Suggested Listening These are my most listened to Phox songs, I think you all will like them quite a bit.
Physical Reaction/Live Show Their show isn't spectacular and they don't necessarily do anything that most other independent rock bands do, but son of a bitch is it thoroughly enjoyable. They really get into what they do, and it's sort of like watching a bunch of friends get together for a jam session. There's a lot of playful banter, smiling, but when they really get into a song, they all fucking rail on their respective instruments. When I saw them the first time, the dude on the keyboard went so crazy on it that it fell off it's stand and (still rocking a smile) played it vertically. They're really passionate about what they do, and it really comes through; when the audience is really responsive the music just gets better. As it should be.
Interesting Facts
When they graduated high school, they all moved away and then a few months later they all moved back to Wisconsin, got a house, and moved in with each other (all but one of them).
When I saw them back in 2013, I talked to a few of them after the show. They gave me a copy of Confetti in a hand-sewn little pouch and a copy of FRIENDSHIP in an envelope that was sealed and stamped with hot wax. I never opened it, it's too cool.
Personal Notes I'm not particularly good at this kind of thing. Do yourselves a favor and just listen to the music because it truly speaks for itself. The lyrics are interesting, their live show is fun as all hell, their smiles make you want to be happier, their sadness makes you want to experience more profound sadness, they're all excellent musicians, the lead singer is not only beautiful but has a wonderful voice and the obvious kinship-like friendliness among the band is so infectious it's like when you see a couple in love; it's almost gross but you can't stop being jealous at how happy they clearly are. The only difference here is, when you watch Phox play, you never want them to stop.
I saw these guys open for the Head and the Heart at the Ryman and they were really good. Her voice is beautiful
Yeah, after seeing them open for THATH (at the Calvin), it made very sad that I missed most of their set at Newport. Monica is fabulous. Maybe you and I can have a PHOX date?
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
