Aside from the music, is this fest more enjoyable than Music Midtown? I moved to Atlanta in August and my friend came to MM with me but we weren't really fans of it. It was hot and muggy and too crowded. Is the weather fine usually for this since it's in May? Trying to convince him to come down since neither of us were fans of MM, but I really dig this lineup.

It is significantly more fun that Music Midtown in every way imaginable.

It's def better than MM. One downside this year is that it appears they're getting rid of two of the stages and some of the area the park used last year. So, that could make shows a bit more crowded, but I can't really speak to this because I wasn't able to attend last year (which was the first year they held the event in COP) Also, the first 2 or 3 years of the fest it was a running joke that it always rained during the fest. But I don't think it has the last two years or at least it hasn't been very bad.
Your friend should def come down for Shaky if he isn't too far away. OR, I have found that it's really fun to do fests solo from time to time and city fest where you live is the perfect chance to try it out. Plus, But, we all like to meet up and go to shows together anyway. So, you would still have a crew of people to hang with too.

Yeah we're gonna have to see how that works out. I personally thought it was kind of cramped in centennial last year. I'm really not sure how well it's going to work. Hopefully in 2018 they return to the 2015 location.
It did rain during the first day at shaky beats last year but it wasn't bad. They had hard plastic tile/floor things near the fronts of the stages so it didn't really turn into a mudpit or anything (cough unlike MM 2013).

As soon as I heard they were moving to COP, I knew the grounds wouldn't be as good 2015. That year was really perfect, their best lineup, their best grounds, and their best after shows. The problem that I have heard is that Atlanta wants to build a bunch of stuff and turn the park they used in 2015 in to a better place for the community year round (basketball courts and the likes) and that is why Shaky had to move. The location of COP is really the only thing it has going for it, that and it is a nice park, just not the right kinda park for a fest of this size.
Oh, oh, also, I just wanted to say that I am going to get the tattoo tomorrow. So here's to hoping for many years of great music in the future at Shaky!
Yesssssss. I just came to post this. Really sucks it's all the way in Marietta though. $20-25 uber ride each way aside, still excited.
Where are you ubering from?
Unless you are right downtown right by some other midsize venues this really isn't too far. I recently had luck with uberpool from Buckhead to the Tabernacle for $6 and Decatur to Roswell which is a hike for $18 and didn't even have to stop to pick anyone else up.
The new venue should be about $10 from midtown or buckhead without pool as Cobb Energy Center has been for me in the past.
Let's hope they do it right, and i wonder how this will effect Cobb Energy getting Rock shows in the future as they are similar sizes and right next to one another.
This venue will be just a bit smaller (600 seats) than the fox so i guess that is more the comp as far as shows in town go, Tabernacle is 2,600 so is Cobb Energy, they are saying 4000 for this.

I'm in Poncey-Highland, so downtownish.
When I did quick price estimate earlier, uber pool was about ~$20 and uber x was about $23. Just checked it now though, now it's listed as $13 uber pool / $15 uber x. Guess there just was a price surge when I first checked.
..still wish they'd play at Terminal West or something instead (although I guess they're too big for that now) since livenation owns the new roxy theatre

I had no idea they were building something that size at the 'Battery'..so now we have The Buckhead Theatre, Variety Playhouse, The Tabernacle, Cobb Energy, The Roxy and The Fox. I was expecting something like Terminal West up there. Hopefully there will be a smaller venue as well.

Yea this will be one of the biggest non sporting indoor venues in town. Time will tell, but they want the Battery to be busy 12 months a year. I know many ITP people do not venture far OTP but if the battery is done half as well as The Avalon in Alpharetta then it's going to be a great place to spend time pre/post games and concerts at the Roxy etc. They have some awesome vendors lined up.
But I want to high five whoever works for them made the resale a Primus reference
it's also a Glass Animals song from their new album.
wish I checked here this morning for that Spotify code, was trying to use Radio105.7's presale code but they didn't have it up until like 12:30. Live Nation was having technical difficulties and their app wasn't working. so frustrating. LN can suck a fat one for that and those outrageous fees. oh well. I'm still going lol
Some combo of Father John Misty, Spoon, Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, Wavves or Courtney Barnett (not even sure if she's touring) would be amazing. In reality we'll probably get none of those though.

god please yes Wavves. I think FJM might be a lil too big to have not already been on the lineup. I'm holding out for White Reaper and Rainbow Kitten Surprise

Shaky did add the Replacements in 2014 and Ride was the #3 name for the day they played in 2015 so I don't think FJM is necessarily too big to be added. I wouldn't get my hopes up though.
