Members - Tyler Joseph - vocals, piano, ukulele, keytar Josh Dun - drums
Biography - Twenty One Pilots are an electronic/alternative duo from Columbus, Ohio, founded by lead singer Tyler Joseph, and former members Nick Thomas and Chris Salih. After the departure of Thomas and Salih, Joseph was joined by current drummer Josh Dun. The band's name originates from the play "All My Sons" by Arthur Miller, in which a man sells parts for airplanes during World War II, and finds that he's selling faulty equipment. The man decides to ignore the fact that his parts are ineffective, and as a result twenty-one pilots die, one of which was his own son. The band tries to incorporate these moral crossroads into their music, and state that the purpose of their writing is to make people think. Twenty One Pilots released their self-titled album in 2009, and became very popular in their home state. After Dun joined the band, Regional At Best was released in 2011, and Twenty One Pilots grabbed the attention of many labels with their energetic live shows, and ultimately signed with Fueled By Ramen. Shortly after, they began touring and opening for bands such as Neon Trees, Fall Out Boy, and Walk the Moon. After the release of Vessel in January of 2013, the band gained even more popularity, and were in high demand for festivals such as Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Hangout, and Firefly. The following year, the band embarked on their first ever headlining tour, which sold out in multiple cities across the country.

Personal Notes - I first saw Twenty One Pilots at a radio station music festival in Tampa back in 2012. They were the first band of the day at 11 AM, and they killed it. Since then I've seen them on three more occasions: Hangout 2013, Big Guava 2014, and House of Blues Orlando back in September. Not a single show dissapointed, and Tyler's showmanship and ability to get a crowd psyched out of their mind for a show is incredible. It's typical for Josh to have a full drum set set onto a platform that the crowd holds up while he drums on top of them, and during they're closing song Trees, they again have the crowd hold them up on platforms while they play bass drums above them. In my opinion it's still one of the coolest and most interactive things I've seen in live music. I've seen a lot of hate for them from some people, but if you check out their show, you'd have to try pretty hard not to have a good time. If you don't have a must-see act going on, stop by and give them a shot. You won't regret it. I for one will most definitely be there, dancing and jumping along to what will be without a doubt another awesome experience from them.
I had not listened to them prior to being added to this year's line up. I've enjoyed getting to know them, and "Holding On To You" has made it into my running mix.
I've seen them a few times, and they've always been fun shows. I first got into them at Roo '13, and having their set be the first one I attended all weekend surely set the tone for the next few days. I think they'll probably get another daytime tent slot, but I'll only be there if there isn't anything else going on since I've seen them so much.

I really hope they get scheduled to play LN Which just to see this board collectively lose their shit.
I think they'd make for a good Thursday night act, but seeing as they're on the seventh line there's no way in hell that happens. I imagine they'll be an afternoon slot on Which.

Wanna bet a beer that they don't play a tent?
Nah, they've gotten pretty big and I could easily see them playing Which.

They are from Columbus, that makes sense. Last summer they sold out the LC Pavilion for a weekend run in a matter of hours.
Not my favorite band in the world, but they are fun to photograph and do put on a good show.
One night sold out in 10 minutes the second took a little longer.
Also, they're jerks. They played at a bunch of house parties on campus when they were first starting out and Tyler had a big head even then. Forecastle was the first time I'd seen them since then and they do put on a pretty good show. But I don't think I can ever get into them because of that.

Funny enough, them being really nice when I met them is the reason I don't really talk about how terrible their music is.

I've never personally met them, but people I've talked to at shows and festivals in the past have told me the complete opposite about them. I'd like to think maybe he just let the early success get to his head at the start but eventually got a slice of the humble pie.

Perhaps he was knocked down a few pegs over the years then. Or maybe he was just a jerk the two times I met him, really barely met him- he was just there and kinda talking in the same group as me. I didn't have a one on one conversation with him or anything, just something I observed. He just seemed very standoffish and had a pretentious attitude about him. Didn't seem like someone I'd want to spend a lot of time with. Maybe I caught him on bad nights? Who knows. Glad to hear he's turned it around tho.

I would fucking dieeee laughing seeing people here blow a gasket over that. Personally, I love them and nothing will change my mind on that. I think they'll play Which this year, albeit, not a LN show.
I am from Ohio and my friends do love them. I think their ok but wish they would rap a bit less. I really like when they sing but don't go for the rap so much. We saw them last time they were there and it was a good show but I just can't see them being big enough for which. Maybe during the afternoon but their set in the tent last time seemed right. I could be wrong though.

Thoughts on the new album? Working my way through it this morning.
I'm in love. It leaked a few days ago and it's all I've listened to since then. I'm very sure that 95% of Inforoo will have nothing positive to say about it, but that's fine. I'll be on the rail for their show.

Really digging it. Some songs have a sorta reggae vibe but I'm okay with it bc it seems to work. Ride and Doubt are my favorites right now but there are quite a few that are really good.

Ride and The Judge are my current jams. Doubt is also up there. I honestly love them all, haha.
