Trying to curb my addiction. I've been hitting in the low triple digits these past 3-4 years (averaging about 110). Now that I'm engaged trying to push that number back to 70-80 but it's hard living in NYC and wanting to see everyone multiple times (the album release surprise show, the festival date, both tour legs, etc.) Can anyone else here try to support my thinking that I'm normal?
Depends on if you count individual shows at festivals. If so I definitely break 100 by the end of the year. However I have gone to 4 festivals this year and have one more planned. Never been to this many in one year and it's been the best year of my life so far.
I see about 100-125 sets a year. 25-30 at Roo, another 15-20 at Pilgrimage, then Nashville has Live on the Green. And the rest I scalp tickets for, so I don't pay more than 20 bucks to see anyone.

Probably used to go to to 30 or so a year, but now I'm at 15 at most.
I used to go a lot when I first started going to shows, but I realized I needed to scale it back to focus on quality over quantity. I kept getting bored during a lot of shows and began to even question if I could enjoy shows anymore. After scaling it back and focusing on artists I really like, I've enjoyed them so much more.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
I did about 55 last year plus 4 festivals. I get into a lot of those for free through press and such. This year so far has been lighter, but I have a lot lined up for the fall, so I should end up around a similar number, if not a little higher.

Started to notice that as well. I noticed for a lot of the more "indie folk" type shows, I end up getting bored and waiting for the set to be over (Band Of Horses, The Head And The Heart, etc.) so I've dropped a lot of those bands from the roster. Also, I was seeing everyone EVERY time they came to the area so my calendar would get booked up way in advance which wouldn't leave any room for those last minute pop-up shows or new artists I wanted to check out.
Before I started saving for a house this year and stopped buying, I used to go to probably about 75-100 shows/year and then 4-6 festivals. I have only gone to over 20 shows this year and 3 festivals so far, but I have two more festivals that I will be going to and only 2 more shows this year. But that is it (besides festivals) until we buy a house, then I will be back to my constant show going.
I go to 1-2 festivals, see about 20 or so national acts, and probably catch local acts about another 25 times a year. But when I see local acts, it's usually on Frenchmen or somewhere with numerous venues so I'll see 3-5 in a night. And that includes smaller local fests that happen every week where there are multiple acts and stages. No clue on the total number of sets I see in a year.
Last year I saw 118 individual artists/bands between individual shows and festivals. Not counting double sets.
This year, so far, I've seen 26 acts, over 17 shows.

Pretty sure this has been my least active year in at least 4 years or so. It's also the first year since 2007 that I haven't done a camping festival. It's depressing. The only fest I'm doing this year is ACL, and even that's TBD because it's the weekend of midterms.
I will say that this year j have made up for quantity with quality. Tool with Primus, The Cure, New Order... Not too shabby.

This thread is making me realize that I need do a much better job at keeping track of the shows I see. :/ I think I've been to about 30 so far in 2016, not counting Bonnaroo or BSMF, but that's a total shot in the dark. By the end of the year, I'll probably have 50 under my belt. But, I have a solid ticket hookup at the best mid-size venue here in STL, so that helps. I'd be at about 20-25 without that.

Concert Archives is great for keeping track of shows.
It's strange trying to strike a balance between doing too many shows to the point you don't enjoy them as much, and then not doing enough that you feel kind of sad. I know this has been an issue for me. If I don't do any shows or festivals for over a month, I do notice my overall mood starts to go down a bit. July and August are usually the worst because it's a month after Bonnaroo, but I usually don't have anything planned around that time. But then there are months where I do too many shows, and I start to miss the innocence of experiencing a concert or festival for the first time. So sometimes it's hard for me to find that balance. If I did as many shows as you though, I know I'd be very numb to the experience. I'd have to be working in the music industry at that point and not just a fan to get any sort of enjoyment out of live music. That being said, I think I've been focusing just on festivals this year. I've done three major festivals (Buku, Shaky Knees, Bonnaroo, and last day of Gov Ball before it got cancelled) and two smaller ones (Slingshot and Wrecking Ball). I've only gone to two shows outside of a festival, which is unusual for me. I want to make Music Midtown happen just for the sake of getting one last festival in before the year is over and I have three more shows I'm definitly going to.

I've noticed a lot of bands and rappers fall flat live, so I'll just skip them unless I know their show is gonna be awesome.

I keep track on my phone. Everytime I go to a show I just add it to my "2016 Shows" note. At the end of the year I transfer the list to an excel spreadsheet. It's made easier with my new laptop now too because my iPhone notes sync with Notes on my Mac. Which is convenient.
I didn't start keeping track until 2014. My biggest piece of advice to people who just started going to concerts is to keep track of who you've seen somehow. It's kinda cool be able to look back on it.

I have never even heard of this. Where the hell have I been? This is amazing. Thanks!

I average around 50 to 60 headline shows a year and a handful of festivals. I'd love to bump that number up a little more, but I enjoy my quiet time at night too.
I seem to be similar to a lot of others on here...about 15-20 a year plus 2-3 festivals. The majority being in the spring and summer, then once September hits, I drop it down to once or twice a month so I can start putting that money towards Christmas and then saving for next Bonnaroo. I do get serious FOMO when I sacrifice something I wanted to go to though and it sucks so much. I'm also 38 with two teenagers, so most of the people I know are other moms and only go to about 3 shows a year. I couldn't live with myself.
Working at a restaurant has always severely limited the number of shows I can see. If I close the store I'm not out of there until past 10. I envy you folks seeing so many shows a year.

That's my summer life. I stick to fests and a couple bigger shows. Then once I'm at school I hit up a bunch of concerts
2006 was when I started going to Bonnaroo so that led to a healthy increase. Travel is a big obstacle for me to see shows so I can't imagine how I'd function if I lived in a place where the music I listen to came to me. I take about 15-20 concert/festival trips annually with the average distance traveled around 250 miles roundtrip. Main destinations are Louisville and Cincinnati but hit Columbus, Indianapolis and Nashville a few times a year and occasionally will go further for very special events. My music library contains albums by 307 artists of which I have seens shows by 178 of them. These shows represent 342/513 albums by artists in my collection.
Next year will mark 20 years since my first concert so I'm considering making it a banner year and trying to hit the 500 shows mark if I can.
