I maintain that Coloring Book is the most overrated album of the year by far.
I was gonna make a "you spelled [insert name of different overrated album] wrong" joke, but I pretty much think all the major releases this year sucked (Beyonce, Frank Ocean, Kanye). I like Coloring Book a fair amount though.

I'm just not into this "more is more" style of record making we were getting this year. All these 90 minute opuses with 45 different movements from 85 producers that tackled the biggest issues of our day just ended up being fucking tedious and exhausting.

I liked all 4 of those albums. I probably have bad tastes though.
I am waiting until December 99th and Childish Gambino come out to form my year end list. I know you guys will just be dying with anticipation.
Bino's album should be good. I'm not gung-ho about what I've heard so far but I feel like it's going to be one of those things where I need to hear them in context.
Either way, I look forward to your year-end list. =)

I liked the high-placing nod to Car Seat Headrest on the Rolling Stone's list. But they also completely snubbed Whitney and .Paak, and Kaytranada - which makes zero sense to me.
Also definitely never caught the memo that Lemonade was this year's TPAB ...

Side note: I can't wait for some people here to see the CoS list
Not only did they awkwardly shoehorn in Gojira's Magma at 33 (it's easily Gojira's worst record, and half of it is complete garbage), they hilariously referred to Gojira's past work as "death metal." Gojira has never been a death metal band, at all.
Other than that (and the bizarre decision to rank that trash Babymetal album at all - CoS should stay the fuck away from metal because they have absolutely no clue what they're doing), it's actually not terrible, for them.
I actually loved Gojira's album. That being said I don't know shit about metal and this is the first year I've listened to a metal album in several years. Any recent recommendations from the past couple years? More easily accessible ish would be better. I have listened to both of Deafheaven's albums, Gojira, Deftones, and several albums more associated with hardcore and I guess emo (Norma Jean, ETID, Thrice, Touché Amoré)

Paste's list is fairly in line with my taste. No Kaytranada is the biggest issue. I'd have Bon Iver and Kanye a little lower, but in terms of what was included, it's got almost all of my picks.

This list is great - relief from the snubs and poor placing of the other lists. Especially like/agree with Beyonce getting bumped to number 2 on this one. Placing of a lot of other albums (Coloring Book, Blonde, We got it from here) seems way more accurate than the other lists as well.
Plus they included .Paak and the Avalanches. Big improvement from the other lists.

LOL did Paste really put albums by Lucius, Lacy Dacus, Andrew Bird, Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, Sam Beam, and Lake Street Dive in the top 50? Never change, Paste.
Kinda shocked Jill Stein's album reissue didn't make the top 5.
