A thread for music recommendations. If you want to hear more like a certain song or band, or if you aren't sure where to start with a certain band/artist. I know people ask about stuff like this in a bunch of other threads that it doesn't really pertain to, so it seemed deserving of it's own place here!
To start, can someone tell me how to listen to Television?

Find the vinyl and drop the needle or look it up on Spotify, then probably with some really good headphones or some speakers.
But seriously, start with Marquee Moon when you can actively listen to it. it came out when punk was taking off in New York but it uses a lot of Jazzy sort of counter Melody guitar lines which was pretty new for that time. The title track is phenomenal.

Ya Elevation randomly popped up on my discover playlist earlier and I loved the guitar on it which made me want more. Thanks for the advice, Marquee Moon definitely seems like the way to go.

All Television is good Television, but Marquee Moon is one of the greatest albums of all time. Desert island album, easily. Those interweaving guitars, that virtuosic precision and that so-punk-we-were-punk-before-punk-existed attitude.... mmmmmfff.
My first thought is cloud nothings. They're a bit more raw and noisy, with fewer hooks but still pretty similar. Start with attack on memory.
If you like the sing along choruses and riffs, with a more punk edged classic rock sound, check out the hold steady. I'd say start with separation Sunday (a concept album) or boys and girls in America. Lyrical storytellers.
Titus andronicus sits kinda between those two, punky indie that put out an expansive concept album last year.
If you like the guitar drum punky duo thing, I'd say check out No Age.
If you just want some awesome garage punk stuff that is a bit older, check out Jay Reatard. More abrasive but worth checking out and probably a bit underrated. Plus I grew up in Memphis I'd be remiss if I didn't plug him here.
My Aim Is True was my planned starting point cause I recognize that cover. I'll do that and then work through the rest of these suggestions. Thanks y'all.
There was a girl I dated towards the end of college, and our song was "Absolutely Cuckoo". I think we both knew it wasn't going to work out. Still love that song.
Elvis Costello's discography is daunting. What should I listen to?
I'm probably one of the most pro-Elvis Costello people here, so I'm gonna take a crack at this
You listen to the first three albums in order. Repeat a few times. These are the most important three, by a wide margin, so really dig in deep.
Then you listen to Get Happy!! and Trust a couple of times each.
Skip Almost Blue.
Next, get into Imperial Bedroom for a while. Let that one marinate on its own for a few weeks.
Skip Punch the Clock, but listen to "Everyday I Write the Book" a bunch.
Skip Goodbye Cruel World for now. You might want to come back later, but it's not necessary.
Then take a month and listen to The Band and Billy Bragg records.
Then come back and listen to King of America frequently and with great attention.
Give Blood & Chocolate a spin, if you like it, keep it around, if you don't, don't worry about it.
Listen to Spike a few times, there's some good stuff on there.
Skip everything he put out in the 1990s, except maybe Painted from Memory, the record he did with Burt Bacharach, if that appeals to you. Listen to the 2009 reissue of Live at the El Mocambo instead.
Skip everything he put out in the 2000s except The River in Reverse and Momofuku.
Go back and listen to the first three albums again.

I haven't gotten around to listening to him yet but this seems helpful when I finally do, thanks!
