I'm just curious... does anyone in the festival-going community actually like or listen to Drake? I know the regular listening community does, but they also listen to Taylor Swift and the like. I don't really see much functional difference between one pop act and the other when they don't offer much to the hipster/indie/festival community.
What I'm saying is... Eminem has a history and an edginess and an attitude and changed the game. Kanye is the same, creative behemoth with attitude who changed the game. Outkast were creative and interesting and nerd/hip/frat friendly without ODing in any direction. Drake seems (to me) to be just a pop star. Am I wrong? Tell me I'm wrong, and what I should listen to to shake me out of this thinking. Or don't, and I'll just cross the field and watch the other act.
There's plenty of Lolla attendees who are into Drake. He's definitely more than a disposable popstar, despite not having any "edge." He has great production, great R&B performances. 0-100 is dope, Take Care and Hold on We're Going Home are both great songs. I mean, I like all those rappers you named a lot more, but I'm getting tired of all the Drake as a punchline talk. He's perfectly good at what he does and he's legitimately influential and respected by his peers.
Thanks for the thoughtful response. I tried him out for a few songs back when he played Voodoo a couple of years ago and wasn't into it - but the same can be said for many bands I've never bothered to prepare for or listen to in advance.
My second-favorite hip-hop show ever was Lupe Fiasco at Lolla back in '08 or whatever, and he didn't have edge, just a great stage show and energy and good songs. I enjoyed him more than Eminem either time I've seen him. Of course Lupe is all about being edgy NOW, but that's a different story. I imagine I'd still opt for Florence + the Machine or Jack White or whatever opposes Drake, but it's nice to know his music has some merit past sales.

I think we might get kendrick Lamar subbing into kanye or drake
I think we can expect Kendrick in 2016. Could you imagine Kendrick, Imagine Dragons, and Coldplay in our top 3. That's what I'm talking about.
I really hope it's more like this though.
Radiohead/Kendrick Lamar/Gorillaz(Wouldn't complain about that at all) haha.
Call me a filthy casual, but I like Imagine Dragons. So Kendrick, Imagine Dragons, and Coldplay would be so so so so so so rad. (Everyone I feel like outta have some sort of musical respect for Kendrick and Coldplay)
With the additional news that has come out in the last few weeks I feel like this is a pretty realistic mock of what we're looking at. And I for one would love it...
METALLICA | DRAKE | MUSE SAM SMITH | FLORENCE & THE MACHINE | AXWELL ^ INGROSSO MODEST MOUSE | KASKADE | TAME IMAPALA | ALABAMA SHAKES BASSNECTAR | OF MONSTERS & MEN | HOT CHIP | MAJOR LAZER | ST. VINCENT | TV ON THE RADIO
I want Yeezus there more than anything but I just have a bad feeling about it. A top 3 of Metallica/Kanye/Muse would be amazing and I just refuse to get my hopes up for that so Drake it is.
This would be a good lineup, but not a great one. It would put me in that really unfortunate spot where I feel like it wouldn't be worth a weekend pass, but a one day pass just wouldn't be quite enough. I'm into Muse, Sam Smith, Florence, Tame Impala, Alabama Shakes, Of Monsters & Men, TV on the Radio. Besides Muse and Impala though, none of em are "must sees" for me. Kayne would be a hugeee selling point for me. Also, I feel like there's no way Bassnectar would be fourth rowed.

Ok no disrespect to the EDM heads here, but this whole "Swedish House Mafia broke up, so let's get each individual one in consecutive years" business should cease. Are there no other EDM headliners that C3 could book? I honestly feel like SHM breaking up has made them even more demanded/popular. Meanwhile Basement Jaxx, Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, Aphex Twin, and more just keep getting skipped over.
Couldn't disagree with this more. It's the 2 more prominent SHM members, and it's not like they're festival whoring this year. That's a huge get.

IMHO Coldplay hasn't released anything of musical value since their last Lollapalooza appearance. Like RHCP they seem to be putting concepts into the "Coldplay song generator" and just playing whatever pops out. I used to appreciate them, but that "A Sky Full of Stars" shit is oppressively generic. At some point you have to stop rewarding that type of mediocrity, right? And Imagine Dragons... ugh. Your top lineup is definitely a "would not want" for me. Bottom lineup is considerably different.
I mean, clown on Foo Fighters (and that sort of band making the headliner circles) all you like, but I'll take energy and enthusiam any day to close a festival over pop emotivity and TV commercial longevity. To each their own.

I don't think Jack and Florence would play against each other, being that they would be the only indie headliners, it might look more like: Metallica vs Florence, Jack White vs EDM, Rap vs Sam Smith
Am I the only one here who would be happy about this in 2015 at Lolla?
Metallica/Kanye West/Jack White/Kendrick Lamar/Sam Smith/Florence and the Machine
Friday
Samsung: Metallica
Bud Light: Kendrick Lamar
Saturday
Samsung: Jack White
Bud Light: Florence and the Machine
Sunday
Samsung: Kanye West
Bud Light: Sam Smith
That's a good lineup with something for everyone. I agree that Jack and Flo would probably not play opposite each other, though. And you're missing an EDM headliner on a main stage in favor of two pop headliners... and I kind of doubt that. The EDM headliner sells tickets. But who knows?

Any chance we don't get a main stage EDM act? It could be like 2013 with no EDM headliner. I mean we had two last year haha.

Yeah pretty sure there won't be a main stage EDM headliner this year. Obviously I could be wrong, but outside of Deadmau5 (who I don't think will be there) I don't know who they'd get. Avicii could possibly play again, I guess, but it's really unlikely because he's in Romania on the 31st and Denmark on the 7th. Bassnectar would be on Perry's again, he hasn't really gotten any bigger than the last time he played Lolla (which was only two years ago). Kaskade is possible still I suppose but I don't think he would get a main stage slot either.

Well whoever said Kanye was playing, it's not looking good if these are the top 3 acts. It's basically Coachella 2015 V 1.5, instead of AC/DC we get Metallica. The undercard could still be awesome though. 2/3 for headliners ain't bad right?
