Still Brazy Malibu Untitled Unmastered TLOP No, My Name Is Jeffery Coloring Book Yes Lawd Atrocity Exhibition Daniel Son, Necklace Don Islah The Sun's Tirade Savage Mode
Those are all good to great albums IMO. Still haven't listened to Denzel Curry or Skepta's albums but I've heard those were good too
I love YG, but Still Brazy was uneven. Same with Coloring Book and TLOP, both of which had their moments (and some ridiculous highs), but weren't strong enough overall. I liked Untitled Unmastered, but I just didn't find myself returning to it that often. Same with Danny Brown, who I actually like a lot, but his newest just didn't connect with me. The new Young Thug was meh, Isiah Rashad is like an off-brand Kendrick Lamar, 21 Savage is straight up garbage. Same for Gates and Curry.
As for Paak, Malibu probably just missed the cut for me, which isn't a big deal as I only listed like 10 albums. And I love the fuck out of every single thing NxWorries has done, but seeing as how Yes Lawd has been out all of 30 seconds, it didn't make the list that I wrote three days ago.
Nice try, though. If I'm just listing off rap albums that I liked this year, I'd toss in YG, Kendrick, Kanye and Chance, plus Anderson. Paak. Kaytranada is one of my favorite albums this year, I know some people consider it hip hop, I don't necessarily, but whatever. Westside Gunn put out probably my favorite straight up rap record of the year, plus Elzhi and Royce had good efforts. Schoolboy Q was solid, too.
Never heard of Westside Gunn but I'll give him a listen. The De La Soul album had its moments too

Random thought: Most overrated album's of the year in your opinion
Bon Iver's album seemed way to scattered and had no flow or pay off to me. James Blake's was decent but christ it could have been half as long (I have no problem with long albums as long as they're good throughout). Chance's album had some songs I really enjoy on it like Same Drugs, No Problem, Smoke Break, Blessings, and All Night as a party song. Rufus Du Sol's album is house music for people who don't like house music in my eyes. I can totally see the appeal to others, but every song is too slow or just kind of boring. It's like Bob Moses on Melatonin.
How can Rufus Du Sol be overrated when it's barely even rated?
Every 18-25 year old in Southern California are fucking obsessed with them and I just don't get it. I don't know where you are from so there could be differences among regions. But in California it is ridiculously hyped up.

I dunno, I like them and I like Bloom. I was mostly talking about critical acclaim though.

I don't pay much attention to what critics have to say, but I understand the confusion. I was basing it off of what the people around me seem to love.

I'd hardly say that. It was the #1 album here, utterly inescapable during the first half of the year, and it just picked up a bunch of ARIA nominations a couple weeks ago. It's elevated them to near-headliner status here.

Well I was talking about in America but I guess I needed to specify that for some reason.

Reviews and accolades are reviews and accolades anywhere. It doesn't matter if we're talking about Pitchfork or NME or whatever. Bubbles are for soft drinks and children's birthday parties.

why wouldn't it matter?
Why would it? Do you think reviews only hold sway if they're from your area? What's your criteria for this?
If this were a discussion of future Bonnaroo headliners, I could see your point - but it's not. We're talking about album reviews, and for that, it doesn't matter if a review comes from Japan or France or Brazil.

I was talking about how highly rated they are here. Like you mentioned that they're a headliner in Australia, but they're not even close to that here so I'm not sure why that would matter. It does matter where are review comes from because my whole point was that no on here even reviewed it.

Well, if no one on Inforoo reviewed it, then it must not be popular - #1 album ranking be damned!

I agree with most of this except Rufus > Bob Moses.
Chance's album is massively overrated. Though if you have the song Grown Ass Kid that was leaked the same week as the album its an awesome final track. New Avalanches and Anderson Paak's Malibu do very little for me and I've tried multiple times with both. Love the first half of Car Seat Headrest but then I kinda get bored. Flume's new one was really disappointing. Kaytranada has become one of my top 6 or so of the year. Regina Spektor's is her best album since like 2007, though the bar is kinda low there. Schoolboy Q, Danny Brown and Young Thug released the best rap albums of the year. Kanye is kinda in his own category for me because I'm a huge fan. Listened to Pablo 100 times but still recognize it as in the lesser half of his discography. Sturgill Simpson's new one is kinda underrated.

I asked my dog if he'd heard Rufus and he just kinda looked at me funny. By the way this happened in America. Rufus is properly rated. gorblata just needs to hang out with cooler people.

Personally, I like Rufus because I enjoy house. But I don't exactly fit the 18-25, CA demo.
Having seen them both multiple times throughout the year, Rufus > Bob Moses is totally accurate.
I think Bob Moses makes much better music and are better live. Did you see Bob Moses before they added the drummer because my friends saw them without the drummer at Coachella and were disappointed, but when they saw them with the drummer it made all the difference. Saw Rufus twice and I was just bored waiting for things to pick up.
There's a lot of listening I still have to do, but here's where I'm at
Top 10 So Far (no order):
Angel Olsen - My Woman Solange - A Seat at the Table Kaytranada - 99.9% Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool Leonard Cohen - You Want It Darker Frank Ocean - Blonde Anderson .Paak - Malibu Margo Price - Midwest Farmer's Daughter Beyoncé - Lemonade Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Skeleton Tree
Other Albums I've Loved:
ScHoolboy Q - Blank Face LP Lucy Dacus - No Burden Ray Lamontagne - Ouroboros NxWorries - Yes Lawd! Kendrick Lamar - untitled. unmastered. Lucius - Good Grief Glass Animals - How to Be a Human Being Bon Iver - 22, A Million Hiss Golden Messenger - Heart Like a Levee David Bowie - Blackstar

Yeah I saw them 4 times and always felt the same for the most part. One of those shows was at Coachella and they had the drummer. Just too many down moments for me which is funny because I felt Rufus was the exact opposite.

Should we put media lists in this thread? Thanks Rough Trade for being consistent and putting out a list weeks before it's time. Thanks for also being completely and utterly wrong. That said, there are a few winners on here that aren't being talked about.
