In the comments to a Hangout Facebook post today, someone is selling two VIP tickets at $200 under cost. FYI. Also received a lot of video and photos of Jimmy Buffett impromptu walk on with Mac McAnally in Pascagoula. That would be fun. Headed to Nashville Boat Show tomorrow to trade boats. Need to see if anyone good is playing the bars and honky tonks.

So we should be getting some good news next week if they make announcements in the same timeline as last year. Anyone have any clue who playing? Mark Ortega you got anything to say? Anyone find anything on the web? All I know is walshy fire is most likely a Malibu addition artist and we may even have the head and the heart play two sets since hey still seem to be listed for the fest and the preparty on bandsintown site. Sorta like moontaxi did but we know how bandsintown can be...
I haven't kept up with this thread, but what are the chances that Chance the Rapper pre headlines into Frank Ocean? Do we know anything about who is playing which day?

No official word on daily lineups. Probably won't be for a month. I would think Chance will close down the Surf/Chevy/Number 2 Stage, say Saturday night. He could lead into Frank Ocean. Unless the artist's website/schedule has him there on a different day than Frank Ocean's, it's a possibility, IMO.

I hope the show is better than the last time I saw them at Bear Creek Bayou. It didn't suck, but on the heels of my Top 1 set of both 2014 and 2015, it didn't even make HM (which went to about Top 24 or 25 or so) from last year. I am absolutely NOT a fan of the new album except for maybe 2 songs. As they said when they released it, they wanted to do something simpler and accessible with a partial nod to the Talking Heads among others. It just doesn't work for me, though the songs performed live are superior to the album versions. And it's not like Gilded Age (next to last album) was a throwback to Spiritualize or the old days. But it was just better, more intricate and infinitely more complicated. Having said that, I'm sitting on the couch, passing up a chance to go see the Pelicans for $7.00 and ignoring all inauguration coverage. I actually don't have anything scheduled for a while and no tickets until Okeechobee Fest and then Buku the weekend after. Not sure how that's going to shake out, but we will be getting our krisplettuce on the Sunday before Mardi Gras with a big dub show - Skism, Trollphace and Trampa.
After Buku and the afterparties, life switches decidedly toward rock and jam for both weekends and the week between of Jazz Fest.

I won't listening very critically so unless they really suck, i'll be enjoying myself....they're 2 pop songs on the new album i think are really good(towards the end of the album i think)

Checked my records & saw Lotus at Hangout 13 pre-party. Think they were in the Boom Boom Tent. They were badass that night! Hope you have a great time. That was my 1st night of my 1st Hangout.
They're not going to suck. It's Lotus. It's just not going to be magical space hippie red rocks amphitheater show. Then again, since it's a concert and not a festival set, you might get a double set or some encores bringing in some good stuff. Can't wait to hear the write-up.
Edit - I just checked the last 5 shows (1 was Dominican Holidaze, 2 were the NYE run in Pittsburgh), 1 was Philly on 12/30 and one was NYC around Thanksgiving. There is no similarity between any of the sets, so there's a shot at Flower Sermon, Spiritualize, Umbilical Moonrise or other random shit they worked their asses off to get known for.

Haha. Yeah. Headshot season was the first song I listened to when he was coming in to open up for Excision back in 2015. I think he signed with Never Say Die records since.
Estaban and I are on opposite sides of the opinion poll regarding Eats the Light, but I get how the pop/vocal related direction is off putting after 10+ years of pushing jam boundaries. I def need to hear Spiritualize soon since I haven't heard it 4 years live.
2 nights of Lotus, I better fucking get it. Absolutely hate that they are playing at Emo's rather than Stubbs, anywhere else.
Current list of shows is 2 nights of STS9 next week, Angel Olsen in February, SXSW, Lotus 2 nights, Umph for a night (hopefully they don't recognize me from last year)

Ooh, thanks for the Tribe heads up. Hoping I'm in town that weekend and get to go. Haven't seen them since Alana took over bass.
Will let you know if I make it, a meet up would be nice.
I know I met you for a brief second in the Hot Chip SXSW line...but I was pretty brain dead then and don't remember it well...
2 nights at Moody. Pretty pumped n will be going w my brother.
Dude I think we both were too hungover to hold a convo at 7am. It was totally worth it. I'm excited to see what Samsung will bring this year but Im hearing no Fader Fort.
It will be a treat. I've seen them with Alana probably 11 or 12 times plus 6 or 7 streams, and every show was completely different including production work. I'm really hoping we get those back to back Tribe nights for Jazz Fest, but that's still crickets.
I just watched the tail end of Ole'Ole'...the Stones docu about their Latin American tour ending in Havana...there were Cubans at the show who had literally been thrown in jail for listening to the Stones and other "rock n roll" in their youth. I'll thank my lucky stars while I'm dancing once again tonight.
Saw where STS9 split with their lighting director who had been with them since 1999. Last night in Los Angeles was the new guy's first show. Extravagant lighting has always been a hallmark of an sts9 show, and I haven't seen any footage from last night's show to know if there is an appreciable difference.

Their great set at last year's Voodoo didn't have much lighting (IMO). My experience with the 3 Voodoos I've been to has been that the stage they played on has always been underlit. I remember an Alkaline Trio set where I could hardly see them. I sure loved that set, dark or not, it was badass!
