If you like the silliness of Analyze Phish there's also U Talkin' U2 To Me which is Scotty Auks and Adam Scott discussing U2... but somehow less structured than Analyze Phish.
i finished analyze phish (i enjoyed it a lot because of harris and scott, but still have no care about phish) and i'm a few episodes into u talkin' u2 to me. i put it off for so long because while i am unfamiliar with phish, i actively dislike u2. my fiance has been bugging me to listen and promised that i'd like it and so far, i'm enjoying it. i like their banter and how little they actually discuss the band. these two podcasts are filling a little bit of the void i felt after finishing all of the old farts and procreation episodes.
I did the same thing! Once someone told me they barely talk about U2 I was all in. The Staind Glass episode of Talkin' U2 is an absolute treasure.
Once again in slightly related news, did you see the new Hardee's/Carl's Jr. ad campaign? Drew Tarver (of the Earwolf family) plays Carl Jr. and gets yelled at by his dad, Carl Sr. I think it's safe to say Hardee's new marketing guy is a fan of Farts And Procreation.

i need to see that! i love drew tarver so much, my fiance made me a donny gary themed valentine's card. have you watched bajillion dollar properties? him and ryan gaul are a great team.

Whoa props to your fiancee. A Donny Gary card sounds like the sexiest, most romantic Valentine outside of actually having him roll his truck tire to your house and perform.
I've watched a few Bajillions. I liked it but let my Seeso subscription lapse. Loved Drew and Ryan Gual were definitely a highlight though. Are there other good shows on Seeso? I didn't delve too much into it so I felt like I was paying $5 a month to watch Bajillion.
I started this yesterday morning. As of now, I'm about 15 minutes into episode 5, but I got interrupted, so I'll have to finish that one on my way home.

i also really enjoyed take my wife, but there's only six episodes. i've heard good things about harmonquest as well. i cancelled my subscription, but plan to re-join when the new bajillion episodes come out because i like it so much.
In the middle of episode 2, A+. It's a Drive-By Truckers song come to life.
EDIT: great quote from episode 2 (no spoilers):
"Nobody wants to be a tattle tale... if you gunna live like white trash and shit you might as well not tell on nobody, cause if thats the life you tryin to live you can't be mad when... low down dirty shit like that happens when you hang out with low down dirty people."
that shit gave me chills this morning. you can call these people dumb, and maybe they are, but the self-awareness in that quote shows a certain kind of intelligence. maybe i'm biased because i live down here.

I don't think this has any spoilers
I think this podcast is chock full of amazing insight. I have an affinity towards John B, for a variety of reasons, and I become emotionally attached pretty easily to certain characters in movies, books, podcasts and the like.
They did such a great job editing the entire series. So many gems in the podcast, as far as quotes go, and I love the one you noted. One of my favorites was something like "He made an insurmountable task out of living life". Something we all do sometimes, something that I know I have done. A self-inflicted wound that detains us from reaching our optimal selves. Anyway. Terrific series.
Just listened to this Freakonomics episode at work. Really enjoyed this one too.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Just finished Shit Town. Best podcast series I've listened to. Really it's one of the best pieces of entertainment I've consumed. A true masterpiece. Goddamn.
I transcribed the final line at the end of John B's manifesto, because I want to be able to reference it in the future:
"I have lived on this blue orb now for about 17,600 days, and when I look around me, and see the leaden dispiritedness that envelops so many persons, both young and old, I know that if I die tonight, my life has been inestimably better than that of most of my compatriots. Additionally, my absence makes room, and leaves some resources, for others who deserve no less than I have enjoyed.
I would hope that all persons reading this can enjoy some of the aspects of life that I have enjoyed, as well as those aspects that I never will, and will take cognizance of the number of waking days he has remaining, and use them prudently.
To all that have given so much, much love and respect,
John B. McLemore"
I mean fuck me. What a strange, flawed, and beautiful human he was.

Finished it yesterday on the way home. I had to sit in my car for awhile afterwards. It truly touched me. I spent an entire evening crying after the second episode.

there was one quote from john b. that i wish i had thought to write down. i can't even remember which episode it was to go back and find it. he was talking government and the long string of name calling he had for the politicians made me laugh so hard.

yeah i think i'll have to relisten as i have time and transcribe a lot of quotes. i'd love to get my hands on his manifesto, i'm sure it will pop up somewhere. a little light googling didn't turn up anything yet.
speaking of quotes, i've lived in alabama my whole life, but i've never heard being gay described as "having a lil' sugar in his tank". rightly or wrongly i laughed out loud at that.
Can we talk about how irritating it is that Bonnaroo got a U Talkin' U2 To Me taping in the cinema tent this year? Gaaaahhhhhh I want to see that so bad.
Also, beebee, I finally read that Guardian piece on Harris. It was really heartbreaking and hard to read but also nice to hear such nice things about him. Pretty amazing how well-liked he was among all of Hollywood comedy. I had no idea he was supposed to be on Master of None. That actually makes perfect sense and now it's exceedingly clear that Eric Warheim is basically playing him on the show.

Eric Wareheim is still amazing on the show.
Oh I love the man. But I can absolutely hear Harris Wittels' deadpan delivery in everything Warheim says.
i still have a full hour left of the new comedy bang bang and the entire thing is absolutely ridiculous. chief is maybe my favorite new character, and lauren lapkus singing the theme song (and all of its variations) is killing me. edit: made it to the end and was so happy to hear one of my top favorites.
I also like some of Hannibal Burress' podcasts "The Handsome Rambler", he's had some pretty cool musical guests like Chance, Saba, Joey Purp, Phantogram, DRAM, and Killer Mike feature on episodes.

Handsome Rambler is great. You should listen to the Flying Lotus and Thundercat episode. They're all good friends and it's awesome to hear them just kind of hang out.

I've actually listened to that episode, completely forgot about it lol. Them talking about Thundercat's cat was great. Still need to listen to the Killer Mike episode though.
i've fallen behind on handsome rambler after he put out a ton of episodes at once, but i'm going to try and catch up on at least the coachella and killer mike episodes this week. drew tarver was on this week's episode of hollywood handbook and it was really great. the recent episode with paul f. tompkins was maybe the funniest one i've heard so far.

Yea the whole bit about their music/comedy coming on while having sex was hilarious. I haven't listened in a while but it's on the list.

So I just found out my cousin's mother-in-law(Is step-mother-in-law a word?) is from S-Town. I was at a birthday party this weekend and me and FireFace talked to her about it some.
She defended her hometown, like you'd expect. Said John B was considered a weirdo, also as you'd expect.
She did say that John B fixed one of her mother's clock back in the day. So that was interesting.
You can get a year of Stitcher Premium for 90% off with code BATOUR. So with the free trial month it works out to 13 months for $3.50.
I am not crazy about the app but it has been really fun to go back and hear old Comedy Bang Bang/Comedy Death Ray shows. I'm currently working through the entire history of Marissa Wompler and will probably do Bob Ducca after this.

any other must-listen cbb episodes? there are so many lists online, i don't know where to start. i can't remember if we ever talked about big grande's teacher's lounge, but i highly recommend that and it's on premium.
