The xx is so great. I had high hopes for Gone is Gonw but it is pretty boring. I like Code Orange a lot. The xx is still my fav.
Code Orange is at the top of my list so far. I'll admit it's my first time ever listening to them but it's a neat record.
Still lots to listen to though. Hoping to give the xx a listen today.
this is my first time as well. I liked heavier music a lot in my youth and it's slowly been growing on me again. So this has been awesome. They kinda remind me of a band I used to love back then.
I like the new xx, I don't love it. Perhaps it will grow on me. But honestly that's how I've felt about the previous The xx albums too. Enjoy them, don't absolutely love them. Give me Jamie xx any day.
Still need to give Bonobo a proper listen, had it on in the background the other day. And still need to hear Ty Segall as well.
I've listened to this xx album twice. It's just fine. There's so much goddamn romantic brooding. The production is great, but three albums of essentially the same thing just isn't my cup of tea anymore. My lady made an excellent point: if you kind of drown out the singing, like looking at a painting and un-focusing your eyes, it sounds great.
I won't lie to myself anymore: If I'm looking past their voices to enjoy it, that probably means I just don't enjoy it.
I agree with this. It's a good album, great production, good vocals, all of the stuff you'd expect from them, but a few listens have left me pretty bored.
So far for me Bonobo is leading, but still waiting for Migos and Japandroids.

It's stressing me out knowing all the amazing albums that are coming out this year, and how not a lot of them are coming in the first quarter. Like, I think a great album could be coming at like a rate of 2 a week starting in April.
I know we tend to fluff Ty Segall around here. I know this. But I'm thinking this one might be January's winner.
I mean, when emotional Mugger came out, I didn't like it as much as I wanted to, but it grew on me. I think all the praise he gets around d here is more than justified, and if anything, he's not fluffed enough. More musicians should produce music at the rate and emotion he does. With the last 2 Fuzz albums,Manipulator, Sleeper, Slaughterhouse, Twins and now this, he's put out some fucking great music in the last 5 years. And his live show has only gotten better.
Edit: I imagine Boner scheduling an appointment now to get the lyrics for North, East, South, West tattooed on his back.
. To find room I'd probably have to cover the existing tattoo of the lyrics to "Fireworks" by the hip, and I could get locked up for such a thing. But it's a nice Canadian song nonetheless
