this landed at the top of the page
EDIT 2: This would be a totally distinct thing separate from the end of year tournament

Yeah, that sounds cool! I'm making my list right now (is taking a while tho) Top 50 per person? I can't imagine that everyone can come up with 100 albums.. Even 50 might be a big task, idk I'm only suggesting.

I'll say max of 100 but any size would work! The longer your list is the more points your top albums are worth, so if that creates an incentive then go for it. My own list will be 40

I'm not sure what method you are planning to use, but any consensus ranking that gives more weight to larger lists isn't really very rigorous. For example, I have a spreadsheet of 330+ albums I listened to this year. I could easily skew the consensus rankings by just including all those albums. the final pooled results wouldn't really be representative of the sample rankings. there are better ways to do consensus rankings from multiple ranked data sources that equally weights the responses. there is still some incentive to create longer lists though actually, because it creates a better rank distribution for the different albums (i.e.: less noisy) across samples.

I'd been planning to give 1 point for the bottom album on the list, and then increasing by a point each album until the final got 50 or 100 or however many albums long the list is.
What might be a better way to weight responses? I'm certainly no expert here, and am open to suggestions!

if you collect all the data on a spreadsheet, I'll run the stats for you.
I can do it at work and look like im doing actual work.

god, due to some *developments*, i decided that i needed to take some albums off of my own list and now im having trouble replacing them. i swore to myself i would't put plunge on there because i had already written an article about how it got me through a difficult time and i wanted to avoid bias, but im not so sure now...

Great list! Lots of crossover with mine and also lots of stuff to check out
Out of my own curiosity, what puts Saturation I so far ahead of II for you?

Saturation I immediately clicked with me, it felt like such a consistent 'banger after banger' kind of album whereas Saturation II needed a few listens, but they're both insanely great and consistent albums. Out of 245 albums, this is literally the best of the best where I had scrap a lot of albums I liked. Compare it with giving I a 8,5 and II an 8 or something, you see?

I think this is the first year I've tried to listen to as many new albums as possible, and thanks to the nature of my old job, I had plenty of time to catch most of the releases. 2017 has been an interesting year for me with its ups and downs (thankfully mostly ups!), and these releases have soundtracked my life as I grew old. Comparing this year with previous ones, I can say my taste has shifted slightly as I listen to more experimental stuff now. This doesn't mean I don't listen to pop or indie rock anymore, it's just that I am more open to all types of music recently and if it's good, I've tried to include it here. Some genres are not represented as much though, such as free music, "world music", and jazz. Hopefully, I will spend more time listening to those and have a more balanced AOTY list next year.
Also, I know there are still 8 days before this year is over, but unless there is a surprise drop, there are not any new releases that I'm excited about. Firstly, I'm sharing my honorable mentions that couldn't make top 100. Releases from Four Tet, The National, Fever Ray, SZA, Mount Kimbie, etc. are also in my HM list, but I'm not including them, and mainly focusing on releases that I think are underrated and mostly underrepresented in AOTY lists.

Pretty sure I know less than half these albums. Which is about what I was expecting
I hope you find something you like among those you don't know. If I'm guessing correctly, releases from Carmen Villain, Demen, Rose Elinor Dougall, and Esmerine might be up your alley. If you haven't checked them already, of course.

How many albums did you listen in total? Because with 245 I checked out throughout this year, selecting 100 would merely mean that I would give the best half of what I listened to a spot in a list which I just couldn't do. What's your opinion about that? Susanne Sundfør, Ex Ey and Mario Batkovic were on my 'to do list'-note but I've never actually found time to listen to them. And I really should. That's the sad part a bit imo, you're always going to miss certain releases even though you're already checking out 90% of what a normal human listens to throughout the year. And by the end of the year you see albums in lists and you think to yourself 'man, I should've listened to this' or 'oh, didn't know that came out!'. Freudian was also around 50-65 in my list, really underrated album but didn't make the cut. Great list and a good lot of albums I haven't listened to
edit: No Brockhampton at all?

I don't have a sheet for the albums I've checked (I will have one for 2018), but I've tried to listen to most of the new releases every week (I mean, at least those I'm interested), so roughly it should be somewhere around 350-400 Thus it was easier to pick 100 or so from a list of 350+. Having said that, if I couldn't find 100 albums that I actually liked, I wouldn't have a list of 100 for sure.
All 3 of those albums are great and I was lucky enough to see Susanne and Ex Eye live this year. This definitely helped them have higher rankings, both performances were amazing and much better than I could imagine. I really wanna catch Mario Batkovic one day for sure, I heard his performance at LGW? was great.
And yes, there are still plenty of albums I didn't spend much time with, and some I've seen in the lists but couldn't even listen to yet. It's never ending, and I accepted that I cannot fully appreciate all the albums that are being released since it's an impossible task.
I've included Saturation III, and Saturation II is in my HM list (in the part that I didn't share). Saturation I didn't do much for me.
And thanks, I hope you can find some albums you enjoy!

Fair enough and probs for checking out so many albums. Tbh.. I could've probably gone to LGW? this year but every time I checked that line up I was kind of meh, I didn't really recognize a lot of stuff and it felt rather empty.. But when the schedule came out.. Damn. And after this year of getting to know for example GAS, Ben Frost, Sevdaliza, Mount Eerie, Thurston Moore etc, I feel like I might actually try it hah
