I've owned an iphone 2 times now. And an android once. Currently have the iphone 6 and hate it/regret getting it. When i get my tax money, I'm thinking of buying a new phone out right in full since my iphone is on contract. It's so restrictive compared to my android. Also, you can't just "Acquire" music... you gotta work around it. Or like those poor people that don't there is a work around and have actually spent tons of money on itunes. The only thing I like is the better camera quality. Stalker texting is awful. Worst idea in history. I want my freedoms, THIS IS MURICA!
Also, I like the photo album setup on android better. I miss my back button. I hate you have to do a work around for different text message noises that aren't preloaded on your phone. I like to keep things minimalist so on the android, I had a few apps on my main screen and everything else I would hit the app button and access it that way. I don't like the drop boxes on iphone bc they are ugly. I want it hidden. I DONT OWN STOCKS AND IDGAF ABOUT NEEDING STOCK APPS ON MY IPHONE THAT I CANNOT DELETE. I like how I could add an SD card to my android but the iphone you cant.
I loved having a black texting screen on the android bc at night, half asleep, that's what's up. This white background on texting is bullshit. Yeah, technically, there are more apps on itunes than google play, buuuuuut I've never really noticed a difference in not being able to get the apps I needed before. On the android, didn't matter if my screen was locked or not, I could stuff in my top notification bar and it would sit there until checked. On my iphone, if my screen is unlocked and I'm not looking at it and receive a notification, it doesn't stay in the top bar until I look at it and often times don't know I have a text or snapchat or twitter update, etc. I've played with the notification settings so if this is fixable... please help.
If any of my iphone complaints are fixable.. please help lol
I spend all day working in IT. I hate not being able to customize my devices.
Android.
I will say I had to spend effing hours configuring a python dev environment on my macbook. I was like damn it if I'd been in windows this would have taken 20 minutes.
Was an iPhone user through the iPhone 4S because for a while there Android phones really weren't ready for primetime IMO. Graphically the user experience just wasn't smooth enough, too jerky, etc.
But I've owned many awesome Android phones since I made the switch. Note 2, Nexus 5, Sony Z Ultra GPE, and now the Moto G. After the 6.4" screen of the Sony I was ready to move back to a sane sized phone, and just recently picked up the Moto G, had it about two weeks. Its a great phone, especially considering it was approx $180 off contract. 720p screen but who gives a shit, I can barely tell a difference.
I haven't used an Apple phone in years, but what originally got me about Android was the cloud experience was so much better. I loved Google Docs in school, typed all my papers on it, could easily print out at school if I forgot it, and since its web based seemlessly synced across all my devices. I use Google Sheets all the time for budgeting and balancing the checkbook. Particularly helpful for doing show/trip budgets, I can detail all the expenses and what everyone owes and easily share with everyone going on the trip. Small thing but I love keeping my grocery list on Google Docs, my wife and I can update from our phones whenever we think of something, then when in the store we can just delete items off as we grab them. Apple may be way better with this kind of stuff now, like I said I haven't used an iPhone in a while.
I also like being able to use an SD card, but unfortunately not every Android phones offer this.
I could never use an Apple computer because I'm a PC gamer. I build my own machines and enjoy that experience. Windows 7 'till the wheels fall off. But I can certainly appreciate the appeal of Apple computers and Mac OSX.

I think there are some awesome Androids out there now. Probably better than the iPhone. (I used my back button to fix a misspell. Yes, we have one.) But I am used to the iPhone. It's compatible with all my other shit. And nerdbyrd there is a fix for most of the things you mentioned. I would help, but I'm on my phone. And you are going to get rid of it anyway.

I have never own an android but I really hate my iPhone. This is the third one that I have gotten and every time I say I am not getting another one and end up getting one anyway for one reason or another. The last reason was the AT&T guy talked about all the apps I would lose and that the play store didn't have some of the ones that I had...I have had some really shitty iPhones. Like the 5% ones that have all the issues, camera breaking, eating messages/contacts, volume button breaking, top lock button breaking (all on one phone), locking up, crashing, just being a piece of shit phone. I have never broken the screen though. I am saying once again that I will not purchase another iPhone when this one craps out. But I use Apple at work and at ever job I have ever had due to being a Graphic Designer or something. Because of all these reasons I didn't vote. But wanted my two cents in.

Android because of customizing. I don't have a problem with Apple though. I used to love my iPod touch but that broke so now I just have an iPod nano and not much need for the apple IOS.

What is "stalker texting"??
Read receipts turned on so they can see when you've read something. THEY CAN SEE WHEN YOU'RE TYPING. With an android, you don't have any of that. It's just too much imo

You can turn off the read receipts (which I did on day one of owning my phone). You can also send regular text messages instead of using imessage, if you don't want people seeing when you're typing for some reason.

I'm in the same camp as postjack. I would never buy a Mac or anything like that because I like building my own computers, and I mainly use Linux whenever I can. Only thing that sucks about Linux is that my favorite music player, Foobar, isn't compatible. I think Macs and iPhones are generally good for people that aren't really familiar with the more technical side of computing - they're hard to fuck up by accident.

read receipts are the absolute worst.
I'm always amazed to see someone still has them on when I text them for the first time. So weird.

right?! I'm actually amazed apple hasn't just gotten rid of it.
they're just torture devices. for instance, my friend was seeing this prick, and he was supposed to get together with her that night. he never had his read receipts on, but turned them on that evening. and continued not to respond to her texts. therefore, I conclude only terrible people keep their read receipts on.
