Easily his best album since Private Press, and I'm in the minority that loved both The Outsider and The Less You Know The Better. Always going to be a Shadow apologist, and I still say that his 07 late night set at Roo was the best late night set I saw in my five years of going to Roo.
I actually thought it was pretty great, to be honest.
Serious, non-trolling questions:
1) What did you like about it? 2) What is/are your favorite Kills album(s)/songs?
1. I feel like Alison developed a little more vocal dexterity and texture to her voice while feeling like Jamie's production was really impacted by his hand injury in a good way. Love the way the album starts - think the first 4 tracks are 4 of the best 5-6. 2. Probably Midnight Boom, and Cheap and Cheerful/Getting Down/Sour Cherry (of course) off that album.
I agree with your assessment that there aren't enough hooks, I think there is some filler here, and I can see why it'd be a letdown, but it was also what I kept coming back to this month. It probably wouldn't have been top 5 in April or May but I think I kinda needed a lighter month.
I love Mitski's new album, but I'd also like to rep this album from an artist that I haven't seen get much attention. I first heard of Steady Holiday when I happened to catch the stream of their set at Coachella and was entranced by the moody violin-heavy dream pop and I'm very pleased with how the album turned out.
Well since blood orange came out today, wouldn't deadline be a week from today?
It's the first Friday of the following month
But I felt like that was a purposeful deadline because albums come out on Fridays, so it allows a weeks time for fair evaluation of albums released at the end of a given month.

Yeah, I was hoping for an extension this month because of this album in particular.

HM: Mitski - Puberty 2 Christian Fennesz & Jim O’Rourke - It's Hard for Me to Say I'm Sorry Laura Mvula - The Dreaming Room Swans - The Glowing Man Herco S. - For Those Of You That Have Never Sumac - What One Becomes William Tyler - Modern Country Steve Gunn - Eyes On The Line Cat's Eyes - Treasure House
I look at the Blood Orange as a July release. The date is July 1st, even if he decides to release it digitally a few days early. It's not like it was a surprise release or something.
